Shelly is a 2-year-old, 61 lb Pointer mix who, despite the many changes in her life, remains an affectionate and sweet girl, quickly becoming a volunteer favorite due to her friendly temperament and personality. She is looking for a patient family who can offer plenty of love, treats, and a gradual introduction to an active and social life. Shelly's athletic nature and eagerness to please make her an excellent candidate for training classes and dog sports. She gets along well with other dogs, seeking affection in a gentle, non-pushy manner. Given her Pointer heritage, once Shelly is settled into her new home, she'll be an energetic and alert family companion who thrives on exercise and mental stimulation, yet can settle down nicely after activities. Shelly loves walks and hikes, enjoying the opportunity to explore at her own pace. She is ready for her forever home and is available to foster or adopt. Here is what Shelly's fosters had to say about her: "She take a little bit of time to warm up and trust you (for me and my kids this was a day or so, for my husband a bit longer) but she is incredibly sweet and wants to cuddle. She was fantastic with my boys - ages 8 and 11 - and really loved them too. We would crate her at night and when we left the house and she was a little hesitant to go into the crate (treats helped a lot!) but was fine once in there. She'd sleep through the night without a peep. Although she's strong, she doesn't pull on walks unless she sees a squirrel or something. She loves hiking and being in the outdoors so would be great for an active family. She is nervous getting into vehicles. I had to pick her up to get her in the car. But once she's in the car, she's quite good. We took her up to Tahoe with us and she did great on the back of our sub with our other dogs. She's about 90% potty trained. She wants to go outside but doesn't have the best cues to tell you she needs to go. She'll stand at the door but she doesn't bark or anything. Overall, she's a great snuggly dog who just wants to be loved. She needs a little extra time to warm up but is so great in so many ways."

This big boy is friendly and full of love. Kev is always happy to see and meet new people, making friends easily. His affection and willingness to listen mean he’s by your side (sometimes even leaning or laying on you) whenever given the chance! Kev has the energy you would expect of a young GSP and will benefit from lots of running and exercise to help him burn off the energy and learn to settle. He’s been known to jump or scale a fence, so secure fencing is crucial. He is active and at times doesn’t realize his size. Once he’s settled, he’s quiet and gentle. Despite his illness, Frodo remains as spirited and sweet as ever, finding joy in every moment spent with his foster parents. One of Frodo’s favorite pastimes is playing “Find it,” a game where he gleefully searches for hidden treasures (aka treats) with unmatched determination. Poppy is an adorable young pup who came into rescue with an injured leg. We didn’t know the extent of the injury – would she need surgery? Would she possibly lose the leg? Would the leg recover? Poppy had a consultation with the orthopedic surgeon, and the outlook is good! It’s the type of injury that might heal without surgery, so the plan is 6 weeks of strict rest, and then reassess. If things are on track, no surgery. If the leg is not healing properly, then we’ll move forward with surgery, which is estimated at $8,500 to $9,900, and 10 weeks of cage rest. We’ll know in early October if Poppy will need surgery. Keep your fingers and paws crossed for Poppy! Story

Butterscotch definitely lives up to her name because she is sweet as can be! While shy at first meeting, she warms up and loves to come sit in her person's lap and absolutely adores belly rubs. She can be friendly with other dogs but is not a social butterfly. She is truly a people person and might prefer living as an only dog! Sweet Butterscotch already is potty trained, sleeps through the whole night, rarely barks and has shown no separation anxiety. She can however become overstimulated in an urban environment and would do best in a quiet (but active) home. Once Butterscotch warms up, she is super playful. She does have herding tendencies in her play, which means she can be mouthy. Butterscotch would do best in a home in a quieter environment, and ideally in a place where she can have room to play and get lots of exercise. She is the perfect travel sized dog coming in at around 20 pounds. This poor girl has had a bit of a ruff start to life so she first comes across a little timid and skittish, but once she comes out of her shell she is a complete sweetheart!

One of our veteran foster families spent some time with Luna 2 recently and let us know all about their time with this great gal! "Luna was an absolute delight! She was very well behaved on the leash, energetic but not a puller unless squirrels dash by. Luna is mellow even when other dogs are barking at her. She was happy to chase balls in our backyard and enjoyed taking naps in the sun. She also loved a good chew toy and some tummy rubs. Luna is a very quiet dog - I don't believe we ever heard her bark. She seems comfortable with some alone time, and she waited patiently for us to greet her in the morning after we slept in a different part of the house. She also travels well in a car. Luna is a big, athletic dog, and it is clear that she is still young and can get mouthy and jump up when playing or roughhousing, but she responds well when corrected. She can sit, lie down, and shake hands on command. Luna is a bright, beautiful, curious, sweet, and fun loving dog. Luna would benefit from more exposure to a variety of people as she seems a bit cautious about interacting with new people and is also protective of her existing relationships. Having said that, she took quickly to us and we fell in love with her over the weekend."
