Story
Meet Dee, the GSP (German Shorthaired Pointer)! This guy came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after his previous guardians were unable to continue caring for him. He has lived in a home with children under 12 years old, teens, men, women and seniors. He lived outdoors entirely in his previous home but is starting to realize the comforts of indoor living (hello plush beds!). Adopters will have to be patient in the transition as he may take a bit of time to get the hang of living indoors. Dee’s favorite activities in his previous home are running around and rolling in grass. When out with volunteers at the Shelter – Dee has enjoyed sniffing around the Shelter grounds and exploring. Dee has met dogs at the Shelter and has solicited play. A home with a resident canine may be a fit provided they meet at the Shelter before adoption. Dee knows “sit” and “shake”. According to the previous guardian, Dee had experience with cats and rabbits previously. A home with other animals may be a fit after a slow introduction and management.Come on in to meet your new BFF today at 1001 Rodriguez Street, Santa Cruz from 11-6pm. All adoptions are first come, first serve in person at the Shelter, and must be completed before 4:45pm.Dee`s adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor!

Story
Meet our pint-sized dynamo Gideon, at 7 years young he is the master of finding snug spots, even if it means claiming the tiniest corner of the room. You’ll often catch him cozying up in armchairs, making himself at home in the most adorable fashion and he is a true cuddle bug. Despite the occasional spillage, in true GSP fashion, from his water bowl, he’s tidy for a furry friend. Now, onto his latest escapade – the spin! Picture this: he’s giving it his all, twirling around with enthusiasm, mastering the art of the spin about half the time. It’s a work in progress, but oh-so-endearing to witness his determination. But wait, there’s more! Gideon is making strides in independence, willingly trotting into his crate, even with his trusted human out of sight. He also lets his human know when it’s time to head outside for his potty break. When it comes to outdoor adventures, he’s becoming quite the explorer. His recall is improving by leaps and bounds, and he’s gaining confidence in the backyard, especially with a watchful eye nearby. With each passing day, his outdoor excursions are extending, from a mere five minutes to a solid half-hour of supervised playtime. Yet, amidst all these triumphs, one thing remains unchanged – his vocal nature. This little chatterbox has a lot to say and isn’t shy about letting everyone know. But hey, who can blame him for wanting to share his thoughts with the world? If Gideon seems like he could fit into your life and family, please apply to adopt him today! He’s ready to make you very happy! Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Gideon's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Stix is here to wag his tail straight into your heart! He is a 10-month-old bursting with energy and excitement for life! If you’re into long walks filled with exploration and laughter, then you are a paw-some match. Whenever he sees other dogs, he gets super excited because he believes every furry friend is a potential playmate! He is crate-trained and absolutely adores car rides. There’s something about sticking his head out the window and feeling the wind on his fur that makes him feel like the luckiest pup in the world. He also is not shy about showing his affection – cuddle sessions are his specialty! He does need a little extra guidance in the potty department and honing his general learning skills. He is a puppy at heart, eager to learn and grow alongside a loving forever home. He thrives best in a home where he can be the center of attention, so no other dogs, please. And while we don’t know how much of a big fan of kids he will be, we think he would do best in a home with teens and above who can keep up with his boundless energy. So, what do you say? Are you ready to embark on the greatest adventure of all – the journey of companionship and unconditional love with STIX by your side? If so, let’s schedule a meet-and-greet and see if we’re a perfect match! Looking forward to the possibility of becoming your forever furry friend. Story
This big boy is friendly and full of love. Kev is always happy to see and meet new people, making friends easily. His affection and willingness to listen mean he’s by your side (sometimes even leaning or laying on you) whenever given the chance! Kev has the energy you would expect of a young GSP and will benefit from lots of running and exercise to help him burn off the energy and learn to settle. He’s been known to jump or scale a fence, so secure fencing is crucial. He is active and at times doesn’t realize his size. Once he’s settled, he’s quiet and gentle. It’s the ideal time to perfect the cues he’s learning like down, stay, and shake. Kev is looking for a home that will continue his training and exercise him well. He’ll benefit from structure and a regular routine. If you have other dogs in the home, let’s talk more about how Kev can best integrate with your crew. He is unaware of dog social cues and his play style (combined with his size) can be a bit much for some dogs! Kev is available on a foster-to-adopt basis so we can support you during the transition to your home. Story
Meet Frodo, the most lovable wiggly friend you’ll ever meet! This adorable pup is not just any ordinary dog; he’s a true champion at heart, with a boundless love for cuddles and an insatiable zest for life. Frodo’s wagging tail and infectious enthusiasm light up every room he enters. But behind that wagging tail lies a challenge that Frodo needs your help to overcome. Sadly, Frodo has been diagnosed with heartworms, a serious condition that requires extensive treatment to ensure his well-being. Despite his illness, Frodo remains as spirited and sweet as ever, finding joy in every moment spent with his foster parents. One of Frodo’s favorite pastimes is playing “Find it,” a game where he gleefully searches for hidden treasures (aka treats) with unmatched determination. His joy is contagious, spreading smiles wherever he goes. However, his battle with heartworms threatens to dampen his spirits. NorCal GSP Rescue is doing everything we can to ensure he receives the care he needs, but the cost of his treatment is daunting. That’s why we’re reaching out to our community for support. With your generous contributions, we can give Frodo the chance he deserves to continue spreading happiness and tail wags for years to come. Every dollar counts in Frodo’s fight against heartworms. Frodo’s estimate for heartworm treatment is $1,653, not including the medications (doxycycline and prednisone) that are part of his protocol. Thank you! Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Frodo's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs.
