Story
Meet Star! Star is a 10 year old Pyrenees/Hound mix. Star is a super sweet girl. She is house trained and does well with older kids. She needs an active family that keep her busy and exercised. Star needs a home with NO cats, and this pretty little lady prefers the company of male dogs only. If you would like to make this sweet girl a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org. STAR'S ADOPTION FEE IS $100The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    November 4, 2024, 9:21 am

Story
Ivory came from a family member who rescued her from a shelter to live on their farm. They didn’t know she had special needs and separation anxiety. She wouldn’t stay home. They were going to return her, but I took her 9 years ago; estimated around 11 years old. I am married with 6 children. The children are older and no longer give her attention, and I cannot be with her 24/7. My husband doesn’t like her, but tolerated her for my sake, and has shelled out big bucks for her care. Our finances are tight, and Ivory has required more care as a senior. She is super sweet, but she needs full-time attention. She wants to sleep indoors, but have access to outdoors. She requires a secure fence. She is crate trained. We have had numerous cats over the years, which she tolerated and mostly avoided. My husband and son are planning to surrender her at the local shelter if I can’t find Ivory a home. She comes with her crate, leash and current prescription and health records.

Story
Willow is a 4 year old Pryenees mix owner surrender. She was recently adopted out but returned due to showing aggressive behavior towards small children. She has met children at the shelter however and we have never seen any aggressive tendencies from her. However, because we were told she attempted to bite she is now only available to a home with no children. She is dog selective. She has a few at the shelter she gets along fine with and others not so much. We would want to do a meet and greet before sending her to a home with other dogs. She has done with with all adults we have introduced her to, and she walks well on a leash. She has not been cat tested.

Story
Buster came to us as a stray. He is a very friendly boy who gets along great with other dogs and people. He could fit into most households! He is older, and while he still has plenty of energy, he does not have the puppy tendencies which is awesome! He is great on a leash! And he keeps his kennel very clean.
