Story
Quick Facts: Estimated Birthday: 1/24/2023 Breed: Great Dane Mix Size: roughly 105 pounds House Trained: Yes -=============================== Looking for a giant love bug to join your family? Athena Darla plays hard but cuddles harder. Athena came to the rescue after an amazing bystander overheard her owners planning to dump her at a dog park! This hero bystander jumped in and contacted us about taking in the dog. She’s an almost 2 yr old Great Dane. She must have slow introductions and doesn’t like overly excited dogs. Her foster says on some occasions she can be possessive, but loves to cuddle and play with her foster sibling. Athena is patient with the smallest dog in the house. She LOVES to be brushed and would sell her soul for butt scratches. Her perfect family would have a 6ft fence due to her size and love of running. She’s leash trained but hates getting her leash put on and will hide in her crate to avoid it. She’s not a fan of going in the car and leaving the house, but walks fine once you get her out the door. Athena is house and crate trained. She loves you once she gets to know you. While Athena loves attention, she doesn’t like when people approach quickly and would do best in a home with no kids or cats. Athena Darla does best crated while unattended for her safety. She can be a bit nosey and gets into things. She will need a heavy-duty crate in her forever home. Before emailing- please read: - Yes, this dog is available for adoption - The adoption fee for Athena Darla is $465 - Apply at c2cnd.org - The adoption fee covers their age appropriate shots, microchip, deworming, spay/neuter, and any other medical expenses while in our care. - Local adopters only. Due to our thorough adoption process including home visits, we limit our adoptions to local families in the greater Charlotte area. - If you have any additional questions, email us at dogs@c2cnd.org and we will respond as soon as possible!

Story
Meet Poppy! Poppy is a 3 year old Dane that was at a local surrender as a stray. We don't have a lot of info on her previous life but we do know she has had several litters. Poppy evaluated well at the shelter but sometimes in a shelter environment you don't always get a good read on a dog because they are stressed. Now...don't take that wrong...she is an amazingly sweet sweet girl! But... she is not so great with other dogs IN the home. She can go out in public and be around other dogs with a confident owner that is good at reading her signals if she is stressed. She doesn't bark or lunge or any of that nonsense unless she is with a "soft" owner and one where she feels they are not in control or confident. But... if a dog invades her space or their energy is too much she will let them know and fire off. Poppy LOVES her people and wants to be as close as she can. She is a first class cuddler! You need to keep food off the counters because this girl came in hungry and even though she is now getting regular meals she can counter surf like a pro! Since Poppy was a little rough around the edges we sent this beauty off to training. While she was there they worked on her being able to be OK around other dogs in public and also worked on desensitizing her on storms. Sister has some storm anxiety but if she is in her XXL kennel will settle. If you are at home and a storm rolls up...just put her in place with her place command and she will lay down and you won't hear a peep! Did we say how incredibly smart this girl is?? She is food motivated and would be great with a family that would want to continue training and keep her mind stimulated! Her trainer had a 5 month old and she was great with them...even gave her sweet kisses! Poppy rides great in the car, house trained and good on leash. Poppy is up to date on all vaccines, spayed and has had her stomach tacked to prevent gastric torsion. Poppy is being fostered in Concord NC with her trainer. He will provide extra training to her new owners and work with them and her on acclimating into a new home. Poppy needs a dog savvy owner that is confident and sets boundaries for her so she doesn't feel she needs to step up to do that. Poppy will require a fenced yard and no kids under the age of 12yrs. While she has been great with kids a home with lots of new kids in and out all the time would stress her. If interested in Poppy send us an email at  greatdanefriends.com*****Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love covers NC and surrounding states for adoptions. Story
Thor is a sweet three-year-old boy loves people and wants to be as close to you as he can. He enjoys daily walks and walks well on a leash most of the time. He rarely pulls but when he does, he is easily corrected. It is usually when he sees a squirrel. One of his favorite things to do is sit in front of a window and look out at the world around him. And he loves car rides, too. He acts nervous around other dogs at first, but he warms up quickly. His foster brother can play pretty rough, which Thor puts up with patiently and then just lets him know when he has had enough. Thor plays well with other dogs and enjoys running around the backyard. He would love to have a doggie brother or sister in his new home. Thor loves that his foster mom works from home. He will do best in a home where his owners are not gone for long periods of time. And no crates, please. He does not like them and will not go in them. He needs to be in a home that will not crate him. He sleeps through the night on his dog bed next to his foster mom’s bed. He doesn’t try to get up on the bed unless his foster mom calls him up. Kids? Thor loves them! Especially kids who give him lots of pets and love. Thor is very trustworthy in the house and is houses trained. He knows basic commands like sit and lay down and we are working on stay. He wants to be right by your side so stay is a little hard for him right now. He gets very excited when people enter the home but he calms down very quickly. Thor was an owner surrender who was taken in by a concerned family who nursed him back to health. He is about good as dogs come and just wants to show you how much he loves you. Thor is neutered and up to date on all vaccines. He is being fostered in Charlotte NC. Story
