Story
Diego is a gentle giant. He is going to be a big boy. He was rescued in Texas with his 4 siblings when they were about 10 oz. Diego looks like a big monkey jumping around the house. He is usually laying down and wanting to chill and get attention. He also loves playing with his siblings. Diego is the one that we want to keep. But, we know thats not Rescue. Diego deserves an amazing home and we are willing to Drive/fly however long it takes to get him to his forever home. Disclaimer, he is not a true Havana brown, but if you ask me, he is even more I unique than that.

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Midnight's journey has been a challenging one; she was attacked by a dog, which left her with nerve damage and incontinence. Her tail had to be amputated, and she was sent to Black Cat Rescue to heal. Despite the hardships she has faced, Midnight has shown remarkable resilience and strength. With the care and support of her foster human, she has made incredible progress. Her incontinence is now manageable with the help of a diaper, and she has adapted to her new circumstances with grace and determination. Midnight is now ready for her next chapter, a loving home where she can receive the care and attention she deserves. She is a sweet and affectionate cat, with a playful spirit that shines bright. She even still likes dogs!! All she needs is a chance to show you the love and joy she has to offer. Please consider opening your heart and home to Midnight. She has so much love to give and is ready to become a cherished member of your family. Together, we can give Midnight the happy ending she deserves. Here's what her foster human has to say about Midnight: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Midnight is very outgoing and active.  She thinks the world is her oyster.  She doesn't hide, even when first entering a space (including the NBC studios). Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?   Midnight loves being petted.  She often stretches up and puts her legs on my knees when I'm sitting so I can rub her head and ears.     Also, if I rub her backside briskly, just above her tail, she will pee or poop if she has something  ready to go.  Recently, she's been volunteering to stand in the catbox for this, which is really helpful. . Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched?   Don't pet her backside above the tail if you don't want her to pee or poop.  Also, she is such an active cat that she sometimes won't stand still long enough to be petted, but we still get lots of pets in.   Does the cat come on your lap?     Does the cat like to be held? She wants to come up on my lap and she doesn't mind being held, but we are limited by the fact that she may pee or poop on me.  Sometimes I put a cloth on my lap so we can cuddle.  She also likes to climb up on my shoulders when I'm sitting in the kitchen.   Does the cat sleep in your bed?   I'll bet she would if I could let her. Does the cat seek your attention? Does the cat like to play? What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Midnight absolutely loves attention, either from people or other pets and is always up for playing.  She loves her pole toy and anything that she can bat around on the floor.  She also likes batting at Arvid the dog (who doesn't seem to mind). How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make?   Midnight isn't a big talker and doesn't cry to get through doors, etc. but she has a very cute little meow when she wants to tell me something. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain   Yes, Midnight likes both her cardboard scratcher and to get a long scratch in anytime that she can get to the flat-weave rugs (when she escapes into the livingroom). . Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain. Midnight likes the catbox and will go in and 'pretend' to poop, then scratch around in the litter.  She does occasionally get a poop in the box but as often as not her poops will end up elsewhere.  She doesn't seem to be able to push them out voluntarily without help.     That being said, as I mentioned before, she will poop and pee if I rub her tail end and she is starting to volunteer to do that.  I'm guessing that she is more comfortable with the poops out and appreciates the help.  This is a change from a few months ago when she often wouldn't stand still to have me rub her tail end and make her poop.     I've been making sure she has plenty of time to run around and get exercise on the theory that that will help her to strengthen her back end and perhaps help with the poop coordination.  (She does a lot of running and jumping around now that we've figured out how to poop-proof larger areas of the house. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Is the cat picky about food?   I've been feeding Midnight Royal Canin dental food (Dr. Leavey recommended that for another cat to keep weight in line).  I feed about 3/4 cups per day - sometimes I put out more and she seems to self-regulate her intake. What is the cat's favorite treat? Pretty much anything - I give her freeze-dried salmon or any dry cat treats that we have on hand.  She also likes the pate treats. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?   Midnight likes to play and will swat at me and Arvid for fun.     Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you?   Midnight rarely scratches but has clawed me when she is very anxious (at the cat event) or when I tried to get her into a diaper when she had already told me no.  That said, she doesn't scratch me or complain even when I have to put her back into her part of the house after an escape to the livingroom. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No, she hasn't nipped or bitten me. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?   Midnight is super friendly with anyone who comes to visit and was either friendly or tolerant with everybody on her outings, except when she'd really had enough at the Boston cat event.  She loves playing with my dog and me and tried to befriend Hugo, my friend's cat who came to stay with us (in his own segregated part of the house)   I think Midnight would love living in a home with other pets, especially if she doesn't recover the ability to reliably use the catbox and so can't sit on laps or sleep with people. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?   As mentioned, Midnight is about the most outgoing, social cat I've ever met.  Also, she is really soft and super plush which isn't really a trait, but makes her very pretty and really enjoyable to pet. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?   If Midnight could use the catbox reliably, she would be just about perfect.  Only people who don't want a cat who is super friendly and interactive should steer away.   Just a guess, but she might be quite dominant in a multi-cat household - she is not at all shy around other cats. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?   Her challenge is just the obvious one.  We have to cover everything with cloths and pads to manage her pee/poop.     I still hope that she will recover her catbox skills, but she might not.  Things have definitely gotten easier over time, but that is partly because I'm getting better at Midnight-proofing the areas she has access to.  