Story
Fred is a Havanese/Chihuahua mix who looks just like a mini Golden Retriever! He is 8 months old, cute as can be, and still learning all about the world that is now his to explore. Randy is a year old, and also a Havanese/Chihuahua mix. They spent the first part of their lives in a backyard with the other dogs in the home. New people can make them a little nervous and barky, but we know in a patient home they would thrive and be able to work through their shyness. These boys love to play, and learned how to walk on leash very quickly! They have a lot to learn, and in exchange a lot of love to give! These sweet boys will need a patient home, but we know they will flourish with time. Both Randy and Fred getting belly rubs, and will nuzzle your hand and give kisses when they wants pets. Under all the nervousness these boys have such a sweet demeanor. The shelter has tried to adopt them out separately, but have not been successful in getting either one to the point that they are comfortable enough to go without one another. They are bonded, and end up helping one another get comfortable and warm up to new people. We know taking in two shy dogs will be a lot of work, but they need to remain together, and we are happy to keep them safe and healthy until someone falls in love with them BOTH. If you have experience in adopting shy dogs, you know just how rewarding it is to see them blossom once they feel safe. Randy and Fred have so much love to give, and are sure to bring so much joy with their adorable smiles and personalities.December 9, 2024, 3:51 pm

Story
Howie is a gorgeous 3 yr old Havanese mix who weighs 16 pounds and was a stray at the Lancaster shelter.   Here's what his foster mom has to say:  (Make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom for super cute videos!) This is Howie. The sweetest, cuddliest, most loving boy I have ever met. From the moment he came into my life, he’s done nothing but melt my heart. Howie adores being close to his people—whether he’s sitting on your lap, napping on your lap, or cuddling in your lap, he’s happiest when he’s near you. He craves love and gives it back in the most magical way. Howie is a little velcro dog who thrives on affection. He loves to play, explore, and run around, but his absolute favorite place in the world is right next to you. He’s curious and loves watching “Dog TV” through the window, keeping an eye on the world and making sure everything is in order. What Makes Howie So Special Howie’s eyes tell you everything you need to know. He looks at you with so much love and gratitude, it’s as if he knows just how special it is to be in a kind, safe home. He is full of personality—gentle, affectionate, and eager to please. He’s smart and food motivated, making him a quick learner with just a little patience and encouragement. He’s also a little quirky in the best ways. He’s still figuring out potty training—he’ll go right after eating if you take him out, but he hasn’t quite mastered the concept of where he should go (he’s learning the difference between grass and concrete). He’s also working on leash manners, but his enthusiasm for walks and meeting new people is truly endearing. Howie does have some separation anxiety—he gets sad when his people leave, but he settles eventually. When I’ve checked on him with a camera, I’ve seen him wandering around or lying on the couch, waiting for me to come back. He’ll bark when someone new comes to the door, but all it takes is getting down to his level and giving him a little love, and he’ll be your best friend in no time. The Perfect Home for Howie Howie would thrive in a home with space to run, like a securely fenced yard where he can safely explore (he’s a bit of an escape artist and will find his way out if there’s an opening). If you live in an apartment, regular trips to a dog park would be just as wonderful—he loves to run and play with other dogs and people. He’s fantastic with other dogs in the house, though mealtimes may need a little supervision to avoid minor squabbles (he’s never aggressive, but he will stand his ground if challenged).  Howie will be best in an adult only home Howie’s Heartwarming Quirks One of Howie’s little quirks is his submissive urination when he’s really excited, but he’s already made huge progress! I’ve learned that letting him calm down before petting him helps, and when I come home, I let him outside right away to prevent accidents. It’s a small thing for a dog who brings so much joy and love into your life. Howie’s playful side is balanced by his tenderness. He loves belly rubs, running in the yard, and curling up with you at the end of the day. He’ll bark at other dogs on walks because he’s so excited to meet them, but it’s all eagerness—he just wants to be everyone’s friend. Why Howie Will Steal Your Heart I’ve fostered many dogs, but there’s something extraordinary about Howie. I’ve never felt so deeply loved by a dog as I do with him. He has this way of making you feel like the most important person in the world. He’s not just a good boy—he’s a special boy, and with a little patience and love, he’ll blossom into the perfect companion. If I didn’t already have three dogs, there’s no way I could let him go. Whoever adopts Howie will gain a loyal, loving, and endlessly sweet best friend. He’s not just looking for a home—he’s looking for a family to adore, and I promise, he’ll make you feel more loved than you ever thought possible.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 20, 2024, 1:09 am
