ABOUT ZELDA Meet our sweet girl, Zelda! She is a 5-year-old mixed breed with the biggest heart! Zelda came to HAP when her owners could no longer care for her. Despite being in the shelter after living in a home, she has remained a lover girl. Zelda enjoys meeting new people and is very friendly. When she's not snuggled up with someone, you can usually find her curled up on her bed enjoying a long nap. Zelda also enjoys going for long walks and playing with stuffs. Zelda already knows basic commands, walks well on a leash, and is very eager to please. She has done well meeting other dogs, though she prefers calm, gentle doggy friends best! If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.

Story
Meet The “Valentine’s Day” Group! These scared sweeties are 5-6 month old Golden Retriever mixes who were saved from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster county due to not being sold. This particular puppy mill makes the top of the list of the worst puppy mills we have seen, and horrifyingly seems to be growing as people continue to fund their abuse by purchasing their golden and “doodle” puppies. This group has spent the first five months of their life living in a barn and receiving absolutely no socialization, therefore they are very shy and shut down right now. With these types of “popular” breeds, we run into issues with potential adopters not understanding that they are still rescue dogs and have come from circumstances that they still need help recovering from. It’s hard for people who don’t understand this to rationalize why the cute golden puppy is hiding in a corner trembling just because they have come near them. There are plenty of puppies in rescue who have grown up in loving environments and are very well socialized and adjusted, but puppy mill dogs are not these types of dogs. (Check out our website to see some of our non puppy mill well socialized and adjusted puppies who are also looking for a forever home!) We make sure every adopter of a puppy mill dog understands the critical role they play in their dog's transition, especially in those first crucial days of bringing them home from such difficult circumstances. Everything is new and scary to these dogs: people, houses, stairs, leashes, food bowls, collars, toys, tvs, ovens, doorways, pavement…we could go on and on. They need people around them that can move slow, be understanding, be patient, not have expectations of them, and give them all the tools they need to become happy adult dogs. The first year of a dog’s life is a crucial time in their development, physically and emotionally, so with dogs that have missed some early socialization it is crucial their families know what they are doing moving forward. With the right guidance these dogs can grow into well socialized and happy dogs, but this is not without conscious effort from their new family. We always want to make sure people are aware and up for the task of providing our dogs the life and environment they need to thrive! They will require families who will allow them the time they need to trust people, and then slowly be introduced to their new world, at their pace, using positive reinforcement. We require all our animals to be trained using positive reinforcement methods ONLY. Puppy mill dogs tend to do best in a home without young children as well (10+), though this determination is made on a case by case basis. If you are interested in being considered for them please apply on our website at www.angelsretreat.org 💕🐾

Story
hi Taffy, this good girl is a 5 year old Goldendoodle. Our volunteers went to a Lancaster commercial breeder to pick up several dogs they were getting rid off, and Taffy was the lucky "extra" passenger that we were able to take too. She is 50 lbs. Taffy is a total sweetheart. She has been nothing short of wonderful with us. She is a friendly and gentle lady that allows all handling. She has been good with all people and dogs in our care. Taffy would need to meet any resident dogs. She will come spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and 4dx tested. She came to us with missing patches of fur, suspected to be from rubbing on the cage she was kept in. That fur is now coming back in. **If you are serious about adoption, please start with the adoption application on or website www. phoenixanimalrescue.com Her adoption fee is $450** Phoenix Animal Rescue Chester Springs, PA Kennel License #5152

Hello, my name is: ArchieDOB: 02/02/2024Sex/Breed: Neutered male Retriever/Hound mix Weight: ~45 lbsRescued From: Found strayArchie and his brother, Auggie, were at large, roaming as strays for quite some time. Thankfully, some Good Samaritans were able to catch them, and they were sent to a foster home. There, they began to learn how to trust and be part of a family. Archie was shy at first, but quickly learned how kind humans are and how nice his new life is. Archie has a beautiful jet-black coat and ears reminiscent of “The Flying Nun.” He loves to chew on toys and bones, and play with his doggy pals. He has gotten along with other dogs and the cats we have introduced him to. Archie is house-trained thanks to his foster family, and is learning his manners. He is energetic, but not overly so. Archie is going to be the best friend you could ever hope for! All our pets are microchipped, spayed/neutered, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives.Interested in adopting?
