Story
Meet Freya, who was recently adopted from us by a very loving man, but sadly, he passed away in an accident a short time ago. She originally came to us from the community, as she was found abandoned in a trailer in SC. Freya a 1.5-year-old, 85 lb., Great Dane who is extremely loving. She is a little sensitive to loud noises at the moment and will remove herself from the situation. But we feel this is due to her being a scared right now because she's lost the dad and home she was comfortable with. She is currently being fostered by a friend of the dad and they tell us she's such a good girl and they are singing her praises. They told us that while she is a little skittish, she warms up quickly with treats. Freya is affectionate, gentle, housebroken, crate trained, great with kids, and great with other dogs. Freya is wonderful on leash and is respectful of letting the human go first versus pulling out the door. She is spayed and is current on her vaccinations. If you would like to meet this precious girl, please send us your email address to obtain an Adoption Application.

Story
Meet Sky, who comes to us from a local shelter. Sky is a 3-year-old, 85 lb., Great Dane. She came to us underweight and needs to gain about 20 more pounds. She is housebroken, crate trained, and good with other dogs and cats, but due to being starved she does show food aggression and would either need to be taught not to resource guard or be adopted to a family as an only dog. She is up to date on her vaccines and is spayed. Sky is very sweet and affectionate, loves to nuzzle right into you, is great on a leash, and would love to find her forever home. She is currently living in boarding and is also in need of a foster home. If you are interested in meeting Sky, please reach out to us for an adoption or foster application.

He is very dog, kid, and people friendly. Dru wants to please, loves to play, and would bring such joy and fun to your family. Lucy has severe separation anxiety and really need a home where her owners are there most of the time or can take her wherever they go.  If you are a retired couple and would like a wonderful companion who will love you outrageously, Lucy is your girl.  ~~ Adoption donation $150 . Diesel is a sweet older Great Dane mix dog.  His vet estimated birth date is 2017.  He weighs 77 pounds.  He'd love taking walks and then coming home to nap at your feet.  He can be a little iffy with other dogs, so he'd probably do best as an only dog, or you would need to do a very slow introduction if you have other dogs.  Diesel walks well on a leash. ~Adoption donation $200 . Story
Quick Facts: Estimated Birthday: 1/24/2023 Breed: Great Dane Mix Size: roughly 105 pounds House Trained: Yes Athena came to the rescue after an amazing bystander overheard her owners planning to dump her at a dog park! This hero bystander jumped in and contacted us about taking in the dog. Athena Darla may be a big girl, but she only has two speeds: 1. Play hard with other dogs, and 2. cuddle on the couch with a chew toy. Her favorite activity is playing with her foster dog brother, who is roughly about her size. She loves to cuddle with him and run in the yard with him. She is also a trained shadow to humans and will follow you around the house. A true definition of a velcro dog. Athena Darla is very dog-friendly to both large and small dogs. She walks well on a leash but does not enjoy car rides. She won’t fight it, but it’s her least favorite activity. She has not been cat tested at this time. Athena Darla is fully potty-trained, but she will be resistant on rainy days. A girl can't get her paws wet. Athena Darla does best crated while unattended for her safety. She can be a bit nosey and gets into things. She will need a heavy-duty crate in her forever home. Before emailing- please read: - Yes, this dog is available for adoption - The adoption fee for Athena Darla is $465 - Apply at c2cnd.org - The adoption fee covers their age appropriate shots, microchip, deworming, spay/neuter, and any other medical expenses while in our care. - Local adopters only. Due to our thorough adoption process including home visits, we limit our adoptions to local families in the greater Charlotte area. - If you have any additional questions, email us at dogs@c2cnd.org and we will respond as soon as possible!

