Story
Age:   approx 4 years old   Weight: 22  lbs My adoption fee is $625   which includes transportation charges to the Northeast. Hi! My name is Remi Jo. I am a super cute 4 year old Havenese mix. When I was rescued I had to get a few issues fixed (I had heart worms! )but I have been treated and I am doing great! I am a very affectionate guy. I love a good belly rub and to kiss your hands while we sit on the couch. My foster mom says that I sleep through the night on a dog bed and that I have not had a single potty accident. I have 2 giant foster brothers. I do very well with both of them. One is an old man who kind of ignores me, but he is nice. The other one is an enormous puppy who I play with a lot. I guess this means I could be a solo dog, or have a buddy. Something my future family should know is that I am kind of obsessed with cheese and generally I am a bit of a foodie. I get very excited about meal times. I was treated for heartworms but I am feeling great now. If I seem like your kind of dog, check out my bio and apply!   If you serious about adopting, the first step is to fill out an adoption application on our website:   https://www.smalldogrescuene.org/March 19, 2026, 3:53 pm

Story
Name: Hezly Nickname: Hezzo. Hesleyan University. Hezzo Bezzo. Leelee. Breed: Havanese Sex: Male Age: ~ 3 year Weight: 11.5 lbs. Before OMD: OMDR took Hezly and 3 of his housemates into rescue when a local animal shelter impounded over 50 animals from a hoarding case. There were 23 matted, under-socialized dogs covered in urine and feces. Hezly, Suni, Simone, and Jordan have been with dedicated OMD foster families learning what it means to live in loving homes, “how to dog” and, of course, receiving their vet care. Energy level: Slow-mow in public, medium-high at home. Confidence level: Low in public, high in his home. Hezly is very unsure about the outside world – which isn’t surprising given his history and the likelihood he was never brought outside the first year of his life. His fear does not result in any aggression, but he will pancake, make himself small, and/or freeze. What we love most: His innocent nature and his little attempts to try and be brave. His bunny hops. How he melts into you when you pick him up. How incredibly sweet he is. What he loves most: Chewing. Bones. Hopping and running through the yard. Food. Playing with his foster (dog) brothers. Sleeping in bed with foster family. What he doesn’t love: Coming inside when it’s a nice day outside! What he knows: Not much tbh. He’s learning “how to dog” and be confident in the outside world. Working on: Confidence. Independence/being alone – He absolutely wants to be right with his people when they are home and has a hard time (barking and crying) when they leave. His foster family is working with him on this, but he will do best with a family who is not consistently gone for long periods of time. Kids: 8 years and up please! He has not shown any aggression to people, but fast-moving, loud kiddos will make him very nervous. Dogs: Yes! Currently fostered with Suni, and another male small dog and is very playful. He will often bark initially at a new dog, and he does need to chew his bones and toys separately from other dogs. Cats: Should be fine! He went nose-to-nose with a neighbor senior cat and had no reaction. House-trained: He came into rescue completely not house-trained (again, unsurprising given his history) and he is making solid progress! He is certainly not 100% but he is getting there and will thrive with a family who has patience and can stick with routine. Crate-trained: Yes. He is currently crated when home alone and he does protest, but settles down eventually (until he knows you’re back home and will then start his protests again!) Hezly is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He is available for adoption to residents of CT and surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org.

