Story
Here is what Duke’s foster family says about him:   Duke is such a sweet boy, and I know that sounds like a cliché, but it’s totally true!   He’s super eager to learn and please, and he’s food-motivated, so the training we’ve been doing, like sitting and waiting for food and recall, has been going great! Although he’s food-motivated and always sniffing and looking for something to grab, like in the kitchen or on a walk, he doesn’t bother his foster brother, Jed, while he’s eating. He lets Jed finish before going over to make sure he got everything.   We’ve never seen Duke counter surf or even try it.   Duke seems really smart. He knows his name, recall is in progress, and I can see him picking up on what Jed is doing and understanding that’s what he’s supposed to do too. He gets a little jumpy when he’s excited, but we’re working on that, and he usually corrects himself right away after a ‘no’. He’s probably the easiest GSP I’ve ever walked on a leash. He understands when we get to the end of his leash, to let up, and not pull. When we encounter another dog or person on a walk, Duke is super curious and wants to say hi, but we’re working on that too.   Duke loves his ball! He loves to play fetch in general, but he absolutely loves his ball:)! Chasing after his ball is the only time I think I’ve seen him run almost full speed. He’s starting to play with Jed more, but he plays with the cat more. All three of them get along pretty well. I think Duke would do well with or without another dog at home. He loves to be the center of attention and get all the cuddles, but as I said earlier, he does look to Jed for cues at times.   He seems to do well in the car. He whines a little at first but settles in.   He gets excited and barks at other people and dogs as they walk by when he’s in the yard. Likewise with visitors, he barks and hoops a lot, but he settles down right away and is good with meeting people.   Over time, I’ve noticed Duke’s personality shining through more and more. This is still a new experience for him, so there’s some uncertainty, but as he’s been coming out of his comfort zone, he’s been more playful, bouncing around, and feeling more at ease on his own. He’s also staying put when people come and go from the room.   ##2237831##

Story
Meet Riley! This sweet and sassy 3-year-old pup is looking for a loving forever home. She is a playful and affectionate companion who loves to eat, play with squeak toys, and have a good game of tug-of-war. Riley is also crate-trained, which makes house training and travel a breeze. She's also good with other dogs and enjoys playing with them! While Riley has a big personality, she also has a sensitive side. She is currently being successfully managed with medication for idiopathic epilepsy, which requires twice-daily administration. This is easily done with a pill pocket or mixed in with food. She is doing wonderfully on this medication. This little lady has a secret passion for paper products – think of it as her own personal shredding service! But fear not, she's easily convinced to trade paper for pets and play. Riley is looking for a family who can provide her with: Lots of love and attention A safe and comfortable home Consistent medication administration (twice daily) Daily exercise and playtime If you're looking for a loyal and loving companion with a touch of sass, Riley might be the perfect addition to your family!  ##2178031##

Story
Lily is a sweet 6-year-old German Shorthair Pointer mix who has found herself at a shelter after the death of her owner. She loves water, fetch, and squeaky toys. Lily is a strong girl with plenty of energy. She would make a great running partner once she has a little help with her leash manners. This girl is so athletic that she has been known to jump some fences. We recommend a 5-6 foot fence if your yard is fenced in. WGSPR was told she had some resource guarding with food/toys/space around other dogs. We sent her to a trainer to work on her basic obedience and to assess her for resource guarding with other dogs.  The trainer has not seen any resource guarding with people or dogs. She has been very neutral with other dogs.  The trainers have had no issues taking toys from her.   Lily has a high prey drive because that is what her breed is known for, and she would love to put it to good use and hunt with you. Lily is still with the trainer and any approved adopter will go meet her at the trainer's facility.  The trainer will assist in picking a family for Lily that meets her needs. This girl is ready to find her new forever family. ##2215847##

Story
Myra is a fun loving, snuggler looking for a family willing to let her hangout with you on furniture. She loves to snuggle and lay right next to you. She does have experience withother dogs in the home and does fine. She also has been carried around for weeks by young children in her foster home. She has been going back and forth to work with her foster mom due to a dog in the home needing a break from the puppies. So Myra has been going to a therapy environment 3-4days per week for 8-10 hours a day. In this environment she has learned how to help comfort humans during difficult emotions. She also has been learning how to socialize witha number of people of a variety of age groups. She would be good in this environment if needed but she is not formally trained as an emotional support animal. During thisenvironment she barked literally once and was told not to bark. Since then, she does not bark or whine in this environment. She is very quiet and calm as well due to this environment. While in this work environment she did get exposed to a number of loud noises due to the emergency services being located nearby. She was initially scared of the sounds but thenbecame accustomed to them. Myra is super eager to learn and please, and she’s treat-motivated (but not food motivated as much), so the training we’ve been doing, like sitting and waiting for food and recall, hasbeen going great! She takes the treats nicely from adults and children. She likes to lay down and slowly eat her food like a lady. She will eat around fingers, very gently. Myra seems really smart. She knows her name, recall is in progress. She is learning how to behave based on cues in the environment like other dogs or sitting when she doesn't knowexactly what we are asking of her but she knows we have a treat in hand. She knows the words leave it when she picks something up she isn't supposed to. When greeting newpeople she walks right up and licks their hand but doesn't jump often and will drop down immediately. She also doesn't pull on the leash and seems to know when she is pulling veryquickly. She is hesitant on walks by herself but is learning quickly as she learns the environment. She just loves to play with other dogs. She really enjoys rough housing with the dogs that are three times her size and her brother. Myra likes playing ball but is working on retrievingthe ball. She also enjoys hunting/tracking smells on the ground. She enjoys working her nose with her snuffle mat. She has ridden in a car kennel a lot. She did get her toe nail caught in one of the doors while being transferred which makes her at times hesitant to get into the kennel but once you pickher up and put her in the kennel she is quiet. She is crate trained and with a blanket on the top of the kennel means quiet time. She won’t bark unless she can see you or at night if she needs to poop or you slept past her feeding time in the morning. She sleeps through the night unless she has to poop. Her current bedtime is from 9pm-5am. She then wakes up and eats her first meal at 5am and second at 5pm. She does not like going to the bathroom by herself at night, during the day she doesn’t mind. She is also scared of flights of stairs going down. She does know how to do 2-3 stairs inand out of a building. Myra along with her mom and 4 littermates were found as strays and taken to a humane society prior to coming into WGSPR.  NOTE: We will not adopt Milton and Myra to the same household.  ##2274575##

