Story
This is Joker-now AKA Joey... A Great Pyrenees When this poor pup came to the kennel on August 2nd, 2023 he was 6 weeks old, and absolutely terrified. He came in with his 11 siblings, but was by far the most fearful. We are happy to report, he is doing great in his foster home!!! This guy... he has blossomed in his foster home! Here is what his foster parents have to say…. We’ve now had Joey for over a month. He is opening up more every day. Our dogs have seemed to really help with his confidence so it’s best he go to a home with another confident, stable, sweet dog who can help Joey build his OWN confidence from, and who can show him the ropes.. Not sure how he is around cats, but on our walks when he sees one he’s not interested. When going outside he loves doing his rounds and makes sure to alert us if he hears anything. He is super sweet and loves to put his paws right on me for pets and cuddles! UPDATE 2-27 on Joey from his foster family "He’s settling in nicely after just about a week with his foster family. His favorite thing to do is to pull all of his toys out and try and pick apart the soft toys. He doesn’t chew on anything he’s not supposed to, has had no accidents in the house, and walks well on a leash. His personality is starting to come out and he is so sweet, someone out there will be lucky to have him"! 'Joey' needs a loving, calm and most importantly, a patient home where someone is home more often than not, and who can spend time with him to help him build trust. Interested applicants should expect Joey to be big, and you should be prepared for that sweet and independent Great Pyrenees personality... to know the Great Pyr breed is to love them, but they are not Goldens, and we suggest you do some research on this beautiful breed before applying! He will need a secure above ground fenced yard as Great Pyrs love to be in their yard to protect and patrol, and this happens best when they are in a secure space! Can you help this sweet, shy boy learn how to become a confident, happy dog? If interested in meeting Joey, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##1787643##

Story
Hi! I'm Callie. I'm a gorgeous 2+ years old Pyrenees/Lab mix! I arrived at the kennel in late October, so I haven't been there too long. I've had a hard time over the last year. I was a stray for most of that time. A friendly postal worker noticed me and kept an eye on me. Eventually she and another good samaritan trapped me and took me in while they found a great rescue for me to come to. Of course I was very scared and intimidated when I first arrived at GRRAND. I would curl up in the corner of my kennel and not want to come out. But the kennel volunteers would sit with me in my run for hours, calmly petting and reassuring me that everything was about to get so much better - and they were right. Now I get to run and play with a ton of dogs in the play yard. I have so many new friends. I willingly go to the volunteers now for love and treats. We even go walking off-site and they tell me how wonderful I am on a leash. I get to sleep in a nice warm kennel with a blanket. I get two meals a day and as many treats as I can convince the vols to give me. It's so much better than living alone in deserted structures and dumpster diving for food! So I've come a really long way. I'm liking other dogs, trusting people and starting to enjoy life indoors! I think it's time for the next stage of my life where I can move in with a loving family. Could you help get me out of the kennel and into your loving family? I hope so! Callie was initially very scared and withdrawn, but with lots of love and attention from our awesome volunteers, she is starting to come out of her shell.  She is very calm and sweet. Our vet thinks she's around 2.5 years old. She loves to play with most other dogs in the play yards, as long as they are calm and laid-back. We also have her walking on a leash and she's doing wonderfully. She loves to be gently petted.  She is still a little timid with people she doesn't know, but warms as soon as she trusts you.  Until Callie is settled in a home she is going to be a flight risk, so she does need a secure fenced yard. She can scale a 4' fence, so ideally the home will have a 6' privacy fence.  She can go with another calm dog. As she is a flight risk pup she will not be able to go in a home with children under 13. We don't know how she does with cats. She does not mess in her kennel run, which is a decent indication she is house trained, but not a guarantee. Her energy level is moderate to low.  Callie is now ready for her next step, to go to a home, either foster or adoptive. Please fill out an app at GRRAND.org if you would like to meet her! ##1854181##

Story
Lizzie is one of Winter's 10 puppies born Jan 22! They are - the Pride and Prejudice litter! Lizzie is a 7 month old Great Pyrenees mix and has been waiting for her forever family! She is in a new foster home and this is what they have to say: "Lizzie has adjusted nicely since being in our home. She has found success in her crate and was potty trained within the first day- not a single accident in the house! She is respectful of our dog and is learning boundaries with out cats, who she is very interested in, but is showing no signs of aggression to at all. For a 7 month old puppy, this girl has a VERY calm temperament and is walking well on leash. She knows how to sit, and we are now working on other basic commands. Lizzie is a TOTAL Love Bug! She just wants to be near one of us at all times and would love cuddles and belly scratches all day if we would! She is really quite the gem, and will make a wonderful companion to a very happy family"! Any applicant with children under the age of 16, will require a home with direct access to a securely fenced yard... meaning direct access to the yard from the home… so this means no apartments or condos.  Applicants should also expect Winter's puppies to possibly be big, and you should be prepared for that sweet and independent Great Pyrenees personality... to know the Great Pyr breed is to love them, but they are not Goldens, and we suggest you do some research on this beautiful breed before applying! She will need a secure above ground fenced yard as Great Pyrs love to be in their yard to protect and patrol, and this happens best when they are in a secure space!  If you are interested in meeting Lizzie, please fill out an application at GRRAND.org ##1944333##

