Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $850 Sloppy Joe is a 10-12 month old Havanese-Lhasa who was surrendered to our organization when his owner could no longer care for him. He weighs 12.9 lbs and has a non-shedding coat that makes him an option for those with allergies. He will require regular grooming. SJ was a bit timid when he first arrived, but he's doing really well in his foster home!  Sloppy Joe is very happy to wake up when his people do, patiently looking forward to pets and snuggles. He then immediately enjoys some breakfast and water and loves to take a quick trip outside to do some business. He is happy to stay near his people all day while playing with his toys and getting pets whenever possible. He follows his people while they cook or clean and sits by them when they are working. He is a people person! Then in the evening he enjoys some time walking outside with his human. His favorite place to sleep is at the foot of the bed. Sloppy Joe is very friendly and well mannered with other dogs he meets out on a walk. He is very interested in cats though they may not be interested in him. If they run, he has a hard time not playing a game of chase with them. With careful on leash interactions, he gets along well with friendly cats. Shy cats may be a little more of a challenge. SJ didn't seem familiar with leash-walking when he first arrived, but now he loves it and trots along like a little gentleman, no pulling. He is very good at doing his business on puppy pads but has not learned to only go outside yet. He is currently getting treats whenever he goes potty outside to help him learn. He has adjusted well to his crate and no longer barks or cries inside. SJ is very eager to please. He tries to be obedient when he understands what is being asked of him. Anyone who has a lot of love and a little patience will really love having this cute little shadow follow them around all day and be so happy every time they enter a room. Sloppy Joe is looking for a patient home that will continue the great training that his foster is working on. He is only an option for those with prior dog experience. He could be an option for kids over the age of 6, provided they are gentle.January 29, 2025, 1:55 am

Story
This little gem is a medical special needs pup. Sasha is a very sweet and easy going 3 year old Bichon mix; she is about 11 pounds. She loves all people and dogs and enamors everyone she meets. She walks well on leash, sleeps through the night in her crate, and does relatively well with her alone time. She has an adorable way of getting one's attention and loves to play with other dogs. Unfortunately Sasha was most likely hit by a car at some point and her spine is broken in her lower back. She has full use of all her legs, but she's completely incontinent. Her foster assists her to empty her bladder 3-4 times per day (easy to do, and a potential adopter could be taught to do it). If she is assisted to empty her bladder, her diaper stays dry and her fur stays clean. Due to her condition, Sasha is prone to UTIs, but helping her to empty her bladder regularly decreases this potential. Luckily she doesn't show any signs of pain and has a full life expectancy. Sasha will need to live with someone who is home most of the time. She'd probably do best in a home with a yard, so she doesn't always have to be in a diaper, but she would also be an easy dog for an apartment dweller as she doesn't necessarily have to be walked first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Since Sasha is "non-shedding, she will need regular grooming. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Sasha is $200. If you are interested in adopting Sasha, please complete our online adoption application at  https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/   . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. We will consider applicants outside the 9-county San Francisco Bay Area for Sasha, as long as applicant is able to travel to Oakland for meet and greet, and pick up. Story
Macie is a sweet, silly girl who is about 5-8 years old and 15.5 pounds.  She loves her foster mom’s dogs and is sweet to her cat. She was closed down and ill when we pulled her from the shelter. Every day her personality is blooming a bit more. She is a real homebody and will walk around the block, but would rather stay home and hang out.  She is vaccinated, chipped and spayed and has had a recent dental. Macie is a special needs dog. She needs to take medication morning and evening for her heart murmur and arthritis. She also has ointment for dry eye and is probably blind in one eye. Macie was a stray so we don't know how she got to this state, whether an accident or genetics, but she takes pills in pill pockets easily and she is a wonderful companion. Her medications and  supplements cost about $100 per month and she is a dog that will need regular grooming. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Macie is $300. If you are interested in adopting Macie, please complete our online adoption application at https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/ .
