Only 3 months old and approximately 14 pounds, Nutmeg, one of our "Spice Boys" is ready for his forever family! He is very sweet, playful and smart. Living in a foster home working on house, crate and leash traing! His ideal home will have an owner home more than not, another playful dog and a fenced yard. To meet Nutmeg in person visit us at www.dsda.org/adopt and submit our online adoption application. * Adoption Fees: Puppies (12 months and under) - $325 Dogs (over 12 months) - $275 Qualifications for Adoption: No dog is alike and each dog has different requirements based on breed, age, energy level and life experiences. DSDA is very careful to place our dogs in homes that we believe are the best fit for the dog based on our experience with each dog. All of our dogs live in foster homes which allows us the opportunity to learn about their individual needs. Must be home more than not. Vet checks are required! All resident pets in the applicant's home MUST be spayed or neutered, core vaccines up to date and dogs on heartworm prevention to be considered! No exceptions. Must be 21 years or older with identification showing present address. Must have the knowledge and consent of all adults living in the household. Must receive proof of pet deposit and lease allowing pets if renting. Willingness and capacity to spend the time and money necessary to provide training, medical treatment and responsible care for a pet. All poisonous plants must be removed from the yard. DSDA is located in Dallas and requires a home visit on every adoption so only adopt to Dallas and surrounding areas. ##2205998##

Introducing Gus & Junie This sweet pair was discovered on the side of a country highway. A 3rd dog was deceased in the ditch. They wouldn't leave her side.😔 A good samaritan noticed them at the same location two days in a row. She continued to visit them & feed them in that same location every day for a week while reaching out to rescues for help. That's where we came in.. the pups were moved to a loving foster home. They've been so grateful & loving. More about them: "Gus is a big lovebug who would climb into your lap if he could. He loves any kind of attention & he loves to play & tumble. He's learned a few commands. He's extremely smart & he's the first one to upstage the other dogs by learning the fastest. He does great with treat rewards. He'll often greet me by standing on his hind legs, putting his paws on my shoulders for a snuggle. He gets along playfully with other dogs, but does get a bit jealous & will give a little growl if they crowd him. He's doing so much better about standing back if I tell him to. He's still too eager to make friends with cats.. so no cat friends for him for now. He very much wants to please. It's obvious how grateful he is to have the constant love & attention he didn't have before being rescued.❤️‍🩹" "Junie is so sweet & kind. She's still very shy unless the other dogs are barking out greetings & she'll join in. She loves any attention & she flips over to show her belly for rubs every time we walk by her. She loves other dogs & she's just so excited every morning to see everyone. She's ok with cats if they're introduced slowly. She likes to sleep in a crate with an open door, but mostly just wants to be by us. She loves to run & play & swim in the pond next door!💦 She needs playtime, but she's calm just hanging out too. Max Needs A Home (Courtesy Post) Max has a story to tell.. he lived the first 3 years of his life since he was a puppy alone in a junk yard outside in the Texas heat. His owner used him as a "guard dog." But Max is a kind, gentle dog who only wants to be loved. He was painfully lonely. 💔 A good samaritan asked his owner if she could take him & give him a better life. The owner, who Max was obviously afraid of, refused. Max ended up with a tumor on the side of his face. He suffered with that for many months. Only then did the owner agree to give him up. The good samaritan took him directly to the vet & Max was placed on preoperative antibiotics. Thankfully, the biopsy came back negative for cancer. His tumor removal surgery was scheduled April 30th. He's now 2 & a half weeks post-op & recovering very well. Max's rescuer/angel/hero lives in a place where most people regard dogs as objects. She has saved many dogs already, & there are many more waiting for her help. Her home is overfull & her heart is too. ❤️‍🩹 Max is now in need of the loving forever home he so deserves.
