Story
I adopted Ace from a family member when he didn’t get along with another dog. While he gets along with us we can’t figure out how to introduce him to new people without him being over protective and nippy. He will sit to go outside to go potty. He does have accidents as I have two different jobs and kids and I haven’t been able to train him. He is an adorable dog that howls like a hound. If we leave without him. He isn’t destructive when we leave. He would benefit from training and a fenced yard to run in. We have not been able to walk him as he is too strong. I do not recommend young children as he gets very excited. He is currently around 10+. Adoption fee is returnable after proof of neutering.

ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet Grace, the spirited pup with a heart full of love and a zest for life that's sure to bring joy to any home. With an estimated weight of 45 lbs, Grace may be compact in size, but she's bursting with energy and affection. Grace's list of likes is simple yet heartwarming - she thrives on the love and affection of her human companions, along with tasty treats to reward her good behavior. However, she does have a dislike for loud noises, so a calm and peaceful environment would suit her best. Despite her past challenges, including sensitivity at the vet and making a mess at home, Grace is ready to turn over a new leaf and find a loving forever family who can provide her with plenty of exercise, enrichment, and, most importantly, unconditional love. Story
Stevie (aka Higgins) has a golden retriever temperament - loving and gentle. His foster Mom shared these insights: When I sit on the floor he comes over and gently sniffs my head-shoulders-cheek - his whiskers tickle. He enjoys petting and eagerly approaches and leans in for it. He loves food, especially plain, unsalted rice cakes as treats! Stevie is a brave dog, but had a hard life before HART. He was picked up as a stray in southwest Virginia, dirty, matted and wandering around alone, which is especially disturbing because he is fully blind. Although he can't see his sense of smell and hearing are excellent and help him navigate quite well after he learns the obstacles in a space. Stevie is smart and is quickly learning commands. Let us know if you would like to meet this smart, gorgeous boy! Thank you for your interest in Stevie The Golden! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=18484 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet Stevie The Golden, or to submit an online application. HART adopts to the local DC/VA/MD metro area only. Visit our website for more information about our adoption process.

Story
Bear is a happy and friendly dog with a sweet smile.  He generally gets along well with dogs of all sizes and loves to play chase and wrestle in the yard.  He is respectful of smaller dogs and usually takes a low position to make them more comfortable. He is gentle with people and has done well with both adults and children alike.  The only issue with small children is his size, and he may lean against or push on a small child being unaware of his body size and space. Bear loves “sniffing walks” and to explore his neighborhood, but must remain on a leash at all times.  He understands the commands sit, down, wait, and “inside”. He is responsive to liver treats (his favorite) and is usually gentle when taking one.  Bear prefers to chew on soft toys. He sleeps on the couch at night and prefers a soft surface due to his past leg surgery.  In typical Pyrennes fashion, he can be protective of his home and yard.  He will bark to let others know that he is guarding his space but is fine with people entering the home.  He has never met a stranger and is very enthusiastic to make new friends.     If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application and a representative will get back to you shortly to answer any questions you may have.
