Story
Name: Hezly Nickname: Hezzo. Hesleyan University. Hezzo Bezzo. Leelee. Breed: Havanese Sex: Male Age: ~ 1 year Weight: 8.5 lbs. Before OMD: OMDR took Hezly and 3 of his housemates into rescue when a local animal shelter impounded over 50 animals from a hoarding case. There were 23 matted, under-socialized dogs covered in urine and feces. Hezly, Suni, Simone, and Jordan have been with dedicated OMD foster families learning what it means to live in loving homes, “how to dog” and, of course, receiving their vet care. Energy level: Slow-mow in public, medium-high at home. Confidence level: Low in public, high in his home. Hezly is very unsure about the outside world – which isn’t surprising given his history and the likelihood he was never brought outside the first year of his life. His fear does not result in any aggression, but he will pancake, make himself small, and/or freeze. What we love most: His innocent nature and his little attempts to try and be brave. His bunny hops. How he melts into you when you pick him up. How incredibly sweet he is. What he loves most: Chewing. Bones. Hopping and running through the yard. Food. Playing with his foster (dog) brothers. Sleeping in bed with foster family. What he doesn’t love: Coming inside when it’s a nice day outside! What he knows: Not much tbh. He’s learning “how to dog” and be confident in the outside world. Working on: Confidence. Independence/being alone – He absolutely wants to be right with his people when they are home and has a hard time (barking and crying) when they leave. His foster family is working with him on this, but he will do best with a family who is not consistently gone for long periods of time. Kids: 8 years and up please! He has not shown any aggression to people, but fast-moving, loud kiddos will make him very nervous. Dogs: Yes! Currently fostered with Suni, and another male small dog and is very playful. He will often bark initially at a new dog, and he does need to chew his bones and toys separately from other dogs. Cats: Should be fine! He went nose-to-nose with a neighbor senior cat and had no reaction. House-trained: He came into rescue completely not house-trained (again, unsurprising given his history) and he is making solid progress! He is certainly not 100% but he is getting there and will thrive with a family who has patience and can stick with routine. Crate-trained: Yes. He is currently crated when home alone and he does protest, but settles down eventually (until he knows you’re back home and will then start his protests again!) Hezly is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org.

Name: Suni Nicknames: Sooner. Grandpa. Slowpoke. Suni cum laude. Breed: Havanese Sex: Male Age: ~ 1 year Weight: 11.5 lbs. Before OMD: OMDR took Suni and 3 of his housemates into rescue when a local animal shelter impounded over 50 animals from a hoarding case. There were 23 matted, under-socialized dogs covered in urine and feces. Hezly, Suni, Simone, and Jordan have been with dedicated OMD foster families learning what it means to live in loving homes, “how to dog” and, of course, receiving their vet care. Energy level: Medium-high. Confidence level: Medium. He is very confident in his foster home, but has moments of uncertainty in the outside world – which isn’t surprising given his history and the likelihood he was never brought outside the first year of his life. He is overall more confident than his foster brother, Hezly, but still has moments of timidness. What we love most: His gentle soul. How curious he is. His “don’t you stop petting me” pawing at you (which, we suppose, could be annoying to people who aren’t as obsessed with their dogs as we are…). When he rolls over and somersaults up against you. When you go to put on his harness and he stands up to help you. The noises he makes when he plays with other dogs. His Einstein-esque wispy eyebrows (yes they’ve been trimmed!) What he loves most: Playing with his foster brothers. Being right on top of foster mom. Chewing bones. Snooping around. What he doesn’t love: The car – he’s gotten car sick a few times. What he knows: Not much tbh. He’s learning “how to dog” and be even more confident in the outside world. Working on: Independence/being alone – he absolutely wants to be right with his people when they're home and has a hard time (barking) when they leave. His foster mom is working with him on this, but will he do best with a family who isn't consistently gone for long periods of time. Kids: 5+ please. He has not shown any aggression to people (and was drawn to the kiddo he did meet!) but very young chaotic, loud kiddos can make him nervous. Dogs: Yes! Currently fostered with Hezly and another small male dog and has proven to be very playful. He will often bark initially at new dogs, but warms up quickly. Cats: Should be fine! His approach to life is generally slow and gentle. House-trained: He came into rescue completely not housetrained (again, unsurprising given his history) and he is making solid progress! He is certainly not 100% but he is getting there and will thrive with a family who has patience and can stick with routine. Crate-trained: Yes. He is currently crated when home alone and does protest, but settles down eventually (until he knows you’re back home and will then start his protests again!) Suni is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. Story
Name: Simone Nicknames: Wild child. Oh, my sweet girl. Hey you, stop that! Breed: Havanese mix Sex: Female Age: ~1 year Weight: 8 lbs Before OMD: OMD Rescue took Simone and 3 of her housemates, into rescue when a local animal shelter impounded over 50 animals from a hoarding case. There were 23 dogs and they were under socialized, matted, and covered in urine and feces. Simone, Hezly, Suni and Jordan have been with dedicated OMD foster families learning what it means to live in loving homes, “how to dog” and, of course, receiving their vet care. Energy Level: High. You will often find her zooming around the yard, or racing from the couch, to the dog bed, to the couch, to the chair, to the big bed, to the couch (often while carrying a toy) to back outside for some more intense zoomies….or cuddled up with foster mom. Confidence Level: Medium. She is very confident in her foster home, but can be timid in the outside world – which isn’t surprising given her history and the likelihood she was never brought outside the first year of her life. She is definitely all “flight” vs “fight” when she is nervous Descriptors: Playful. Mischievous. Puppy-like. Shadow. Sweet. Snuggleable. What we love most: How she nuzzles up perfectly into your neck. Her exuberance for life. Her sweet, innocent nature. Her conversations during food prep. How she checks-in with you when she is unsure or something exciting is happening. What she loves most: Zooming though the yard. Supervising kitchen prep. Snuggling. Nylabones. Crinkle toys. Sleeping in bed with foster mom – and being right in foster mom’s face, ready to take on the day, as soon as she hears her stir. What she doesn’t love: The car – she’s gotten car sick a few times. What she knows: Not much tbh. She’s learning “how to dog” and be even more confident in the outside world. Plus, life is best when running zoomies or bouncing around excitedly, so who has time to listen. Working on: Basic commands. Housetraining. Being alone (wants to be know her person is always close by, and when home alone can be vocal). Not chewing the charger cords and the drawstrings of hoodies. Kids: Dog-savvy, older kids only please. She has not shown any aggression to people, but very young chaotic, loud kiddos would make her nervous. Dogs: Yes please! She would love a playmate. She is currently fostered in a pack of pups, most of them senior – when they do not want her in their space and are tired of her exuberance, they let her know and she moves on. Cats: Yes again! Currently lives with cats Housetraining: She came into rescue completely not housetrained (again, unsurprising given her history) and is trying her best, but will need a family dedicated to working with her Crate trained: Nope. Being confined in the crate stresses her out. Simone is spayed, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. She is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org.
