Story
We took this guy in because he was too much for his previous owners. His name is Midnight. The need to rehome was urgent as his owners were going to shoot him because he was too much to handle. We are fostering him and need help with rehoming. He is a black Great Dane German Shepherd Lab mix. He is 1.5 years old. He is excellent with people. He is very reactive with our 2 dogs and 4 cats, but has not shown signs of aggression. I’m sure the environment is likely overstimulating. All he wants is love and cuddles. He would do best in a single pet environment. He is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. We cannot keep him long. Any help is kindly appreciated.

Hi, I am Sander! I am a very fun dog once I get to know you but I do prefer a slow introduction! I do not like to be grabbed/played with by my neck or collar. I am neutered and up to date on my vaccines. My new family must have great Dane experience.

Story
This is Dallas. He is a 2yr old piebald Harlequin Great Dane that we acquired July of 2022 in Beavercreek from a Petland. He is also AKC certified. Things we are looking in his next family home is a safe, dog friendly living space. He is very fun and playful, loves attention and is a total sweet heart. He can be vocal when he wants love and attention, and for as big as he is, he is gentle and very well behaved. He loves kids, is house broken, can be crated, and knows basic commands. He was raised with 2 other dogs, a border collie and a Bernese, and has behaved with other dogs. His coat has been an issue for one of our teenagers which is main reason why we must part ways with him. Despite efforts to curb and mitigate our teenager's severe allergies to him, it has come to the point where his dander is too overwhelming and can no longer manager the allergic reactions he causes.

He does have the run of the yard where he does his zoomies though.                                  PERSONALITY: Xander is extremely lovable and gentle even if he forgets his size sometimes. He rarely barks except when frightened or when people/dogs pass by when he’s in the yard. Xander is smart but lacks some discipline. He needs training to be a good walker. He pulls at first but quickly settles down. Will try to dart after rabbits and squirrels. Knows to sit for food and gives his paw. Not good at coming when called except in a confined area, like our yard. He is good with children and most people. Doesn’t trust men in hats or beards. Developed a tendency to growl at strange dogs after returning from the Rover Pet Sitting. Xander has a good-natured personality and loves being cuddled, and hugged and returns the same. He has a stubborn streak when he needs to be locked in and will occasionally try to run if he isn’t tempted with a treat.  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: WALKING and exploring. Car rides. When going for a ride he will be the first one in the vehicle. He is very good in a car. Coordination isn’t his thing and he’s no retriever. He does like to play catch me if you can with a ball, toy, or stick. Snuggling and just chilling with people. His most UN-favorite thing is being alone. He whines and whimpers. Not excessively. Again – rarely barks.  MEDICAL ISSUES: None. He was neutered a month ago and has healed well. He is up to date on all his shots and was tested for heartworm when he was neutered which was negative. All medical records will be provided. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: A home that can provide him with the attention he deserves. He craves affection and returns the same. He needs to be walked and have room to move around. Ideally, he needs to be included and surrounded by family members. I believe he would do well sharing his home with another dog or possibly cat and children.   Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Important notes before applying. Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. We will not adopt giant breed dogs to renters. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption.  Proof of any of the following exceptions is required: The intact dog is a working member of a law enforcement, or search and rescue/recovery team. The intact dog is registered under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is actively being shown. A veterinarian has determined the sterilization procedure would harm the intact dog.  We believe in Force Free Training Methods and do not approve of methods or devices using pain or force to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior.  Homes with highly varnished steps must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. **We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit.
