Story
Introducing Scrappy Do, a mix of Great Pyrenees, Lab and Australian Shepherd (b. June 2022).  Srappy Do is an extremely smart boy and he loves to play.  He knows some commands and knows how to fetch.  He gets along with dogs, cats and kids of all ages.  He loves to be active and he loves to run!  Scrappy Do loves to run so much, that he has been known to run out the front door if you take your eyes off of him.  Since he is known to be a bit of an escape artist, he will need a secure fenced yard.  (Even better - a farm or a lot of land because he always returns after a good run!)  He is crate trained, but lately he hasn't been too fond of spending time in it.  Apply today to adopt this big lover-boy! The suggested adoption donation for Scrappy Do is $400, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees. Please Note: A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we are only assisting the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. To learn about Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc.   If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital in Omaha, at no cost to you.  Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost.  If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice.  If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses.  All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age.  All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized.  Thank you in advance for your compliance. ##2078756##

Story
Crystal came to us in June with 7- 2 week old puppies. She is deaf and has had quite a rough start as she was dumped in rural Oklahoma, pregnant, and some good samaritans kept her while she gave birth to her puppies and once they were 2 weeks old, they reached out to find a rescue to take the young family in. We met them halfway and one of our incredible fosters worked through the nursing phase with her. It wasn't all that straight-forward as she has balance issues and was stepping on and laying on her babies so they needed to be separated, within the pen, so the puppies were safe. She is currently on medication to aid in her balance and walking issues so she will likely need to be on that medication for the rest of her life. The medication is approximately $10 for 2 months, so it is not expensive. Once the puppies were weaned, we were able to work a bit more with Crystal and she is in a new foster home getting constant love and attention with another resident dog. She is the sweetest, most gentle soul and only recently her foster reported that she is actually barking periodically, she hadn't done that prior. So, she is ready to move on to a permanent home that will understand her special needs as her balance is a bit better, but she exagerates her playing due to being off-balance. She is also deaf but her foster is getting a bit of signing going to help her be her best self. She is housetrained, chill, and so very loving. She is utd on vaccinations, chipped, and spayed. She is kennel trained but her foster just leaves the door open and she choose to go in as she pleases. She has picked up a habit of chewing on things but this sweetheart likely never had the opportunity to be a puppy so it's a matter of being proactive to give her things to chew that are ok. One side note, Crystal was shot with either bb's or buckshot at one time in her young life. When x-rays were taken there were several bb's or buckshot still in her body. We don't know what happened to this sweet girl but we know she was a wonderful mom to her pups and is a super sweet girl to her person. Consider giving this girl her new permanent life.
