Story
Gidget is a young very sweet but anxious girl. She seems to be blossoming every day but doesn't do well with barriers (probably from her past life with an owner) so does best when left out in the house. She hasn't been destructive in any of the homes she's been in and does well! She loves to snuggle and cuddle and doesn't require a lot of activity so doesn't need a yard. She does seem a little more anxious around men but opens up very quickly when she realizes she can trust them. Gidget was left tied up outside the shelter and has been on breakouts from us at the rescue and has just recently settled with her brand new permanent foster and was spayed at the end of January so soon we will look at possibly finding her her forever home. She can resource guard at times so older kids who understand rescues would be a possibility. Here are the most recent notes from her foster: " I believe she will do well in the majority of homes - The only piece that I feel like she needs in the home is a female presence that will be one of the primary caretakers as she does not open up to men as much/quickly. She does like men; she is just cautious and takes her time. I believe she was definitely abused by a male in her previous life by how timid she was in the beginning with being touched & being picked up (she hates being picked up unless its by someone she trusts then she is fine). I also am unsure how she is with other dogs - in the beginning I had her meet my friend's (male) dog and it did NOT go well. She was aggressive & growling and lunging, but she was also (unknown to our knowledge until her vet confirmed after surgery) fully in heat at that time!   Demeanor: - SO kind, very cuddly - Very easy to care for - very smart & a quick learner - Calm (even her excited side is pretty tame she doesn't jump much but she does get zoomies every once in awhile once she feels safe) - a quiet dog (does not bark) unless she sees other dogs outside - Timid with men upon initial meetings. Once she feels safe she will cuddle up with a male & be very sweet but can take some time. She does growl a little at them and can put their hands in her mouth as a boundary placement but she has NEVER bit or anything concerning. It can come off as potentially territorial. - unsure how she is with kids as she has never met any around me - likes to chew on bone toys - likes fetch   Walks: - Absolutely loves the outdoors, loves activity & walking. I take her on a walk everyday & she can hold up 2-3 mile walks happily. She should be placed in a moderately active home.  - Very leash reactive (lunges, barks a lot, gets very worked up) to other dogs she sees - men running, large trucks, & bicyclists. I started training her a bit to help with the reaction, i don't believe it comes from a place of aggression rather its a place of excitement & (maybe) protection? I don't think she was ever properly socialized on walks in her previous life. - she is a great walker on the lease with the harness in quieter areas   Other Dogs/Kids: - As i said above she is leash reactive to other dogs - she has met 2 of my neighbors dogs and it went decently well but still lots of barking & timid behavior. unsure how she would do in a home with multiple pets. - I have not seen her meet kids but I do not believe she would do well with young children grabbing her & not respecting boundaries. She should be placed in a home with teens or older   Household items: - she is fully potty trained (we have had very very minimal poop accidents mainly the first two days of her arrival) - she loves the couch & mainly sleeps there. She has slept in my bed multiple times as she has really felt safe with me recently. But the couch is her safe space and she needs to go to a home that honors pets on the furniture. - can leave her fully roaming the house alone & she does not get into anything she shouldn't she is very well behaved   Diet: - she is food motivated so treats are easy to train her with - she knows sit, laydown, etc - she LOVES all veggies (carrots, celery, cucumbers)   Other: - She loves car rides & does really well in the car -  I have taken her to outdoor public spaces ( like the patio of a restaurant) and she does very well UNLESS she sees another dog being walked across the street   Overall - she is one of the EASIEST dogs I have ever cared for. Really a simple gal that loves to cuddle with you on the couch & take a daily walk if possible. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the above or anything I may have missed about her!"  February 20, 2025, 1:03 pm