Please allow me to introduce myself… My name is Inky. I am an approximately 4-month-old pup that was found as a stray and was in a shelter for a few days until GDFRL sprung me out and took me in. I am grateful to be off the streets and in a warm and loving home with my foster parents! Since my arrival I am learning to do my business outside and have become comfortable with my crate. When I’m ready to spend time in my crate, I walk right in and sit down and wait for my treat. I have also learned to sit since food and love often follows! I love my new sweater that keeps me warm and all my new toys to play with and exercise my mind. I have tons of energy and love to run around with my new ball and Kong. I’m still learning to choose to use my mouth for good but I mean well and just want to play. I feel so much better with a family — my appetite is back! My foster home has two cats, whom I love very much, but I’m learning now to not invade their personal space too quickly. I am curious towards them, but never aggressive. I’m still learning to walk on a leash, but I have zoomies in the back yard down pat. I really enjoy being around people, and my foster family tells me I’m a true Velcro Dane. I would love to find a family that has another dog, so I have a companion to play with and to learn from. I have all the potential to become an amazing member of the right family that can help me learn and I promise to look adorable with my puppy eyes while that happens. Are you that family?  If interested in adopting you can email us at info@greatdanefriends.com.  A fenced yard and giant breed experience is required.  *****Great Dane Friends of Ruff Love covers NC and surrounding states for adoptions. Story
Helloooo World! Let me introduce myself - my name is AUGGIE, short for Augustus, but Foster Mom says that is way too formal for me. My previous owner surrendered me to an animal shelter, but thank goodness Great Dane Friends came and got me out of there. I am about 18 mths old, but I have the small stature and puppy face that will keep me looking young forever - your very own perpetual puppy. I am a smart boy, who does know a few things, but Foster Mom says I have more to learn. I am the bestest boy at sitting and I always throw in a bonus paw shake when my butt hits the floor. Sometimes my paw shaking enthusiasm almost throws me off balance. I am learning to Wait for my food dish and it so HARD when the food looks so good. I can’t stop the drool and Foster Mom laughs because I usually get two matching drool bubbles on either side of my mouth while I wait - just release me lady so I can EAT! And another Auggie bonus - I am very neat and always wipe my face after a good meal but for some reason using the couch as a napkin gets me in trouble - jeez, so many rules! Foster Mom says I need some practice walking on leash and just being a little braver out in the world. I am curious about other dogs and sometimes my enthusiasm gets a little loud when we are out and about. I’m a fairly vocal guy and an awesome singer aka howler, so I just can’t stop myself from being verbal. When I play with my foster sister, who is half my size and very sassy, we get fairly loud trash talking with each other. Did I mention what an awesome snuggler I am? Please do provide me with a pillow and soft blanket or I will just have to take yours - sorry a puppy’s gotta do, what I gotta do to stay comfy. I have gotten a little snarky when I’m trying to snuggle with Foster Mom and my Foster Sis comes up, so I am having to work on sharing or she says no more snuggles for me - UGH, so much to learn! I am crate trained but have my own room right now because my happy tail had to heal. Foster Mom says I am about 75% housetrained. I’m really good about letting you know I have to go, but if you aren’t around sometimes a boy just can’t hold it. I promise I’m working on that. If you feel your life is needing an Auggie - well HERE I am! Please contact my friends at Great Dane Friends at info@greatdanefriends.com and they’ll hook us up. Story
Meet Cocoa Bean (aka: Beanie). Beanie is a super sweet and snuggly 4 month old 75% Dane, 25% Coonhound mix ( owners did DNA). Beanie came to the rescue from a home breeder who was unable to find a home for her. Beanie’s personality has really blossomed as she navigates life at her foster home with human and fur siblings and a flock of chickens! When she came to us, she was quite shy and reserved due to so many changes, but has finally found her playful puppy side. Beanie enjoys chasing after tennis balls and trying to take sticks away from her much bigger GDFRL alumni foster brother just as much as she enjoys snuggling on the couch watching YouTube with her skin siblings. She loves meeting folks at the local brewery and has made quite a few new fur and human friends. She is wonderful around other dogs and absolutely adores kids. Her 25% coonhound side is hard to discern, until the occasional bark where that hound dog tone shines through! It’s very endearing. She is progressing with her basic commands and is easily redirected. She is almost completely house trained--as long as those human siblings are paying attention--and spends nights and any unsupervised time quietly in the crate. Beanie would make a great addition to any family, could that be you? Beanie is being fostered in Asheboro NC. A fenced yard and previous giant breed experience is required.
