Fill out an Adoption Application **Courtesy post located in Bel Air, MD** AleXander the Great is a wonderful boy in search of a family to call his own... a family that can show him time, love, and the attention he deserves.   HISTORY: Xander, to no fault of his own, has had to jump around a bit due to his family's financial difficulties.  When times were good he lived with his human mom, two other great danes and a chocolate lab with plenty of room to run around.  His best friend was his 7-year-old human brother.  He also spent some time with a Rover Pet-Sitter but ultimately funds ran out and is currently living in the basement of the home where he isn’t allowed upstairs. He does have the run of the yard where he does his zoomies though.                                  PERSONALITY: Xander is extremely lovable and gentle even if he forgets his size sometimes. He rarely barks except when frightened or when people/dogs pass by when he’s in the yard. Xander is smart but lacks some discipline. He needs training to be a good walker. He pulls at first but quickly settles down. Will try to dart after rabbits and squirrels. Knows to sit for food and gives his paw. Not good at coming when called except in a confined area, like our yard. He is good with children and most people. Doesn’t trust men in hats or beards. Developed a tendency to growl at strange dogs after returning from the Rover Pet Sitting. Xander has a good-natured personality and loves being cuddled, and hugged and returns the same. He has a stubborn streak when he needs to be locked in and will occasionally try to run if he isn’t tempted with a treat.  FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: WALKING and exploring. Car rides. When going for a ride he will be the first one in the vehicle. He is very good in a car. Coordination isn’t his thing and he’s no retriever. He does like to play catch me if you can with a ball, toy, or stick. Snuggling and just chilling with people. His most UN-favorite thing is being alone. He whines and whimpers. Not excessively. Again – rarely barks.  MEDICAL ISSUES: None. He was neutered a month ago and has healed well. He is up to date on all his shots and was tested for heartworm when he was neutered which was negative. All medical records will be provided. WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: A home that can provide him with the attention he deserves. He craves affection and returns the same. He needs to be walked and have room to move around. Ideally, he needs to be included and surrounded by family members. I believe he would do well sharing his home with another dog or possibly cat and children.   Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed. Important notes before applying. Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina. We will not adopt giant breed dogs to renters. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption.  Proof of any of the following exceptions is required: The intact dog is a working member of a law enforcement, or search and rescue/recovery team. The intact dog is registered under the auspices of the American Kennel Club and is actively being shown. A veterinarian has determined the sterilization procedure would harm the intact dog.  We believe in Force Free Training Methods and do not approve of methods or devices using pain or force to control the dog, or to deter undesirable behavior.  Homes with highly varnished steps must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. **We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application I’m Zeus, chief god of the Greeks. Oh no. That was a different Zeus. I’m Zeus. The 4 year old Great Dane saved from a North Carolina shelter.  But I’m awesome just the same. I am so friendly and sweet that the pilot that brought me to Maryland wanted to adopt me.  He actually asked his wife and she said no.  (He should rehome her.) I am crate trained and potty trained. I am good in the house as long as there isn’t something super tempting around like a bag of treats  or steak sitting on the counter. I take treats extremely gently. I know sit and down. I am a happy boy. I have moderate energy. I love to shake my stuffy toys. I love playing fetch with the ball and I even bring the ball back. I also love a bully stick or filled Kong to chew on.  My foster mom says I’m a good boy and I don’t resource guard. My foster mom always feeds us all separately though because she says it’s best to not create a problem. I am living with 2 Great Danes. I love to play with both the male and the female. My foster mom says my foster brother is a butt because he doesn’t always get along well with other dogs but even do great with him. There is a little ankle biter dog who lives next door that barks at me and I pretty much ignore him. There are chickens here too and my foster mom says she doesn’t believe I have good intentions.  I sleep in my crate at night and go in with a couple of treats. I am quiet as a church mouse all night. I am left in a room during the day if foster mom can’t watch me and I’m not destructive. My foster mom says I am excited to go on a leash and I pull but should get better with practice. I now use a gentle leader and I am perfect with that.   I love car rides (and plane rides if you happen to want to take me on a plane). I literally just lay down in the car and occasionally sit up to look out the window.   