Story
Milton is a snuggler and can never get enough attention. He loves laying in people’s laps every chance he can. He thinks he is a lap dog. He is very quiet and rarely makes a peep. He doesn’t bark and if he does it is a very rare exception. Milton has been going back and forth to work with his foster mom due to a dog in the home needing a break from the puppies being in his space. So Milton has been going to a therapy environment 3-4 days per week for 8-10 hours a day. In this environment he has learned how to help comfort humans during difficult emotions. He also has been learning how to socialize with a number of people of a variety of age groups. He would be good in this environment if needed but he is not formally trained as an emotional support animal. It should be noted he doesn’t bark or whine. He is very quiet and goes with the flow as long as he can snuggle. He is very quiet and calm as well due to this environment. He did well in this environment and could in the future. He absolutely thrived in this environment as he was able to meet a lot of new people and really seemed to like to socialize with other humans and get extra snuggles. While in this work environment he did get exposed to a number of loud noises due to the emergency services being located nearby. He was initially scared but overtime it didn’t bother him as he became accustomed to the noises. He’s super eager to learn and please, and he’s food-motivated, so the training we’ve been doing, like sitting and waiting for food and he has been going great! He takes the treats nicely from adults and children. He will eat around fingers, very gently. He might benefit from a slow feeding bowl as he is a fast eater with his food. Milton seems really smart. He knows his name but prefers to be called  “Miltie”. He is learning how to behave based on cues in the environment like other dogs. He is a bit more confident than his sister when he is alone. He does know how to sit and he knows the words “leave” and “down”. He is so excited when meeting people he will walk up to them the first time but to beat his sister he will jump up. He is working on this because he is just so excited to meet someone new. He also does pull on the leash but is working on this as well. Most of the time he is pulling to meet new people because he loves attention. He just loves to play with other dogs. He really enjoys rough housing with the dogs. Milton likes playing ball but is working on retrieving the ball. He really enjoys playing ball and can at times try to protect it. He enjoys working his nose with his snuffle mat. He is quiet when he rides in the car and enjoys going for trips. He does travel by kennel in the back of the car. He is crate trained that a blanket on the top of the kennel means quiet time. He won’t bark unless he needs to poop at night. He sleeps through the night which is from 9pm-5am. We also learned he is not as big of a fan of adventure as his sister is and would prefer to stay warm inside versus the cold weather. He also tends to pick a favorite person to snuggle with and will be a traditional pointer and follow them around. Milton along with his mom and 4 littermates were found as strays and taken to a humane society prior to coming into WGSPR.  NOTE: We will not adopt Milton and Myra to the same household.  ##2281348##

Story
Marley is the sweetest girl. She loves to cuddle with you and take naps. When she first came to us she was timid and shy. The poor girl wasn’t sure of anything and would scare easily. However, as the days go on she is coming out of her shell and we are seeing more of her personality. She always wants to be with our two other GSPs and she loves playing with them. She is learning how to play ruff and wrestle with them. She is more on the submissive side. She learns fast though and is respectful of them. When her two foster siblings are done playing they let her know and she is fine going off and laying on her bed to chew her kong. She LOVES her kong, especially if you put some treats or peanut butter in it. She appears to be food and treat motivated so we have been using treats to work on manners / training. She hasn’t been much of a barker but occasionally she discovers her voice and then likes to let out a few barks. She makes the cutest noise when she yawns. She is doing great on potty training. She sleeps in her kennel at night and usually goes to bed around nine. She is usually good for 6 hours and then will whine if she needs to go outside. Then she goes right back in her kennel and sleeps until 7. She is learning to stand in front of the back door when she needs to go out. She occasionally gets too busy playing and forgets and has an accident but they are becoming less and less. She would do great in any type of home. She does great with our kids. It might take her awhile to warm up to new people but once she does she is the biggest lover. She is more confident when she is with our dogs so another dog in the home would be great!  ##2281350##