That said, she is offering a glimmer of hope so, fingers crossed! Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston All about Layla from her foster home: Please note - Layla does not get along with other cats. Also, due to her personality we do not recommend a home with small children. How would you describe the cat's general personality? Layla is a very sweet 4 year old girl who has clear boundaries and will let you know about them.  Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, and she will let you know by chasing down your hands. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet?  She likes getting pet on the chin and cheeks, and will tolerate the back. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She will flop onto her back, but she does not seem to enjoy getting belly rubs. Does the cat come on your lap? Yes! She loves a lap. Does the cat like to be held? I have only tried to pick her up once, and she protested with a meow, so I think the answer is no. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, but on her own terms. Does the cat like to play? She does like a catnip banana, but it's been difficult to get her interested in more interactive toys.  What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She likes rolling around on catnip and gnawing on her banana. She also has a puzzle feeder to prevent her from eating too quickly. How vocal is the cat? She's pretty quiet overall. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She likes to make these soft meows when she wants attention or when she wants to protest something that you've done.  Does the cat scratch a scratcher? She does not seem to be interested in the cardboard scratchers I have around the house. If no, please explain. She seems to be much more interested in the rug instead. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No.  Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? She has nipped once while sitting on my lap and I was reaching over her for my keyboard. It might have been some overstimulation from petting earlier. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? I have not introduced her to new people yet, but she seemed remarkably brave and confident when she ended up in foster. She started adventuring almost immediately, and then the next day, she was demanding pets. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?   She will let out little, protesting meows when you move from a position she does not approve of. She also loves flopping onto her side and rolling around on her back. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? She is very affectionate and loves to cuddle, but she's also happy to wander off and do her own thing. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? She will hiss when she's uncomfortable and unsure, which can be surprising to hear after dealing with other cats. It will be important to pay attention to her boundaries and to listen to what she's telling you.  To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  November 6, 2024, 4:50 pm

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Phantom is a sweet 1 year old black cat who would do best with another cat. Here's what her foster human has to say about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? She's very sweet and a huge goofball.  Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes!! Sometimes she'll start eating when getting pet and stop eating if you stop petting.  If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She loves having her head pet! In fact she'll just take charge and move her head where she wants pet. She even rolls onto her back when she wants her chin rubbed.  Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She takes a while to warm up to new people, but once she does everywhere except her tummy is fair game. (She hasn't gone through a nail trim yet but is ok with her paws getting touched). Does the cat come on your lap? Not yet but she does like to use hands as pillows Does the cat like to be held? Haven't tried yet Does the cat sleep in your bed? No, but she might once she starts getting more confident.  Does the cat seek your attention? Once she gets comfortable, yes. Prior to that she needs a little coaxing, but she does love attention. She will meow at you for food, but also just wants to say hi when you're in a different room. Does the cat like to play? Yes, she'll play by herself and then once she trusts you she'll play with you. She has a lot of energy so playtime is a necessity. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She seems to like wand toys and similar toys where she knows where your hands are in relation to it. How vocal is the cat? She's become increasingly vocal in her foster home and will make a great conversation partner for you.  What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She makes adorable chirping/trilling sounds! And she sounds like a lawnmower when she's purring Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Maybe If no, please explain. She'll use the designated scratching areas, but she likes to use her claws to crawl up furniture too so there is a good likelihood furniture will fall victim to her desire to climb.  Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, shes been very good about it! What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? She gets about 9 oz of wet food and as much dry food as she wants every day. She has a big appetite for a small cat. Is the cat picky about food? Not really, but she absolutely adores wet food What is the cat's favorite treat? Chewy meat treats Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? She gets overstimulated during play sometimes. In these cases she does scratch (no breaking skin). Once you withdraw your hand she understands that she can't do that, but she is not always inclined to get redirected to play with toys. She needs someone willing to teach her.  Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Once she nibbled on my hand when I was petting her around the time she usually gets fed. I just brought the wet food bowl closer and she quickly redirected. Another time when she was overstimulated by petting she started biting my hand and had to get redirected to a toy. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She is quite fearful around new people which is to be expected for a shy cat. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? She reminds me of Toothless, the animated dragon! Playful, sweet, and ready to find her loyal friend.  In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? She's a sweet like goofball who's looking for someone to help bring her out of her shell. Her ideal human is someone who likes to laugh at her antics, doesn't mind her redecorating with her claws, and gives her lots of attention while also respecting that sometimes she just wants some space. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? She is used to humans and likes being around them, but she is a shy, young cat who needs someone patient and willing to redirect destructive behaviors. At first, just sitting with her, respecting her boundaries, and giving her as much wet food as she wants.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  November 14, 2024, 9:10 am
