Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! Handsome Beckett is a stunning Golden Retriever who was picked up as a stray in lower AL. He is estimated to be about 3-4 years old and is as cute as they come! Like most Golden RETRIEVERS, Beckett loves to play and retrieve toys and balls. In fact, he loves his toys so much that when presented with a treat, he has to stop and consider if he wants to drop his toy for that yummy treat! You can see how much he loves to retrieve in his video. Beckett spent some time in a foster home in the south and we have found out that he is good with both the cat and dog in the home. His foster mom shares, "He’s very curious about my cat but has not been aggressive towards her at all. She is very dog tolerant living in this foster house and Beckett gets along well with my dog. Beckett is not food aggressive and we are working on both leash walking and house-training. He is very handsome and has lots of energy." Beckett has been neutered, brought up-to-date on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and is negative for heartworm. This fella is incredibly playful and just a joy to be around!! If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, please contact Cheryl Kewley to be considered to adopt this scrumptious boy. Beckett will be ready to head north to be directly adopted in early-to-mid March. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. If not yet approved for adoption, please visit our website to learn more and to submit an online application. Click here to visit our website. Please contact us with any questions regarding your application status. PLEASE APPLY by submitting an application via this online link: Click for Adoption Application About Our Rescue Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready. The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided. Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed. Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog. Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! Picked up as a stray in Fort Payne, AL, this girl is a true gem! The director, who sees a lot of dogs come through their system, said "she is as sweet and perfect as can be, on top of being gorgeous!" This stunning beauty has such a desire to love and be loved. She loves giving kisses to her humans, is great with other dogs, but is scared of cats! Laihla knows how to "sit" and "shake" with her paw - she had to have been someone's dog and it's a shame they didn't love her enough to look for her. But fear not, sweetie pie, we at SGRR will find you a home where you will always be cherished. One of our southern volunteers shared some lovely details about Laihla, "She is extremely affectionate, sweet, and playful. She gets down on the ground and does that dog thing, you know like she wants to play-her tail wags all the time. She’s a cuddle bug too and will let me pet her and she loves that. Laihla has dark markings on her ears and they look like they’ve been dipped in paint. Her personality is warm and she’s very eager to play with a toy" as you can see in Laihla's video. We believe Laihla may be a Golden Retriever/Husky mix with her beautiful, plush coat and stunning markings. She is 45 pounds, and is estimated to be around 1 year old. Laihla is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and micro-chipped. She has been given a Proheart-6 injection for 6 months of heartworm prevention. Laihla will be ready to come north in early-to-mid March for direct adoption. Rescued dogs come with a range of needs - from behavioral to emotional to medical. When approved applicants adopt such dogs, they agree to become an important, forever part of their life journey by continuing the rehabilitation we have begun. Story
I have an Adoption Pending but hope you will consider one of our other dogs in need. Thank you! Named after the Biblical character from the book of Daniel, Shadrach is ready to meet his new family! Found roaming in a small town in Alabama, he was brought to the local vet's office by kind neighbors who were able to corral Shaddy. Thinking someone must be missing the wonderfully sweet boy, the office tried desperately to find his owner to no avail. Don't worry, little buddy, we at SGRR will find you a loving forever home! Shadrach has the face of a purebred Golden Retriever. In fact, when we were sent pictures of this boy, we had to ask, "Is that the same dog?" What makes this cutie pie a real show-stopper are those adorable Basset Hound style of legs! Seriously, could he be any cuter? Shaddy is estimated to be about 2 years old. He is full grown and weighs about 45 lbs. He loves to run around and play. He would do well with a physically fenced yard or in a home where he would get nice long walks. He walks pretty well on a leash and rides nicely in the car. Shaddy keeps his kennel clean, a good sign that he is house-broken, and doesn't tear up his bedding or toys. This low-rider is good with other dogs but has no known history with cats. Mostly, Shaddy loves his humans and cannot wait to go home!! Shaddy is microchipped, neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations. He has been treated for heartworm and received a Proheart 6 injection so he will not need any additional heartworm preventative for 6 months. He will be headed north from AL in mid-to-late March to be directly adopted. If you are approved to adopt through SGRR, are home most of the day, and have a somewhat active life-style, and a sense of humor, please contact Cheryl Kewley to be considered to adopt this wonderful fellow.