Name: Suni Nicknames: Sooner. Grandpa. Slowpoke. Suni cum laude. Breed: Havanese Sex: Male Age: ~ 3 year Weight: 11.5 lbs. Before OMD: OMDR took Suni and 3 of his housemates into rescue when a local animal shelter impounded over 50 animals from a hoarding case. There were 23 matted, under-socialized dogs covered in urine and feces. Hezly, Suni, Simone, and Jordan have been with dedicated OMD foster families learning what it means to live in loving homes, “how to dog” and, of course, receiving their vet care. Energy level: Medium-high. Confidence level: Medium. He is very confident in his foster home, but has moments of uncertainty in the outside world – which isn’t surprising given his history and the likelihood he was never brought outside the first year of his life. He is overall more confident than his foster brother, Hezly, but still has moments of timidness. What we love most: His gentle soul. How curious he is. His “don’t you stop petting me” pawing at you (which, we suppose, could be annoying to people who aren’t as obsessed with their dogs as we are…). When he rolls over and somersaults up against you. When you go to put on his harness and he stands up to help you. The noises he makes when he plays with other dogs. His Einstein-esque wispy eyebrows (yes they’ve been trimmed!) What he loves most: Playing with his foster brothers. Being right on top of foster mom. Chewing bones. Snooping around. What he doesn’t love: The car – he’s gotten car sick a few times. What he knows: Not much tbh. He’s learning “how to dog” and be even more confident in the outside world. Working on: Independence/being alone – he absolutely wants to be right with his people when they're home and has a hard time (barking) when they leave. His foster mom is working with him on this, but will he do best with a family who isn't consistently gone for long periods of time. Kids: 5+ please. He has not shown any aggression to people (and was drawn to the kiddo he did meet!) but very young chaotic, loud kiddos can make him nervous. Dogs: Yes! Currently fostered with Hezly and another small male dog and has proven to be very playful. He will often bark initially at new dogs, but warms up quickly. Cats: Should be fine! His approach to life is generally slow and gentle. House-trained: He came into rescue completely not housetrained (again, unsurprising given his history) and he is making solid progress! He is certainly not 100% but he is getting there and will thrive with a family who has patience and can stick with routine. Crate-trained: Yes. He is currently crated when home alone and does protest, but settles down eventually (until he knows you’re back home and will then start his protests again!) Story
Meet Rupert, the little survivor with a big, blossoming heart. At 1 year old and 18 lbs., he is a small dog with the resilient spirit of someone who is already weathered a big journey. This Havanese mix sweetheart was rescued from a hoarding situation, where love and care were in short supply. Yet somehow, Rupert held onto his gentle nature, his curiosity, and his quiet hope that life could be better. Now safe, clean, and learning what comfort feels like, Rupert is blooming. He is discovering that soft beds are meant for snoozing, humans can be kind and treats magically appear when you make eye contact. He may still be cautious with new people and new spaces which is understandable, given his past but with a soft approach and giving him the time and space needed he will realize he is safe and his sweetness will melt your heart. He does well in the company of other dogs, children and adults. He will blossom into a family that will give him love and support as he learns to feel comfortable and trust will become second nature to him. He has not had the opportunity to meet a cat since coming into rescue. It is unknown if he would be willing to share space with cat at this time. His ideal home is one that understands that healing takes time and patience. He just needs someone who will celebrate the small victories: the first tail wag, the first nap on your lap, or the first time he trots over asking for affection. With gentle guidance and consistency, Rupert will absolutely shine. Guidance will be needed as he progresses with his crate, leash and house training, but he will surely be the victor! If you are looking for a tender, resilient companion who will reward your kindness tenfold, Rupert is ready to start his new chapter. He is done surviving and is now ready for thriving.* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. Story
Get ready for sweetness overload because Alfie is the next best thing to a sugary craving. Of course, his sweetness comes in the form of love and affection. Alfie comes into rescue with a past not suitable for a dog as he was rescued from a hoarding situation. Alfie has limited exposure to life on the outside as he has been on the inside looking out. Moving forward, Alfie is not looking back. Alfie is a one-year-old Havanese mix weighing around 15 pounds. He has made progress in adjusting to life with the help of some tender loving care. He will most likely need time to adjust with new people and new surroundings. He is making strides in learning what it is like to be well loved and cared for. He is good with other dogs and children, but it is not known if he has been around cats since he has had no exposure since coming into rescue. His house, crate and leash training are all underway. He will need a patience and consistency in training to help Alfie every step of the way. This little sweetheart deserves a family that will love and care for him for the rest of his days. His second chance is out there. Are you the family Alfie has been looking for?* When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine.
