Story
Just like the famous aloof, romantic hero of classic literature, Mr. Darcy may start off wary of affection, but quickly warms up with some patience, treats, and a soft voice. Mr. Darcy is a 1 year old Goldendoodle who was found as a stray near a local hotel and entered the shelter afraid, wondering why he was here. Once he feels comfortable, he becomes the most loyal shadow you could ask for. He’ll follow you around the house, lean in for pets, and soak up every bit of affection you’re willing to give. We are seeking an experienced home for Mr. Darcy who will offer calm reassurance, consistency, and let him build confidence at his own pace. He would do best in a home without young children that understands sensitive pups and is ready to help him continue growing into the loving, snuggly companion he’s meant to be. If you'd like to learn more about Mr. Darcy and our adoption process, please give us a call at 516-869-6311 or email us at animalshelter@northhempsteadny.gov. *Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you. Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about this dog, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability. Please go to www.theshelterconnection.org for more information about and directions to the shelter.

Story
Quill is a 2 year old mini Goldendoodle that we believe was dumped by his breeder. He was on the run for three weeks before being caught. Getting him to safety was a priority because he had been "gifted" by a porcupine and his mouth was full of Quills preventing him from eating (hence his name). Because of his past a fenced in yard is required for this boy. He is still very shy but will take a treat out of my hand. He will need a patient home willing to work with him to gain confidence. . Please go to the website and fill out an application if you are interested in meeting him. www.susieqdogresq.com

Story
Meet Chase! Chase is a 2-year-old Mini Goldendoodle, weighing in at about 30 lbs of pure sweetness. He’s settling beautifully into his foster home and learning the ropes quickly. This happy, wiggly boy is ready to find a forever family who will love him for who he is and help him continue to blossom. Chase is great with dogs of all sizes, does wonderfully with cats, and is fantastic with kids. Chase seems to be pad trained but his foster home is working on getting him outside for his business. He loves being part of the action and enjoys the company of gentle, friendly companions—human and furry alike. Because Chase’s past is unknown, he can be fearful of unfamiliar men. With proper introductions, patience, and reassurance, he warms up and shows his affectionate, goofy side. Without that slow intro, he may fear-nip, so a family willing to respect his boundaries and give him time to trust will help him thrive. Because of this no first time dog owners for Chase. Chase’s ideal home is one that can offer him stability, kindness, and understanding. In return, he’ll reward you with loyalty, joy, and endless cuddles. If you’re looking for a sweet, smart companion with a heart of gold, Chase might be the perfect fit. 💛

Story
This is Max — an absolutely stunning 8-month-old, 44-pound golden doodle with the personality to match his good looks. Max’s former owner kept him secretly in a no-dog apartment since he was a tiny puppy — but tiny puppies grow, and once Max wasn’t so little anymore, management insisted he had to go. Thankfully, this golden boy is now safe with our rescue and ready for a fresh start. * Max is truly a golden child: friendly with everyone he meets (people, dogs, and cats!), full of that perfect doodle energy, and an ideal companion for someone who enjoys running or active outdoor time. When he first arrived, his coat was a bit wild — but after a fresh groom, just look at this handsome guy now! * Max is up-to-date on vaccinations, has his neuter scheduled, and is fully prepared to travel North to meet his new family. He Is curreny with his foster family in Lousiana. * If you’re ready for a joyful, affectionate, active companion, apply today at NYSRR.com. Max can’t wait to start his new life with you!

Story
Cookie - 4 years, 42lbs, Doodle Mix, Spayed  This dog is eligible to join our foster-to-adopt program. Please email fostertoadopt@socialteesnyc.org with the animal’s name in the subject line if you are interested! Want to straight up adopt? Submit an adoption application at socialteesnyc.org Level of dog ownership experience needed:INTERMEDIATE: This dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Energy levelMEDIUM: Needs a daily 60-90 minute walk or window of quick paced exercise (minimum) in addition to potty break strolls (10-30 min each). Also needs significant socializing opportunities outside the home and mental stimulation at home like tricks training practice, chew items, and puzzle toys. (This is regardless of dog size – many small breeds were designed for lots of activity and will exhibit unwanted behavior when they’re understimulated.)  Okay in the city?We don’t know yet. Most adult dogs do well in the city after they’ve had time to adjust to a new environment, but some never adapt and need homes in the burbs.  Potty trained?Probably! Adults usually are, but all will have transitional accidents for the first week or so. A consistent walking route and schedule plus finding spots with grass or dirt can help. Social with other dogs?Yes, but we don’t know to what degree yet. Some like to wrestle with every passing pup, others can coexist well but prefer to keep to themselves. We’ll learn more soon. Social with cats? Not sure yet! Some breed mixes that are generally NOT great matches for homes with cats include large hounds, huskies, and shepherds.  Comfortable with children?  (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)We’re not sure yet, but we try to err on the side of caution. Respectful kids ages 8 and up are probably a safe bet. Children must always be monitored and taught to interact with dogs of any age respectfully.  Medical statusHealthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies vaccines; heartworm tested if coming from the South or Puerto Rico ; spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake How this dog ended up with Social Tees:Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives.  PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old). We do our best with very educated guesses though!  This animal is not at the Social Tees office, all are in foster homes.
