G'day. In one case it was because of the health issues of the adopter, in the other it was because the caregivers were not in a position to help her to become better acquainted with other neighborhood dogs. When she doesn't know another dog, she greatly wants to reach out to play and connect so a calm set of limits by her adopter will help her to also remain calm. Her recent adopters have said the following about Dorie..."She is so loving and kind and affectionate with us and with all humans it's impossible not to fall in love with her." Her other caregivers said that if you love being greeted at the door every time you come home with a smiling, tail-wagging dog with the biggest paws on the block, then please meet Dorie. This sweet, playful Golden Retriever/Lab cross loves spending time lounging around the house and having a spot to sleep in every room. She loves playing with tennis balls and durable stuffies. Dorie is an independent girl who can keep herself entertained with toys and puzzles, but would also benefit from having a playful friend around the neighbourhood to help her socialize more. She has played with several other dogs near one of her Canadian homes and she was a marvelous pack member, getting along with everyone. She is smart, and understands some basic commands (sit, lay down, shake a paw.) We have been working on recall and she does well on leash until she sees another dog on leash, at which time she may pull on the leash, trying to get free to play with that dog. Calm but firm limits set by her human usually result in her settling. One thing that helps is a couple of good walks daily as she has a fairly high energy level and greatly enjoys exploring the world, particularly nature. Having a strong prey drive, Dorie will chase after small animals (including cats). So a household devoid of a cat or other small animals (including teacup-sized dogs) is best. Dorie has been friendly meeting children, but has not been with them for any extended amount of time. She does well with women and recently with men also and has made some dog friends around the neighbourhood. There are some days where she will bark at other dogs, as well some men, but she is able to be redirected with consistent limits.  Dorie would do better in a home with a yard where she could relax. Her preference is for shorter walks, and her recall is getting better. She hasn’t wanted to try swimming yet, but has been out on a paddle board several times. Dorie loves food, treats, and jumping into the water to play. She sleeps well through the night, and sometimes even snores after a busy day! Once Dorie gets the zoomies, prepare for the cutest dog show ever. She would do well in a home that would allow her outdoor time, but also time to relax indoors. HISTORY: Hiya guys! I did some major sneaky work and ran away from the city officials into my rescuer’s father’s yard. Lucky for me, he had left the door open to take out the trash. I ran into his yard and hid in a box until I was found by my rescuer's dad. I was so lucky to end up in his yard. The stars have aligned for me to have the opportunity to go to Canada. It was fate! When I was found, a frightened puppy, Ella (also posted) was with me (but she was not mine), and thus we were rescued together. Come to find out we are half sisters. Taylor sleeps on a small sofa, whils they give me a blanket to sleep on the floor, because I pull the stuffing out of dog beds and cushions. I likely do this either because I am still in my puppy stage, or it could be in reaction to the overcrowded environment at the refuge. Iimagine time in a relaxed home of my own will end up alleviating that.While a bit timid yet, I am playful with Taylor and small or older dogs, though occasionally I will nip at a smaller dog. Luna is an approximately 1.5-year-old golden retriever mix with a heartbreaking past, but an unyielding spirit. Luna's life began on the streets as a stray. At some point, she became a mother to a litter of puppies. Tragically, while her puppies were still very young, Luna was struck by a car, leaving her hind legs paralyzed and struggling to survive. A local resident noticed Luna dragging herself through the streets to find food for herself and her puppies. Soon after, Luna was rescued along with her puppies. However, due to limited resources, Luna eventually found her way to Baibao Rescue, where we've been committed to providing her with the care and attention she deserves. Through diligent rehabilitation in the last few months, Luna has shown impressive progress. Though her gait remains unsteady, she can now bear weight on her back legs and walk independently. While incontinence remains an issue, she has also made significant progress. She currently wears a diaper but we believe that with the right owner, she can further improve. Luna is a loving and friendly dog, despite her tragic past. Her playful curiosity brings joy to every day, as she explores her surroundings with newfound happiness. She gets along well with both cats and dogs. Luna loves to eat but kind of goes crazy over food and eats too quickly, understandable given her background but it's something prospective owners will need to keep in mind. Luna would not be suitable for a household with dogs that are food-protective. However, Luna's interest in food will make training her much easier. The man who kept me there would often leave me alone. One day, a neighbouring lady heard my whimpers as she was passing by and found me in my sad state. Neglected and malnourished, it was hard for me to even stand up to greet her.As a dog owner herself, she felt compelled to help me, and began bringing me food. With her kindness, she quickly earned my trust. I guess I earned a spot in her heart too, because she found the owner of the building and advocated for my release from the “doggy jail” I was being kept in.  She brought me to the dog shelter I've been living in for about 9 months (since Oct 2023). Now thriving with care, I know there's more out there for me. My rescuer named me Princess because while I make friends easily (canine and human alike), I prefer to eat my meals alone, please and thank you.
