Story
Meet Tex, a 5yr old miniature schnauzer. Tex had a great start in life, but sadly, due to an unfortunate series of events, he ended up being afraid of being groomed, and suffered years of neglect. Luckily for Tex, his vet knew him to be the wonderful dog he is and reached out to us to see if we could help him. So here he is. Tex and is a typical Schnauzer, he's intense! Completely devoted to his people, he is brilliant in the house, has wonderful manners, is extremely bonded and devoted to his person. Very snuggly and cuddly and wants to be right with his human if they are around . LOVES car rides, if the door is opened, he's jumping in! He's good with strangers, loves to check them out and make sure they're ok, but doesn't show his affectionate wiggly, hilarious side until you've at least given him a couple of treats!! Tex is good with respectful children, but doesnt like to be picked up. He's great with other dogs but would prefer a home where he gets all the attention!! If there are other dogs in the home, they need to be lower energy, easy going personalities or Tex will feel the need to keep them all organized and under control!! Lol Tex is very nervous of being groomed and having his nails done, he especially doesnt like his feet touched. For now, he will need mild sedation, a muzzle and an experienced handler to groom or trim his nails. His current foster (who adores him) will happily offer her services to do this for him until he gets more confidence in being groomed and having his nails trimmed. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. PetConnect Rescue cannot guarantee the exact breed of any animal in our care. The breed listed is based on any background we may have been provided, and the general appearance of the animal at the time they enter our system. DISCLOSURE: The adoptable pets in our program are still in the care and custody of owners who wish to re-home their pet. Owners have enlisted Rescue Well to provide marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting.  ***** Handsome Baker is 4yo, weighs 90lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, and is microchipped.   Baker's guardian adds:  He's a snuggler and loves being by me and being loved on.  He's usually good with other dogs; we have a mini yorkipoo who rules him; he's never hurt him and will let the little one dominate him while playing.  Baker knows 'sit', 'paw', 'come'-but stubborn, 'drop it'-something in mouth he should not have, but playfully keeps toys, 'leave it'-something he should never have or placing his nose to smell such as on counters and kid toys.  Baker has free range of the home during the day since my husband works from home and sleeps on his dog bed next to our bed at night; also, Baker is great during car rides.  I'm so worried he will turn and bite the kids now for all the different reasons that day he's off.  He seems to get worse as he gets older." Baker's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "Reactive tendencies, food aggressive, growls if go near during his feeding, doesn’t like his collar pulled, but ok on leash.  He was rejected by groomer for aggression so I have been grooming him myself the last few years with no problems from him.  This is such a difficult thing for us, crying and trying to make the right decision.  We have tried in home trainer in past but she wasn’t much help. She said he was a herding dog and is stubborn."   Bite/scratch/lunge/attack incidents:  On approximately 12 April 2024, Baker bit his male guardian and the veterinarian; the bites broke the skin, medical attention was unwarranted, and animal control was not involved.  Baker's guardian explains the circumstances:   "Vet-Recently bit our vet, when he came into the room, Baker deep growled at him, so he came back with treats and seemed more accepting until the vet tried to look in his ear as he was eating his treat, and reacted and jumped and bit his hand. Husband-Recently bit our husband for trying to take something out of his mouth, if you say drop it sternly he will but he just tried to take it and got punctured several times on his hand, we have 3 kids and don’t want to chance this happening to them." Baker's guardian states the following regarding children:  Baker lives with children (ages, 7, 9, and 11), but his guardian doesn't recommend his living with children, stating "When they play, he runs with them, but then starts to nip at ankles and tries to wrap his legs around them". Baker's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Baker lives with a dog, so his guardian recommends his living with smaller dogs, stating "He plays with him.  He seems to like smaller dogs". Baker's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Since Baker hasn't lived with or otherwise been around cats, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats. Baker's guardian describes him as: Very active Couch potato Barks alot Friendly Likes to be touched Affectionate Independent Protective Always at your side Indoor dog Outdoor dog House-Trained Likes men Likes women Separation anxiety Baker's guardian describes his ideal future home: "Baker is accustomed to (my husband) a remote worker, someone who is able to be consistent with commands and has patience to train him and be consistent. An additional small dog a plus.  Would probably benefit from a fenced-in yard or a farm." Rehoming Fee:  None Location:  Columbia Station, OH (Guardians will transport Baker for meet and greet/home visit with prospective adopter if interviewed and seriously considered.)***** ADOPTION PROCESS  1.
