Story
Well here we have our fabulous girl Phoenix who was on the loose for some time and finally was caught. We are now looking for a breed experienced person with Danes. she can be weary of new people but once she is out and meets you, she is a sweet girl. Phoenix knows basic commands (sit, paw, down, and double up a Dane thing). she walks nice on leash and a gentle giant when it comes to treats. She can be selective with others, but we did dog test her and she did good, so as always, a meet and greet is required.

Story
Are you looking for a true Southern belle Dane? If so, then Mya is your belle of the ball! Mya is a beautiful five-year-old fawn Dane (mixed in with a little we-don’t-know what) who doesn’t simply walk, she sashays her hips from side-to-side as she sidles up to you for a lean-in rub. Like a true belle, Mya is house trained and will let you know when she needs to go out by going to the back door. She loves a cuddle and, when she is completely relaxed, will roll on her back and put all four of her pretty paws in the air for a full-on belly rub. The couch and her dog bed are her places to get extra love. Mya was overweight when she came to her foster family- but she is slowly slimming down. Mya does best with a sensitive skin and stomach dog food (easy to buy online) and has absolutely no food aggression. Mya LOVES her treats (very food motivated) and has been known to counter surf (which her foster family is working on with her) when her foster family is out of the house. She does well at home alone but, true to Dane style, she prefers to be around her people. Like a Southern belle, Mya LOVES to be in the garden and stares intently at a tree for the longest time- in hopes of chasing a squirrel that dares to climb down or waiting for we don’t know what! Mya is a great companion in the car and loves to go for rides. She is on medication (Pruin) for mild leakage- but the vet feels that as she loses weight it will be a non-issue. Mya is very protective over her family members and we are working with her on this. Mya will sashay her way into your heart and home in no time! Please include your home area code and a phone number where a volunteer can reach you when contacting us about adoption.

Story
Mercedes is a 10 month old Great Dane puppy that came in to rescue with her littermate Lexus. Not much is known about their past, but Mercedes has put the past behind her, and is excited about her future! Mercedes is all puppy! And a big one at that! She demands inclusion, and is completely at the ready for any action that might come her way! She is highly food motivated, and learned "sit" in 2 sessions when a coveted food item was the result! Mercedes is incredibly sweet, and would love to be petted and adored all day long. She is currently in a foster home that works remote, and she hangs out in her foster mom's office all day long. Mercedes loves to investigate, and will chew up anything she deems chewable, so she does need a close eye kept on her. She is learning boundaries and is working hard to learn obedience basics. She is a pro, with the right treat! She is very smart, and eager to please-sometimes a little too eager. Her adoption contract will have a training contract addendum to make sure she stays on the right track in a new home. Mercedes is currently living in a home with 5 other Great Danes. She gets along beautifully with the males in the home, but has challenged the foster home's female senior Great Dane a few times. The foster home has redirected this behavior, but an adopter should be savvy enough to have slow meetings with any dog on walks etc. She does do fine with her female sibling but they have been together all of their lives. Ideally, an male only canine home would be best for Mercedes but she would do well in a one dog home that gives her the attention she needs. Mercedes will make a fantastic addition to any home that can channel her puppy energy for success. Mercedes will reward the effort endlessly with boundless love and affection. Mercedes came into MAGDRL August 2024 Dogs: male preferred Cats: unknown kids: 8+

Story
Arlo is a big beautiful 22 month old black natural eared Dane who came in to rescue after being returned to the shelter where he was surrendered as a 7 month old, twice adopted and twice returned. Arlo is big and strong and has no manners, but he is so sweet and loving and needs to learn how to show his love appropriately. So Arlo was sent for board and training to learn manners and how to become an obedient companion. He has great potential and MAGDRL is working on helping him be all he can be. He will need an adopter who will continue to work on his commands and training. He will have lifetime access to his trainer so that will come with Arlo's adoption. Arlo came to MAGDRL in October of 2024 and will not be available for adoption until he completes his training. Then he will need a foster home or adopter. Arlo is good with cats and small animals, he has no prey drive. He would probably do best as an only dog as he is such a rough player. Keep checking back for updates on Arlo's progress.

Story
Dog Name: Tibby Breed: Great Dane Sex: Female Age: 5 months Weight: 56 pounds (and gaining quickly) Medical Needs: She recently had some bone membrane inflammation from growing so quickly. She gets Dasaquin and a raw egg including the shell on her food once a day. We highly recommend talking to your vet about scheduling a gastropexy to prevent bloat which is common in Great Danes. This will be the responsibility of the adopter. Tibby is already spayed. Housebroken: It took a lot of consistency but she hasn't had an accident in a couple of weeks now. We take her out every 2-3 hours during the day. Crate trained: She sleeps in her crate from about 9 pm til 6ish am. She doesn't like being crated alone in a room. Good in the car: Yes Good on a leash: Work in progress. She likes staying close to you, so close that she sometimes trips you Energy level: Medium. She plays hard but also crashes hard. Need a fenced in yard: No but you might have a hard time getting her to do her business while leashed. Dog Friendly: Yes If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? We think she'd do best with another dog in the home, unless you're home a lot. Cat Friendly: Not tested but don't foresee an issue Kid Friendly: Yes If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Any age with proper supervision Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them: Tibby is one of 7 Great Dane puppies that came to us from the South. Tibby can be insecure at times and likes to bark at new stuff. She's a lovebug and always up for a cuddling session on the couch. As far as training goes, Tibby is easily distracted and needs a little more repetition than her sister did.  Fosters Location: Delmar, MD Application can be found here: https://www.grrde.org/adoption-application If you already have an approved application on file, email GrassRootsDE@gmail.com and ask the app team to pull your application. ##2175487##
