Story
Dolly has spent the last 5 months living with a trainer. I am helping to find her a forever home, but the adoption fee will go to the trainer. This is a 4 year old dog who was used to doing her own thing. When her owner went into a care home, a wonderful organization took her on. Here is what they have to say regarding her transformation: Dolly has made exceptional progress! She is a love bug and desperately wants to show a loyal family how good at being a Great Pyrenees she is. Her instincts are incredible and she is super smart. She has a dominant personality, but is willing to learn and is a sweetheart once you have made your boundaries clear. Like many of her breed, Dolly wants to spend a lot of time outdoors and loves the cold. She respects our fence, can be trusted off-leash, and is willing to take commands from different handlers. If you want to hike with an amazing friend or need a loving and thoughtful guardian, she could be the Teddy Bear you have always dreamed of!

Please contact Jim at 410-441-0866 (jim@fur-everpaws.com) for more information about this pet.  This dog is located in Elkton, MD. Visit us on the web at https://fur-everpaws.com/fur-ever-paws-adoption-application to submit an application. Please contact the foster directly at 410-920-3166(text or call) or via email at Fureverpawsdogrescue@gmail.com Fur Ever Paws Dog Rescue is a small no kill rescue operating in the Delaware/Maryland area. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit that rescues and places homeless, neglected or abused dogs from high-kill shelters in the south into loving, responsible committed and permanent homes. We feel our comprehensive adoption process which includes not only taking the time to match the dog to the prospective new owner but helping to educate that owner in responsible dog care, allows us to find the best homes for our little buddies and the best companions for you! Each week we use USDA certified transports to bring dogs from high-kill shelters in the south to our fosters where they all receive the appropriate medical care and are placed in nurturing loving homes while they await placement in their forever homes. Interested in one of our dogs? Great! Now that you've seen them here, you'll need to go to our website where you'll find our list of adoptable dogs (updated every week). Then, it's just a simple process of finding a dog you're interested in and filling out an application on our site. Once we receive your application, whoever is fostering that particular dog will contact you and do a short over the phone interview to complete your application process. If everything works out, they will set an appointment with you so come out and "visit" with the dog you're interested in (we want to make sure that not only are you a good fit for the dog but that the dog will fit with you). If everything works out, you'll be able to take rover (or spot, or jax) home with you that very day. A couple of things you should know: We can't hold dogs over the phone or via email. Adoption fees vary based on breed. All of our dogs have been vet checked and dewormed (if possible due to age, additional treatment may be needed). We provide a spay or neuter voucher to all of our adopters. &#226&#128&#139 December 17, 2024, 12:34 pm

Story
Dog Name: Killeen Breed: Pyrenees mix Sex: Male Age: 1 year and a few months Weight: approx 60 lbs Medical Needs: none Housebroken: yes, he’s great about alerting to when he needs to go. LIVES for being on a schedule. Crate trained: Killeen loves his crate and will even lay in there to chew on a bone over choosing the couch Good in the car: he will jump in without hesitation Good on a leash: as long as he’s wearing his prong he’s a gentleman. Without it, you’d think he was trying to win the Iditarod Energy level: medium-high… he gets zoomies and is always ready for an adventure Does he need a fenced in yard: no, but due to his size and energy a fenced-in yard with at least a 6 foot fence would make your life easier. Dog Friendly: yes, he thinks all dogs are his friends after a slow intro. If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive home? No Cat Friendly: yes, however his foster home has VERY tolerant and dog-savvy cats. If your kitty doesn’t like being played with, or isn’t used to being chased by a big dog… Killeen isn’t the dog for you. Kid Friendly: we do not recommend Killeen going to a home with kids, see his special traits. Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them: Killeen has been adopted and returned twice, because in the beginning of his adoptive transition he is a VERY nervous Nancy, and requires experienced handling. Upon coming to his current foster home he was so nervous and panicked that he would pant and drool at the slightest noise outside during walks. When Killeen became more comfortable in his foster home and started to take drives, he would bark manically at anyone who dared make eye contact with him at a red light. Fast forward two months, and he greets his foster humans with excited wags and prancy-toes. He play-bows with the kitties in the home and wants to play tag with the dogs. Are outings with Killeen a breeze? No; as he is still very nervous when people “sneak” up behind him in public, or approach with fast or loud movements. But every outing we see improvements and his confidence growing. Killeen is slowly learning how to greet people properly, and how to control his anxiety and fears. He will take treats from strangers that move slowly and softly. His current foster home has a very predictable schedule. There aren’t “strangers” (aka people that our dogs haven’t met) coming and going. People don’t just walk in the house or “stop by”. There aren’t children of any age to have loud movements or noise. Killeen’s ideal adopter will have similar breed experience, and be willing to continue working with him. EVERY. SINGLE. WALK out of the house is a learning and training moment for him. His adopter will have to be patient, consistent and firm, and with their direction we are sure Killeen will continue to grow into an amazing adult.