Story
Meet Poppy! Poppy is a 3 year old Dane that was at a local surrender as a stray. We don't have a lot of info on her previous life but we do know she has had several litters. Poppy evaluated well at the shelter but sometimes in a shelter environment you don't always get a good read on a dog because they are stressed. Now...don't take that wrong...she is an amazingly sweet sweet girl! But... she is not so great with other dogs IN the home. She can go out in public and be around other dogs with a confident owner that is good at reading her signals if she is stressed. She doesn't bark or lunge or any of that nonsense unless she is with a "soft" owner and one where she feels they are not in control or confident. But... if a dog invades her space or their energy is too much she will let them know and fire off. Poppy LOVES her people and wants to be as close as she can. She is a first class cuddler! You need to keep food off the counters because this girl came in hungry and even though she is now getting regular meals she can counter surf like a pro! Since Poppy was a little rough around the edges we sent this beauty off to training. While she was there they worked on her being able to be OK around other dogs in public and also worked on desensitizing her on storms. Sister has some storm anxiety but if she is in her XXL kennel will settle. If you are at home and a storm rolls up...just put her in place with her place command and she will lay down and you won't hear a peep! Did we say how incredibly smart this girl is?? She is food motivated and would be great with a family that would want to continue training and keep her mind stimulated! Her trainer had a 5 month old and she was great with them...even gave her sweet kisses! Poppy rides great in the car, house trained and good on leash. Poppy is up to date on all vaccines, spayed and has had her stomach tacked to prevent gastric torsion. Poppy is being fostered in Concord NC with her trainer. He will provide extra training to her new owners and work with them and her on acclimating into a new home. Poppy needs a dog savvy owner that is confident and sets boundaries for her so she doesn't feel she needs to step up to do that. Poppy will require a fenced yard and no kids under the age of 12yrs. While she has been great with kids a home with lots of new kids in and out all the time would stress her. If interested in Poppy send us an email at  greatdanefriends.com*****Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love covers NC and surrounding states for adoptions. We require a fenced yard (exceptions made on a case by case basis - NO exceptions for puppies or deaf/vision impaired dogs - no invisible fencing), that stairs in the home be covered with some sort of slip resistant material to prevent injury, that all other animals in the home be up to date on vaccinations as well as spayed/neutered and that all dogs live inside as a part of the family. Our approval process consists of an application, vet and reference checks, phone interview and house check. Story
UPDATE***** Gus is a sweet and spunky just under year old boy who has been in the rescue since February. He has blossomed from a scared and insecure puppy with no boundaries and has made huge progress. He is a rough and tumble player and would love a home with another dog who loves to play, but would do equally well as an only dog in an active home. He loves going on adventures and is his foster dad’s Lowe’s buddy. When he’s done playing and trying to be a little mischievous, he loves to be sweet and cuddly with his foster siblings or whichever human is nearby. Gus will need a forever home dedicated to continuing training with him, and would do best without small children as he isn’t aware of his strength and size. He loves all dogs and all humans, and is a very curious boy working on becoming fully confident.    Gus is a ~seven month old Dane who came in very underweight and is now living his best toddler-teen Dane life. Full of energy and mischief, he is doing his best to learn boundaries and be a polite leash walker. He is crate trained and while he does do well out and about and takes redirection well, he’s also very agile and delights in squirming into exactly the places he shouldn’t be in so continued training, awareness and ability to keep him in a safe place while you are gone (crating or otherwise) is a must. He is a roughhouser and loves wrestling with his doggie foster siblings and playing with toys. He would do well with other dogs, or as an only dog in a home able to dedicate time to expending his high puppy energy! Due to his rambunctious nature and rough and tumble large puppy energy, he would do best in a home with no children or older children/teens. He is very sweet and cuddly in between bursts of energy, and his quick learning is serving him well as he grows. He will be (and already is) a magnificent dog!  **Giant breed experience required and a fenced yard.  If interested in adopting email us at info@greatdanefriends.com for an application*****Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love covers NC and surrounding states for adoptions. Story
Hank is a sweetheart of a puppy that loves to play and snuggle. He is approximately 4 months old, and has the best little happy personality. He is curious about everything. So far loud noises are the only thing we have found that he is scared of (lawnmower, train, fireworks) and zoomies from other dogs confuse him. He sits and stares with his little head cocked sideways until they finish and then he is ready to jump in and play. His favorite toys so far are ropes and shoes but we are working to curb the shoe fetish. Bones and the ears of his foster brother are also fair game for chewing. Hank will pick up sticks during his daily walks and happily carry them for a while until something else catches his eye. His is comfortable in a harness and leash when walking, but needs continued work on his manners. Hank is still underweight and we are feeding frequently to try and beef him up. He is currently around 40 pounds. He loves food and treats, and responds well to treat training so far. He gets along well with dogs of all sizes and is excited to meet them all. He also loves all the people he meets. We have taken him on pack walks in the neighborhood and on a few public outings and he has done well. He has been comfortable at the vet’s office so far and all the techs and vets have adored him. Hank is comfortable in his crate. He eats and rests in it, and sleeps in it at night. He is sleeping up to six hours at night before needing a bathroom break. Housebreaking is coming along. We let him out frequently and he knows to use the bathroom outside. However if he has to go and we don’t catch it he will still go in the house. Hank is being fostered in Pilot Mountain NC.  A fenced yard and giant breed experience is required.  If interested in giving Hank a forever home you can email us at info@greatdanefriends.com for an application!*****Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love covers NC and surrounding states for adoptions.
