Story
Meet Myrtle! Looking for a sweet spunky addition to your family? Come meet Myrtle! This little shy girl would be a great addition to a family who has another dog to help her gain her confidence! Myrtle is a sweet girl who has lots of energy once she has warmed up and would love to show that side of herself to a new family! Myrtle has shown us how well and far she can walk, how well she can play, and how loving she can be and has quickly become a staff and volunteer favorite. Myrtle has made lots of friends here at the shelter, but she would love to make friends with you! Myrtle recently participated in our Doggy Day Out program and here's what the volunteer had to say: "Myrtle is such a cute, friendly and timid girl. Her scruffy coat and dark eyes make her look like a younger puppy! She walks well and is very playful with the other dogs at the shelter. She has been to a few adoption events and has done well. After some prodding she was very happy to get outside and wanted to run around immediately. She was apprehensive about riding in the car but after lifting her in she was a good girl. We took her to a local dog friendly establishment where she was a bit timid at first. Once out with other dogs we immediately saw her personality change. She was attentive and eager to meet the other dogs, and her tail wagged a bit, this perked her up for our walk. After the walk we took her inside where she was a bit timid about coming inside but after some reassurance, she came in to explore a bit. After settling in and becoming comfortable sniffing around she wanted to go back outside. You could see she is happiest outside playing a bit and being around other dogs. After becoming more comfortable she greeted people a bit hesitantly who wanted to meet her and eventually just wanted to lay down with me in the woods along the perimeter. She took her treats very gently but can be picky and if she is being timid she will not eat the treat. Myrtle was such a good girl out in public and by gaining some more confidence her true personality will shine through. Once she is comfortable, she seems to like a quiet environment, however, she walked the entire SeaWitch parade all on her own! With some reassurance and warming up to her person she will become the best dog she can be. Her loving, timid, and goofy personality will warm your heart!" If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire! Our adoption process is on a first-come, best-match basis and we are not able to hold animals. If you are interested in this specific dog but it ends up not being the best fit upon meeting, our adoption counselors will work with you to help find a match! All household members, including children and other dogs, must come along for the meeting to make sure it's a good fit. If a match is made, we encourage same-day adoptions! Our adoption fees include the animals' spay/neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and preventatives, fecal testing, heartworm testing, and a small bag of food to get you started.