Story
Go to the GRRAND FB page to see a fabulous video of Wickham that was posted Sunday Sept 29!! Wickham was born Jan 22 and this poor boy has been waiting for his forever home for a while now and he is ready take the plunge and find his forever home! We know his momma is a Great Pyr, but we do not know what the breed of his father is as there were multiple breeds rescued and roaming the property his mom was rescued from. He is in a foster home and they say: "Wickham sleeps all night in his crate, is potty trained and is walking well on a leash. Loves playing with other dogs at the dog park and learned how to sit in just 24 hrs! Super smart and also loves to watch the Cleveland Browns play!" (Wickham said he would be willing to watch any team play with his forever family! LOL)    He says "HEY EVERYONE... Look no further because I am your guy! Like all Great Pyrs I will be there night and day to protect and care for you. I LOVE to explore and hang out and play with all my puppy friends! I am also very well socialized and like playing with dogs and older kids, and as you can tell from my latest pictures, I am a happy and very handsome guy too!! PLEASE COME MEET ME"! Any applicant with children under the age of 16, will require a home with direct access to a securely fenced yard... meaning direct access to the yard from the home… so this means no apartments or condos.  To know the Great Pyr breed is to love them, but they are not Goldens as there are some differences between them, and we suggest you do some research on this beautiful breed before applying! Story
Buck is just so sweet and very personable!! Buck is a 2 year oldish, super sweet, soft, fluffy Great Pyrenees looking for his forever family! He came from a very sad situation as he and all of his property-mates, or siblings, we don't know which, were all tied/chained to trees... but he never has let that hinder is wonderful friendly and laid back temperament! It's unbelievable how forgiving and loving he is, after all he's been through. Our volunteers say " Buck is a healthy and happy boy who is calmer than the other Pyrs that came in from that horrible situation. He is certainly a gentle giant and is just a really nice dog deserving of a loving family. This sweetie is Majestic in looks and gait and boy how he just loves and appreciates attention! He never knew what love and a gentle pat from a person was, and he is taking it all in now! He enjoyed being touched all over and showered with gentle hugs! He responds to treats and our trainers guidance very well". Buck is looking for a home with a fenced in yard, as the Great Pyrenees breed love nothing more than to hang out in the yard, patrol a little here and there and watch the world go by. Great Pyrs and Goldens are not the same, and we suggest you do some research to find out their breed similiarities and differences before applying. If you are a Great Pyrenees lover, you will know their delightful stubborness is what makes them so fun and challenging just the same!! If you are not familiar with the breed, to know the Great Pyr is to LOVE the Great Pyr! This guy is so deserving of a wonderful, loving home where he can get a big soft warm bed, and all of the TLC he can take! If YOU would like to be the one to open your home to Buck, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org ##1942358##

Story
Bliss (about 63lbs) and Bambi (about 43lbs) are a bonded and very playful pair of Golden mix girls who were strays and caught by a volunteer. We believe they may likely be mother and daughter (Bliss mother and Bambi daughter). They are both very loving and friendly and look to be quite skinny! We are still learning about them, but our volunteers say "Bambi looks and acts like a little deer. She is white and speckled gold. She’s a very happy and very quick to love you! She is probably about a year old. She’s going to need a little work because she’s an amazing jumper if anybody wants to do agility with her, because it looks like it be just up her alley! Bliss is pretty calm, very sweet, is just a tiny bit timid, but will go up to strangers and she loves to be petted. They have had no accidents in their run". They are looking to be adopted together. As we learn more about these girls, we will update but if you would like to meet these girls, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org   ##2062694##

Story
WHAT A CHARACTER Snowy is a stunning 4 year old, 75 pound pure Great Pyrenees. She's a very loyal companion, and as a Great Pyrenees feels its her job to guard the house. She loves doing her morning patrol of the property. Snowy is affectionate and loving, and she's always up for a good snuggle and some kisses. This girl will follow you around the house to always be close to you. In addition she is an active girl who loves her walks, play wrestling with you or entertaining you with her daily zoomies/chase your tail episodes. This funny girl is often making her foster family laugh, she has the best facial expressions and such an animated personality. We would love an adopter for Snowy who has experience with Great Pyrenees and is the strong leader that this breed needs. Her foster is doing training with her on obedience, leash walking and her role in the household. Included in Snowy's adoption fee: -She is already neutered, microchipped and has shots. -She comes with a new buckle collar, training collar, and 6 foot leash a 15 training leash . -You get two group training classes with our trainer. -We provide an introduction session to help set her up in her new home, giving advice and guidance on crate training, leash walking, and how to establish a routine and structure in your household for your new baby. -Lifetime support from us via phone, and in person.