I’m happy and confident and love all people big or small. I even met a cat at tractor supply and sniffed but did not fixate and my foster mom thinks I would be fine with a dog savvy cat. I also met a little dog that growled at me when I sniffed his butt and I just waked away. My foster mom believes I would do fine with a little dog. I have also gone to Home Depot and I was an extremely good boy there also. I love meeting new people. I don’t seem bothered by loud noises like the leaf blower or thunder or the vacuum cleaner. I love to be petted all over. I was ok for my bath. I liked the rub down but not the water but my foster mom thinks I just am not used to it. I am very treat motivated and take treats very gently. I am friendly with kids so a dog savvy kid should be great. I would love a playful canine sibling but I would be fine as an only pet as long as I get a little exercise like playing ball once or twice a day. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application HEADLINER: Rudy is a bouncy, exuberant boy with a loving soul with lots of affection to give! An experienced adopter and a family with teens and up would be a great match for Rudy given his size and goofball play style. Rudy is loyal, eager to please and affectionate -would love to be your only pet so he can have all your attention to himself! HISTORY: Rudy grew up with a young family and was surrendered due to small children/new babies arriving and the family not having time for this sensitive companion. His current home was intended to be a “foster fail” one while continuing to fosters dogs but despite best efforts to socialize with other dogs, Rudy does not like sharing his mom with new foster dogs. PERSONALITY: Rudy is a handsome, affectionate Great Dane who is energetic & playful yet wants to be your lap dog at the same time -- a true velcro dog! When excited, this 155# puppy bounces around with joy. Rudy will need time to warm up to unfamiliar faces, but once he does he is eager to call you a new friend. Relative to the family’s four legged family members, Rudy bonded with foster brother schnoodle from the beginning. Due to his reticence sharing his humans’ attention, will thrive in a home where he’s the only pet. Rudy is motivated to be with his family, responds to affection and treats. His bouncy personality is sure to endear himself into your heart. FAVORITE ACTIVITIES: Loves to go for daily walks, chasing his ball on a rope, running zoomies in his fenced backyard and adores snuggling on the sofa with his head on your lap. He wants to play with his foster brother but a 15yo 10# schnoodle is no playmate, so Rudy will play catch with himself using his stuffed toys. Rudy loves his stuffed ‘woobies,’ snuggling against his ‘person’ and has a slow motion lean-in nose touches down to an art form. MEDICAL ISSUES: Rudy (4yo) was neutered and had gastropexy (stomach tacked) when he arrived at his current home. This dignified Great Dane has a sensitive stomach (managed well with probiotics) and sensitive skin (dandruff is managed well with daily fish oil and monthly baths). WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST KIND OF HOME: Rudy loves to turn heads on his daily walk so if you’re looking for someone to take walks with, Rudy’s your boy. If walks aren’t possible, a home with a fenced backyard to stretch his long legs would be a dream come true for this playful giant. Rudy is truly a velcro giant and enjoys calm, cozy nights at home snuggling- as close to your lap as possible :). ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Handsome Rudy has leash manners, enjoys his crate for meals (and naps), has excellent recall and knows commands sit (working on stay), no, off and lay down. He likes to learn new tricks when he’s rewarded with a tasty treat. He’d love to work on his socialization to become the best pet he can be! Rudy is a loyal & lovable gentle giant- if you think you have the perfect family home for Rudy, please contact us -- we’d love to find out more about you!! Story
Arlo is a big beautiful 22 month old black natural eared Dane who came in to rescue after being returned to the shelter where he was surrendered as a 7 month old, twice adopted and twice returned. Arlo is big and strong and has no manners, but he is so sweet and loving and needs to learn how to show his love appropriately. So Arlo was sent for board and training to learn manners and how to become an obedient companion. He has great potential and MAGDRL is working on helping him be all he can be. He will need an adopter who will continue to work on his commands and training. He will have lifetime access to his trainer so that will come with Arlo's adoption. Arlo came to MAGDRL in October of 2024 and will not be available for adoption until he completes his training. Then he will need a foster home or adopter. Arlo is good with cats and small animals, he has no prey drive. He would probably do best as an only dog as he is such a rough player. Keep checking back for updates on Arlo's progress.

Story
Green Collar (Boogie) is part of a litter born on Halloween who will be available for adoption after 8 weeks of age. Mama is a Great Dane but we don't know about the daddy so they are at least half Great Dane. Green Collar or Boogie is another one the foster mom has affectionately "renamed" from his official MAGDRL name-and he has multiple names! Magnum, Magnus, and several other renditions of the sort all because he is another big guy! Boogie is the outlier where color is concerned, as he is the only one of the litter that is not a "mismarked mantle!" Sporting his beautiful brindle coat with his white nose, paws and tip of his tail, he is a looker now, but he will be super handsome when he grows up! And he knows it! He proudly strides across the puppy pen and is always posing if someone passes by the pen! He is super sweet, and loves to cuddle.
