Sadie is a 1 year old, female Golden mix weighing at about 40lbs. (We apologize for the picture as we are working on new ones!) She was surrendered to GRRAND as she was taken in by an older couple in their 70's and they said she needs more exercise and activity than they can offer her. They told GRRAND "Sadie goes to the neighbors to play with their dogs. We took this dog as a favor of a friend and we are both in our middle 70’s and not able to give her what she needs. She is a friendly good girl but we don’t like putting her on a chain or always having to crate her, as we do not have a fenced in yard, and we feel she needs one." Sam is a 1 year and 11 month old, female Golden Retriever. She will be 2 in Feb, weighs at about 75ish lbs, and is a pure beauty. She was surrendered to GRRAND as her people are having a baby and felt she was too active and had too much energy to be around a baby. We are told she is crate-trained and good around other dogs. we are told "She does still chew things randomly so she isn’t trusted to roam free alone. She might have a couple of accidents when excited (playing with new dog friends inside, new environment). Leash training one day she’s amazing the next she’s pulling. She has a history of chasing cats but has never tried to hurt them in anyway. She has a Yorkie sibling so she does great with smaller dogs when introduced properly and she’s given time to get the jitters out. She genuinely loves every person and animal she’s ever met." As she is still basically a puppy with lots of energy, Sam will need an active family who has the time and patience to give her the exercise and direction she needs to be a good dog. Jet is a 4 month old male Golden/Shepherd mix (mother was a Golden, father was a German Shepherd) at about 20lbs right now. He is sadly being surrendered by his family as they feel he needs more training and work on his resource guarding tendencies and fears. They say "As a four-month-old puppy, he is not aggressive but does show fearfulness around strangers and other dogs. I have been actively working on counter-conditioning to help him feel more comfortable. While we’ve socialized him well to minimize this behavior, it’s still a work in progress. Thankfully, he is young and has plenty of potential for improvement with continued effort. If we didn’t have children or frequent interactions with other young kids, I would feel more confident continuing to work on these behaviors. His resource guarding is well-managed, but it is a tendency he has displayed. He is such a sweet and loving boy, and this decision is heartbreaking for me. While he adores our family, I am concerned about some of the behavioral tendencies he has shown. I want to find him a home that better fits his needs while he is still young." His new family will need to have the time and patience to provide Jet with the exercise and direction he needs to work on his behaviors. Bessi is a 5 year old, about 50ish lb, female Golden Retriever who is looking for a laid back home that is willing to help her get through her heartworm treatment. Bessi is dealing with some anxiety issues ansd will need someone who is home more than not, as she needs to overcome some fears. She is said to be good with other dogs, but not with cats. Our volunteer who helped to transport Bessi says "I just spent a few hours with Bessi transporting her to GRRAND. Bessi is the sweetest dog as she just wants to snuggle and sit near you. She rode just fine in the crate in the car. Bessi is underweight and is treat motivated and definitely a flight risk because she is timid and shy, however she really likes people, so she will need a secure above ground fenced yard to help keep her safe. I was told by the person who I picked her up from, that she gets very upset to hear raised voices, thunder or various loud noises. It seems Bessi needs a quiet, calm home with older folks that have 1 or 2 other quiet, calm dogs...and with people who are home a lot and will work with her so she knows she is safe and that the world can be good to her. It was a great way for me to spend an afternoon with such a sweet girl! She is stunningly beautiful and hope she finds her forever family soon!" She is crate trained and is said to find that as her "safe place". We arre unsure of her past, but we know she will need a patient family who is willing to help her work through her insecurities. Since she is heartworm positive, her home will need to be laid back and relatively calm as she needs to stay calm during her treatments. Blondie is a senior gal rescued from a neglectful owner, she is 13 and as would be expected has some arthritis issues. She was with 60% hair loss and inflamed skin due to fleas, emaciated, and noted to have cracked, worn down, broken teeth in the very front upper and lower, wounds to the pads on her front paws that our vet states indicates trying to dig in or out of something. She is slowly gaining weight on a prescription diet and her fur is starting to grow back. She would be special needs in that she is a very senior gal.
