Story
Dexter is a 3-year-old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix who is ready to find a family to call his own. This gentle giant was surrendered due to a change in his familys living situation & becoming protective over his family. Now, he is searching for a kind-hearted home where he can feel safe, loved, and cherished.Though Dexter is a bit shy when meeting new people, once he trusts you, he will shower you with affection, offering all the hugs and cuddles a dog can give! At heart, he is a big, soft teddy bear who just wants to be close to his loved ones. Because he is a little timid, Dexter would thrive in a calm, peaceful environment where he can take his time adjusting and building confidence at his own pace. He previously lived with a cat & another dog, but we would definitely hold meet & greets with any other current dogs. He would be extremely happy as your one and only pet. He prefers a home without small children but would do ok with older dog-savvy kids Breed experience not required but highly preferred. He can get very protective of his family so his ideal home would be a place without frequent visitors and a lot of space to run. We will cover the cost of a few training sessions with Dexter after adoption. On walks, Dexter loves to sniff everything he can, so he is a curious companion. He could use a bit of a refresher when it comes to leash manners, as he tends to get a little excited about all the wonderful scents. With some gentle training, hell be walking like a pro in no time!Dexter is crate-trained and house-trained, so he is well-behaved indoors. He enjoys lounging around but is always up for a quiet stroll or a bit of outdoor playtime if the mood strikes. He is the perfect companion for someone who appreciates a calm, affectionate dog with a loving nature. If you are looking for a loyal friend who will offer endless love and devotion, Dexter could be the one for you. Come meet this sweet boy and see how he fits right into your family he is waiting for his second chance at happiness!
