Story
We have a transport where we will be personally taking our dogs on to their new adopting families leaving at the end of March 2025 from Southern California where we are located to the East Coast. Surrounding states will be added to our route as needed 😊 We would love to add Gemma to our trip for the right home 💕 As always, for peace of mind for our adopting families we never ask for ANYTHING up front. Adoption fee/travel costs are always due when we arrive in person with Gemma in hand ❤️ Meet Gemma. She turned 1 on 1/07/2025. She is a havanese/poodle mix. She weighs right under 10 lbs. Yes, she is full grown and at a very healthy weight. She is spayed, current on vaccines, microchipped, and had a thorough exam with our vet who has cleared her to find a home all her own. Gemma came to us from a young family who could not afford her care in any form. They relayed to us that she had very sensitive ears and knew there was no way they could afford a vet visit, let alone any treatment if needed. They were barely making ends meet for themselves, and knew it was selfish to keep her any longer so they reached out to us to take her in and find her a good home after being cleared by our vet. We treated both ears with antibiotics upon arrival, as they were badly infected (not just sensitive to the touch,) and had a foul odor along with discharge coming out of her left ear. We knew she had to be sedated in order to know exactly what was going on deep down into her ear canal. While she was being spayed, our vet pulled out 6 foxtails that were imbedded deep into her left ear canal that had caused such a bad infection tbat it ruptured her left ear drum. (Her right ear thank GOD responded to the initial antibiotics we started and was cleared upon examination from our vet.) She is currently on additional ear medication for her left ear along with pain meds while it heals. Unfortunately there is no telling if she will ever hear out of that ear again due to the damage the rupture caused being left untreated so long before coming to us here. She still has hearing in her right ear, so we are beyond thankful for that 😊 (you'll just have to talk to her on her right side 🙃) She is the absolute sweetest soul you'll ever meet. Even with all the pain she was in coming to us, she was thankful to finally receive the care and attention she so desperately needed. She didn't let the neglect of her ear defeat her little spirit, especially the outpouring of love she gave in return from the many snuggles, tail wags, and kisses we received😊 She is an incredible little Angel of a dog, and one that your HEART needs to have! She is AMAZING with all dogs, and cats alike. She will be any animals friend, and love them with all that she is. She LOVES people and will melt into your chest from the moment she meets you 💓 She will be your ❤️ in its truest form, and fill it with an unimaginable amount of love and gratitude just to finally be a part of a human/family all her own again that she can trust to take care of her the way she deserves for the rest of her life 💕 She is not a barker, and is a very calm, loving, serene tempered sweetheart of a dog. She is gentle, kind hearted, loyal, and a true gem 💎 She has an incredible soul, and one that is so full of life and joy that it has to be shared with someone equally special to her heart, so if that's you then help us bring this special girls story in full circle and give her the happy ending she deserves ❤️❤️❤️❤️ She is crate trained, and currently sleeps in her crate at night very peacefully. She can easily transition to a bed in your room, or in bed with you if that's what you desire. She will never complain no matter the arrangement. She is that easy to please 😊 She is house trained, and goes outside every 3 hours or so when she needs to. She does enjoy company when out to potty, so we wait for her to finish as she is always happy to be able to come right back inside. Unless you are sitting with her, enjoying the outdoors. She have no problem hanging with you no matter what it is you are doing, as she is a readily available little helper 🙃 Leash training has been a very new experience for her as her prior owners never took her out on leash. She is young, and in time as her confidence grows so will her love for walks, and all the joy they bring. Leash training will need to be continued in her next home, but I assure you that it won't be a hard task!! She is wonderful on road trips and really enjoys lounging in her window level booster seat where she can take in the many views along the way ❤️ Spa days are always very welcoming too, so she is always happy when a short road trip leads to her favorite groomer 😊 Adoption fee is on our website at the bottom of her adoption listing at https://www.breadoflifek9refuge.org/post/gemma It covers her spay, vaccines, microchip/registration, double ear treatment/left ear rupture, medications/antibiotics administered at the vets and to go home to be continued, her exam with our vet, and the care involved in the overall time she has been with us, her grooming costs, and training we have been doing with her here ❤️ Her vet care was great in itself, and absorbed all of her adoption fee (and then some,) but having her well on the road to recovery ❤️‍🩹 is all that matters to us in the end 💕
