Story
Meet Smuckers, an adorable 1-year-old, 67-pound mix of Golden Retriever, Poodle, and Missouri mutt. This sweet, fluffy guy spent the first year of his life living in an outdoor pen with his three littermates, and transitioning to life in a home is still a new and exciting experience for him. In just six weeks, Smuckers has made incredible progress, but he’s still learning and growing every day.
Smuckers is a loving and affectionate dog who craves attention from the people he trusts. As he gains confidence, he will continue to blossom, so he needs a patient, understanding adopter who is committed to his journey. While Smuckers is gentle and never reacts aggressively, he is easily startled and may drop to his belly or run when scared. He’s not a dog who will adjust quickly, so a calm, stable home environment is essential for him to feel safe.
Living with Smuckers means providing a space where he can take things at his own pace, offering plenty of love and patience. Even simple changes in his surroundings—like moving furniture—can make him nervous, so a quiet, predictable routine will help him thrive.
Smuckers is friendly and playful with other dogs and would thrive in a home with another medium or large dog to help him feel more secure. He’s also a sweetheart with his foster’s resident cat, happily grooming each other. He’s housetrained, never having had an accident, and he’s still learning the ropes of leash walking. Smuckers loves the outdoors and would do best in a home with a physically fenced yard where he can safely run and play.
Smuckers is looking for a patient, experienced adopter who is home often and understands that his transformation will take time. If you have the time, space, and love to help him become the best version of himself, Smuckers would be the perfect addition to your family!
Smuckers is housetrained, kennel trained, neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped.
