Story
Juniper is a beautiful adult female dog (possibly a Rottweiler mix) who was placed in one of our outside kennels (HSOV in Marietta Ohio) during the overnight- or early morning hours on April 29, 2024. She was accompanied by her female companion Hexa (possibly a Boxer/Plott Hound mix) who was placed in an adjacent kennel. Neither of the girls were wearing a collar. Juniper has a black short smooth coat with brown/auburn markings on her chest/legs, a long tail, and a pretty face with brown/brindle shading, dark brown eyes, a black button nose on her large muzzle, and long floppy ears. She appears to be the older/larger pair of the duo. Juniper weighs 54.2 lbs. Both of the girls were understandably nervous/scared being penned up in an unfamiliar place, and they weren't quite ready to put on their happy face and pose for glamour pictures in our outdoor photo area .. So the 'paparazzi' patiently spent time with them and listened to them verbalizing their apprehension in the only way they knew how (by barking and putting up a brave front). After 10-15 minutes or so of quiet conversation on the paparazzi's side of the kennel gate (whispering sweet nothings through the fencing and telling them what good girls they were and that they were in good hands), they eventually began to wag their tails and decided that lady posed no threat to them .. And they relaxed enough in order to take some preliminary photos. We look forward to taking more flattering pictures when the girls realize that they are indeed with their new best friends (our HSOV kennel techs and staff) who love them unconditionally. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, these girls will be held for three days so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership.

Story
Bosco is a good-looking 4-year old male Rottweiler mix who was brought to the HSOV on June 18, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found him on State Route 339 in the Vincent Ohio area. Bosco was accompanied by a young female dog (Mazie). Neither Bosco nor Mazie were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Bosco has a black-and-brown short smooth coat, a long tail, and a handsome face with brown eyebrows, brown shading on his muzzle, and large floppy ears. Bosco has a cherry eye condition in his right eye, and he appears to have a flea allergy. Bosco weighs 55 lbs. These photos were taken on June 21, 2024 when Bosco was in a covered/shaded outdoor kennel and our photographer saw an opportunity to snap some preliminary pictures to post. The temperatures that day were around 95 degrees and much too hot/humid for taking pictures in our usual location which was in direct sunshine. We realize these photos aren't very flattering (with apologies to Bosco and a promise to take better ones when there is a cool down in the temperatures). In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bosco was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Bosco has not been reclaimed as of June 22nd.

Story
Harley (previously posted under the name Juliet) is a beautiful 2-year old female Rottweiler who was picked up on Newbury Road in the Little Hocking Ohio area on July 26, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff and brought to the safety of our shelter. Harley was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. Harley has a sleek black coat with brown markings on her chest/legs, a docked tail, and a lovely Rottweiler face with dark brown eyes, brown eyebrows, brown shading on her chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Thanks to HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Jared Nash for accompanying Harley for outdoor photos on the afternoon of July 26th. Harley was understandably a bit apprehensive being in an unfamiliar place with so many other dogs nearby (and people that she did not recognize), but she seemed to be at ease with Jared by her side and trusted him completely. Harley had not yet stepped onto our scales for a weigh-in when these photos were taken. She is a fairly big girl who likely weighs 65 lbs or so. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Harley (fka Juliet) was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. We were sure that someone must have been missing this magnificent Rottie girl. Sadly, Harley's tearful owner (who dearly loved Harley) has contacted our shelter and is unable to reclaim her but gave us information about Harley .. Harley was born in September 2022. She was given rabies vaccine in February 2024 and was treated for Lyme disease in May 2023. Harley was accustomed to eating Purina One Pro Plan Chicken-and-Rice formula. She was a little selective about which men she chose to accept in her life. Her owner hopes that we can find Harley a great home with someone who will love her as much as her previous family did. Update: Harley went home with a foster family on August 3, 2024 who plans to adopt her after she is spayed. Harley was spayed on December 3, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. She was adopted by her foster family on December 4th 2024. Unfortunately Harley was returned by her new family on December 16th 2024 since she wasn't doing well in their home after she was spayed. Harley will be seeing a veterinarian to determine if she needs medical attention/medications.
