Story
Lightning, the young Beagle, lives up to his name with his quick learning, quiet energy, and a heart full of gratitude. Once a barn dog, he now thrives in a cozy home where he can finally rest his paws indoors. Though his brother Thunder may be the louder of the two, Lightning is a quiet soul who speaks with soft, whisper-like barks when he wants attention. He adapted to house life in a flash, quickly learning house training and commands with ease. His crate is a safe haven, but the door stays open—proof of his trustworthiness. Chicken jerky is his weakness, and though he loves to sniff and explore, he rarely begs for food (except for the occasional counter-surfing adventure). Outside, Lightning comes alive, darting across the yard like a true force of nature. He loves to sniff everything in sight, but loud noises still make him uneasy. With other dogs, he prefers slow, patient introductions, and while he hasn’t met many cats or kids, his adaptable nature shines through in all he does. Lightning’s foster family marvels at his desire to please: “He understands everything we say and works hard to make us happy, even though we’re not strict.” Gentle, smart, and full of quiet charm, Lightning is ready to brighten someone’s life. Story
Meet Thunder, the most ironically named Beagle you’ll ever meet! At almost 2 years old, this sweet boy is as quiet as a mouse—he never barks, but don’t let that fool you; his nose does plenty of talking. Thunder is still mastering the art of house training, but he’s making great progress. He’s a pro on the leash with his harness, though walks tend to be more of a sniffari—he stops often to investigate every interesting scent and, of course, to roll around because rolling is just too much fun! Like a true Beagle, Thunder has a strong chase instinct, so squirrels better watch out! When it comes to other animals, babies, and kids, he’s still figuring things out, so a slow introduction is best. Speaking of taking things slow, Thunder needs a little extra time to feel comfortable in new situations, but with patience (and lots of treats—he’s very food-motivated), he’ll warm up and show you his affectionate side. Thunder’s favorite things? Belly rubs, ear scratches, and following his nose to new adventures. He’s looking for a patient, loving home that will let him sniff, explore, and grow into his best Beagle self. Could that be you?Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Siren is a calm, gentle, quiet girl who joined us from rural Kentucky. It appeared she had had very little human interaction when joining BAARK last year, but with time and patience, she has come out of her shell and has become a little more confident….but does have a ways to go. Siren is definitely a Mix Breed, possibly a Beagle-Heeler, with other breeds sprinkled in! She’s an estimated 32 lbs. born in January of 2021. This sweet girl enjoys the company of other dogs in her foster home, but prefers calm dogs. She can become startled by loud noises and quick movement but as her confident continues to grow, such things will likely not bother her. Siren is most likely to thrive in a quieter household consisting of adults. But older children, respectful of animals, would be good for Siren as well. She’d really enjoy the companionship of a calm, possibly older dog too. A secure fenced yard is also a plus. Siren is up to date on her vaccinations, heartworm negative and on year-round heartworm prevention, spayed and microchipped. She is believed to be housebroken as well. If you are interested in adding Siren to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895. Note that BAARK is located in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, and adopts local to our area.
