My name is Bailey and I am a tricolor pit bull/rottweiler. I am a neutered male and I am 1 year and 1 month old. I was transferred here from another shelter/rescue through the Ames Animal Shelter`s Third Chance program on 12/11/2024. I am used to staying inside during the day and inside during the night. I am still learning how to be potty trained. I am a high energy dog and I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience. The shelter staff is not sure if I am used to being crated during the day. The shelter staff are still learning how I walk on a leash. I would do well with simple obedience training to help us bond and for us to learn how to communicate with each other. I do not have a history of trying to escape the home or yard, but the shelter staff always recommends owners be mindful that I do not accidentally get out a door or escape the yard. I would like a standard height fence to help keep me inside the yard. I can be good with men, women, and children. I can be good with other dogs and I cannot live with cats.All dogs are tested for heartworms and given flea preventatives. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine dewormings. Dogs are vaccinated against distemper, rabies, and bordetella, spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption.

Just like the classic debate- Left Twix versus Right Twix... both sides together ARE THE BEST!!! I am the same way, I am sweet on one side and salty on the other- together we are perfect! I have a tale to tell, however, none of it matters anymore because I am here right now to tell you- the best is yet to come! I am a big love bug, and although I can be nervous at first- I settle in quickly to be just a big couch potato! I am good with other dogs and would love to have a friend for life in my forever home. I am good with calm older dogs, not much for puppy energy all.the.time... :) I love kids, and would be great with school aged/teenagers (and not many others LIKE teenagers so I can be their buddy :) and would be good in a calmer/quieter home. I want so much to please my family and will look to you for love and attention. I also need a strong leadership family- I have tried to take over control in my first adoptive home and it was not appreciated. SO, you need to be my boss, it's not hard- just let me know you are someone I can trust to keep me safe and take EXCELLENT care of me- with love and more love and I will LET you be in control. Simple as that :) I am a big boy, about 75#, with GORGEOUS colors and markings. I will melt your heart when you look into my amber eyes and into my sweet soul. So don't hesitate, ADOPT ME!! Hello there! I'm Cadbury, your future best friend. Unfortunately this isn't my first rodeo at the shelter. I was found wandering around town and the nice people at the shelter weren't able to contact my owner. I'm the sweetest guy you'll ever meet, and I love making new friends. My goofiness is contagious, and I promise to keep you laughing with my silly antics. I've got a knack for making friends, whether they're dogs or cats, and I've never met a treat I didn't like. Be my second chance and adopt me! Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets!
