Story
Calling all experienced Pyrenees lovers!! Gus McFloof may have a fluffy face and name but he’s a force to be reckoned with. He’s 140#, perfect with dogs, cats, birds/ any animal! BUT he steals. That’s right; he steals things off the kitchen counter then guards them with all 140lbs. It sounds funny… we laugh too… but trust us you won’t be laughing if it happens to you. SO, he needs a home willing to have strict rules and boundaries. He cannot be allowed in the kitchen; seriously. Two trainers have not been able to replicate the behavior to work on it; it’s like he knows… He’s otherwise fully trained. We will be strictly requiring Pyrenees breed experience and a fenced yard for Gus and he’s #notallowedinthekitchen All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter.   October 30, 2024, 8:28 pm

Story
Meet Henry! This senior fellow came to us looking like he was going to keel over & die at any second. He was thin, barely had hair on his back & tail & just generally looked awful. We threw around the words “hospice foster” but imagine our surprise when “ Old Henry” started eating well, gained weight, his hair grew back & he perked up!! We suspect that Henry lived outside most of his life but now that he’s inside he is loving it!!  Henry loves the couch! He loves food & treats & he loves to sneak over to the counter & see what might be up there!! Luckily he doesn’t steal but he’s been known to do some major sniffing!  Henry is around 10 years old! He barely barks, likes other dogs & cats & loves a nice soft bed.  He loves to patrol the yard & will even do the occasional jog….. if it’s time to eat!  Henry does seem to have some hearing issues… for example, like when you call him to come in & he doesn’t want to…. He can’t hear you. When you ask him if he wants a cookie the hearing comes right back!!  Do you need a diva on your life??? Story
Joey and Katie came to the Sanctuary together and have always been together. Joey takes all of his cues from her. He is a timid boy which takes some time to get to know. Once he loves you he will follow you anywhere, as long as Katie does too. After working with him a couple of months we are able to walk him with the pack of dogs at the Sanctuary but he still needs vigilant supervision with them. He is good with Katie but doesn't seem to know how to interact with the others and can become agitated with them. Joey and Katie seem to have had little socialization outside of their own yard. A positive reinforcement trainer would be great to have on hand when adopting them. They do need adopted as a set currently. We were hoping to work on Joeys socialization skills enough that they could be separated but it hasn't worked out as so. Katie would do fine but we fear Joey would fall apart. They are both large teddy bear dogs and would do well in a large fenced area. They like to come in but as long as they don't get too hot or wet they like hanging out outside. If your interested in adopting Joey and Katie it will take multiple visits before they are comfortable with you enough to go home. To adopt them please go to www.libertyacresunited.com and submit your application. Their adoption fee together is $150. For more information you can call or text 765-969-4782 For more information on the animals available for adoption and more information on the Sanctuary please visit us a www.libertyacresunited.com and don't forget to follow us on Facebook

Story
Ruby has lived with us since we adopted her at 8 weeks old. She is sweet, semi-energetic, and unaware of her size. She loves people but can be shy at times. She has been good with other dogs while boarded at Dogtown but has been food aggressive and needs to be fed separately. Ruby is not a good fit for our home after adding another new baby to the mix. She is gentle with the children but is so large that she could easily hurt someone when she runs to the window when someone walks by the house. She loves to tear up children’s toys and claim them as her own. She is huge and can easily reach the kitchen sink or anything that’s left out on a counter and will happily help herself to a free snack. Ruby would be an excellent guard dog or livestock guardian for larger animals. Her bark is loud. She would do best in a home with lots of room to run around and no small children. She deserves more attention and a better life than we are able to give her. Prior Pyrenees owner would be best.

Story
Zumi is a big boy with big feelings. Once you get to know Zumi and he gets to know you, you will find him to be a hilarious goofball. He loves to eat sticks and play fetch with them (retrieval rate is maybe a 35% but hey, he's trying!) He is trained to use both a Halti head collar and a muzzle. He is actually really good at training in general! He has his favorite people here and he becomes a complete puppy when he sees them. Zumi is also great with other dogs.Zumi has issues with kids, and with strangers. It takes him a while to warm up to people, he was bred to protect and be a guard dog and on top of it was not socialized when young. He will need a home that understands this. A person who sees how perfectly loveable this guy is and has a quiet household or who is willing and able to manage his anxieties and guarding instincts. The payoff is huge, as you will have a giant protector who will make you laugh every single day.
