Story
Hi there! My name is Calum, and this is my story... I’m a 3-year-old Golden Retriever and weigh in at just 39 lbs. But, that’s not due to my natural build—it's a result of being severely emaciated. My last home? Let’s just say it wasn’t the best fit for me. If you take a look at my legs, it’s clear I spent far too much time in a kennel, and I’ve got the muscle wasting on my head and body to prove it. You could even count my ribs! To add insult to injury, my family decided they no longer wanted me, claiming I got a bit overstimulated when the baby cried. Instead of working with me, they thought it best to surrender me to the shelter—not so I could find a new home, but because they wanted me euthanized. Thankfully, PPFT and my loving foster family stepped in to give me a second chance. My past life was far from ideal, but I’m not dwelling on that anymore. I’m focused on the future—one filled with love, kindness, and so much fun that sometimes I hardly know what to do with myself! If I had a day job, I’d be the Chief Happiness Officer—my main tasks include showering you with love, following you around like a furry shadow, and making sure you never experience a dull moment. I mean, have you ever seen a Golden who didn’t believe they were the star of the show? Spoiler alert: it’s not possible! I thrive on playdates with my fellow canines and adore older kiddos who can handle my exuberant greetings (think excited jumping, but I promise it’s all in good fun!). Now, when it comes to my feline friends, I’m all for sharing the spotlight—just make sure they’re dog-smart and ready for my goofy enthusiasm. My idea of a perfect day includes running around, wrestling with my dog buddies, and maybe, just maybe, a Netflix binge with you once we’ve exhausted our zoomies. I’m still mastering the whole leash walking thing, so expect some zigzagging and joyful hops whenever the harness comes out—it’s my version of the doggie cha-cha! Car rides? Count me in! I’ll try my best to claim the shotgun seat, but you’ll need to buckle me in. I promise to be your co-pilot, sticking my head out the window like a furry bobblehead, grinning like I just discovered the meaning of life. Let’s talk about my house manners, shall we? I’m on a bit of a journey to become the epitome of canine etiquette—think of me as a furry work-in-progress! Right now, my manners are like a toddler in a candy store—excitable, a little messy, and definitely in need of some guidance. I mean, I’ve spent a good chunk of my life living in the crate, so being out and about in the house feels like being handed the keys to a candy factory. I can be quite energetic in the house sometimes, and it takes me a bit to settle down. It is just so new to me to be able to actually be out in the house with my family and be part of their activities. I’ve also developed a bit of a reputation as the neighborhood sock bandit. I can’t help myself; those soft, warm, and occasionally smelly treasures are simply irresistible! It’s like they’re calling my name, whispering sweet nothings about the comfort they provide. Now, about this whole potty training adventure—I’ve learned that I shouldn’t go in my kennel, but nobody ever told me I shouldn’t go in the house! I think being stuffed in the kennel was my former family's answer to everything they didn’t like. So instead of proper training, I got a crash course in “Ignore the dog and hope he magically figures out everything that was never taught to him.” But fear not! I’m on the right track and discovering that it’s way more fun to go potty outdoors, where the grass is green, and the air smells like adventure! If you are thinking that I could be the boy for you, here are some things to remember. You’re going to need a lot of love to give because I’m practically a love sponge! Expect endless cuddles, enthusiastic greetings, and more tail wags than you can count. If you’re not prepared for spontaneous snuggles while watching your favorite shows, you might want to rethink this whole thing! As a Golden Retriever, I come with a luxurious, fluffy coat that might just have people swooning. However, with that, you can expect to find my golden hair in all the nooks and crannies of your home—yes, even in your cereal if you're not careful! Lastly, as a Golden, I come equipped with an enthusiasm that could power a small city! You can expect plenty of zoomies around the house, spontaneous bursts of joy, and maybe even a few “happy dances” when it’s time to eat or go for a walk. If you like to stay active, we’ll make the perfect team! Just know that I’m not a couch potato—no sir! I’m more of a “let’s hike up a mountain and then run circles in the backyard” kind of dog. So, if you’re looking for a furry sidekick to steal your socks and your heart, I’m your guy! I’m all about tail wags, goofy antics, and endless cuddles. With me around, there will never be a dull moment—just a whole lot of laughter and love. My only request to the family that does adopt me, please let me be your "forever dog". I have already played the role of a "Until dog" and it was not a great time. I don't know if they weren't prepared or what, but I need whoever adopts me now...to be prepared. To understand that I am a lifelong commitment and while there will be ups and downs, there will also be plenty of smiles, fun, and silly antics! Meet Sunny. This shy but sweet boy is 3 or 4 years old and we think he is a Lab mix. He is a strong willed, dominant male who likes to be in charge of other male dogs. So he would do best in a home with no other animals or with dogs who are ok with getting bossed around. Sunny is now neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm Negative. He will need a loving a patient home to earn his love and trust. Sunny currently weighs 40 pounds and is $85 to adopt.