Story
My name is Noodle and I am a 2 year old male, great pyrenes mix. I'm working on thumping my way into someone's heart this spring! And if I'm not hop, hop, hopping around the yard, I love to spin, spin, spin. It's hard to contain all my happiness. I love to give big hugs and get belly rubs in return. I'm a bit small for my breed, but I still weigh 75 to 80 lbs; I have a heart as big as my paws. I love playing with all of the humans and dogs that I meet; I will need a fenced in yard to keep me safe because, you see, I was born blind. But if you give me some time to explore my environment, I will get around just fine. My favorite things to do are to play in a kiddy pool and play with my basket of toys. I can't wait to find my forever home! Noodle requires a physically fenced yard that is safe for him to navigate and a home without children. If interested in adopting, our process begins with submission of our application. Please visit our website at www.adoptmebluegrasspetrescue.com and click on Thumper's picture in "Adoptable Dogs". Additional adoption FAQ's can be found here also. Meets will be set with approved applicants based on our "best family fit" approach. Thank you!

Story
Meet Star! Star is a 10 year old Pyrenees/Hound mix. Star is a super sweet girl. She is house trained and does well with older kids. She needs an active family that keep her busy and exercised. Star needs a home with NO cats, and this pretty little lady prefers the company of male dogs only. If you would like to make this sweet girl a part of your family, fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org. STAR'S ADOPTION FEE IS $100The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in.  Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!    September 22, 2024, 12:01 am

Meet Tyg (Tygrys) ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL: YOU CAN ADOPT TYG FOR JUST $1! PLEASE SHARE THIS POST FAR & WIDE. TYG DESERVES HIS HAPPILY EVER AFTER! Sadly, Tyg has been at the GRRAND kennel for over a year. The kennel volunteers recently had a pool party to celebrate Tyg's one-year anniversary at the kennel - he got to swim, eat doggie cake, and of course, get dressed up! Tyg is a 5-year-old Anatolian Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix who came to GRRAND in 2019 as a 3-month-old puppy. He was adopted by a couple who sadly had to return him in June 2023 due to unforeseen circumstances. He was so sad and would sit by the fence looking for his people to return. He is now settled at the kennel and is certainly a volunteer favorite! Once he decides you are okay, you will be his best bud - but it takes him a while to warm up to new people. He will try and squeeze his 100+ lb body on a chair with you for hugs and kisses. The volunteers love to dress him up and he never complains; the perfect model! He loves the pool and gets to go for a swim every day in the summer. He is very well trained on the leash and loves to go for walks, but he does have a tendency to lunge at large trucks and vans so he needs a strong hand to keep him under control. Tyg is a special boy. He is extremely sweet, loyal and protective of his people. We believe it's best for Tyg to go to a home with an experienced dog owner, no other pets and no children, ideally with a large fenced yard he can patrol, and few outside visitors. Please open your heart and home for this wonderful boy. He will repay you with an abundance of love and loyalty. #anatolianshepherd #anatolianshepherdmix #belgianmalinois #belgianmalinoislovers #belgianmalinoisofinstagram GRRAND trainers have promised Tygrys that they will educate the right family on how to handle a breed like his. Story
Liza & Layla are a bonded pair of Bernedoodle pups, about 4 months old who were likely dumped by a breeder in a rural area and survived for about a month by being fed by farmers in the area until GRRAND was notified and asked to help them! It was very hard capturing them as they are so fearful, but after one getting away, and then found again, we have them both and are trying to help them understand they do not have to fend for themselves and what love is all about! THEY MUST HAVE A SECURE ABOVE GROUND FENCED IN YARD as they are fearful and flight risks, and a home with NO KIDS UNDER the age of 16, as right now, the GRRAND kennel staff say IF you stand very still, and very quiet, they may come up and take a piece of food from you, but they take off again. They are starting to come around and trust people and need a home with folks who have lots of patience and are willing to work with them over time to teach them about life as indoor loved family members. We would be willing to consider separating the littermates, but do not want to leave one behind in the kennel if her sister was to leave, so we are looking for a home that would take both of them and either adopt them as a pair or adopt one and foster the other until another home could be found for her.  If separated, the pups will definitely need homes with another confident young dog that can help them gain their own confidence and show them the ropes. They BOTH LOVE playing with other dogs! With time and patience, they will come around, but need the correct family to help them work through their fears. Please fill out an app at GRRAND.org if you would like to meet Liza and Layla ##2080274##
