Story
Favoring back right leg/hip/knee?Skylar is a gorgeous husky/shepherd mix with striking blue eyes. He is about 2 years old. Skylar had been injured during his time on the streets and had TPLO surgery on his leg in the spring. He has since recovered nicely. He absolutely loves to run and play! He's a rough and tumble guy and does like to be in charge, but he likes to play with other dogs once the pecking order is established. Skylar is also receiving training on basic obedience commands and socialization. Skylar would love to have a new family or a foster so he can find out how wonderful family life is. Does Skylar sound like your kind of guy? Email placement@duckteam6.org or visit our website to fill out an application.   January 29, 2025, 7:26 pm

Story
Lucy (formerly Biscuit) is part of the Breakfast Club… 5 pups found living under a mobile home in West Dallas.  She is the only girl.   After a long day, they were caught and taken to a wonderful foster. Biscuit arrived dirty, flea ridden and scared. After 2+ weeks of good food, good care and love, they are happy, roly-poly, playful and ready to find their forever homes! The puppies are now about 20 weeks old. Lucy was initially very shy but has really blossomed.  She has made friends with the foster's older chihuahua and likes being with other dogs.  She now runs to her foster mom for hugs and affection. Lucy has all her puppy shots.  She will need to be spayed when she is 6 months old, which Duck Team 6 will pay to cover.  Please email placement@duckteam6.org if you are interested in adopting either of these cuties!   January 29, 2025, 7:04 pm

Story
Meet Smokey Joe - a very sweet gentleman who will make a wonderful companion. At approximately 12 years old, he's obviously beyond the puppy stage. He loves going for walks and is more of a stop and smell the roses; kind of guy. After a walk, he's perfectly content to take a nap. Smokey Joe gets along well with dogs and cats, and should do well with both after proper introductions. His foster home has two adult dogs and four adult cats, and he's just part of the pack. He even lets one cat tease him and he doesn't seem to mind. He prefers to be near his people, so he'll happily follow you from room to room to make sure he's not missing out on anything. He will bark from time to time, but he quiets down before long. If you're looking for the company of a sweet soul, apply to meet Smokey Joe! A generous family has made a donation to sponsor Smokey Joe's adoption fee! All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. The standard minimum donation for dogs over six months to seven years is $200, puppies under six months is $250, dogs eight years and over are $100 unless specified otherwise. Story
If you're a calm person who enjoys relaxing, or not looking for a dog to participate in a lot craziness, then Abby is your gal. She is an older lady of a calmer disposition and is very, very sweet. She is leash and crate trained and is histortically good with kids, and other dogs. She even lives with fellow German Shepherds! She does go on walks, but likes to go at her own pace. She isn't super enthused by toy yet, but does like to keep a favorite nearby. She likes to know her person(s) is near. For example if she's in the backyard she's most comfortable if you're outside also. She enjoys pettings and cuddles and if given the choice, would like to rest next to you. Her dream match? Someone she can love and trust. All Dallas Pets Alive adoptable pets are spayed or neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines upon adoption. Story
Pax is 7 months old. My husband was working with his previous owner and received it from him. He would be perfect in a home with either other large dogs or no dogs. I would not recommend he be with small dogs. He is already big and loves to play rough. Our older small dog does not handle this well. Pax is friendly, but still very very fearful. We suspect he was abused by the previous owner. He has improved a lot, but is still easily startled. He has never ever growled at us (husband or kids). He is very sweet and would do great with someone who will sit with him and cuddle.

Story
Meet HK and Mac! A dynamic duo hailing from Kingston, Oklahoma, inseparable buddies seeking their forever home together. Playful and affectionate, these two are a bundle of joy waiting to bring endless happiness to the right family! HK, a striking German Shepherd at 2 years old, and Mac, a charming Terrier/Pit mix at 3, form an unbreakable bond. With their large size and boundless energy, they thrive in environments where they can roam freely and play to their heart's content! Their favorite pastimes include frolicking together, gnawing on bones, and gleefully squeaking their toys. Both are quick learners, responding to commands like "No," "Sit," and "Stay" with enthusiasm and readiness for playtime. While they adore each other's company, their shared desire for exploration means they require a securely fenced yard to prevent any escape attempts. Mac's history suggests a propensity for chasing cats, an issue that potential adopters should be mindful of, a feline-free household would be a must for this pair. In terms of health, Mac is already fixed with up-to-date shots, while HK awaits his turn for neutering, a cost the current caregiver is willing to cover. However, due to their lively nature, ongoing monitoring and training may be necessary, particularly to manage HK's eagerness to engage in play. What truly sets HK and Mac apart is their boundless affection and keen awareness of their surroundings. They relish belly rubs and are ever-vigilant, demonstrating a protective streak that enhances their appeal as loyal companions! For their future family, continuity is key; they must remain together to ensure their continued happiness and well-being. If you're ready to open your heart and home to this delightful duo, reach out to adopt@joyfulpets.com for more information on bringing HK and Mac into your life!

Story
Sasha is being fostered in PA. Sasha needs to be an only dog. She does not like active dogs Sasha can ONLY be adopted to a home with older children or all adults. Sasha is NOT good with cats. Sasha is spayed. Christmas time is here, soon a new year will dawn, and I’m still patiently waiting for my furever home and that special family to give me lots of love and belly rubs. I enjoy walks and will do OK without a fenced yard if you take me out on walking adventures. If you have a fenced yard I will run and play with you. I just enjoy the company of peeps. I don’t care to be with other dogs, just be by myself with my humans. I am a good girl in the house…unless you leave tasty morsels of food on the counter. Then I may just have to help myself! I know Sit, Down, am learning Wait, but I don’t really want to wait, hee hee. I also do pretty well on a leash. I’m still working on some other things like no jumping up on my peeps. I just want to greet and say Hi and give kisses and hugs to my peeps. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
I had a pleasant surprise in store when I met Mack. He’s a seven month old 53 pound German Shepherd mix that was surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 10/1 along with his brother Cheese. The surrender form stated that they were surrendered because the owners were moving AND had too many dogs. It also stated that both brothers had lived entirely outdoors and had not been taught any commands. The outdoors part was obvious from looking at the fly bites on Mack’s ears. So I assumed that Mack would need manners training. I’m assuming he probably has not had much socialization. Yet, he was really well mannered, gentle, and loving. He didn’t jump on me except one time to give me a hug. I also got kisses. He was just so happy for some attention. He looked over the wall and was whining. I’m assuming he was looking for his owners🥲. He also romped around the yard and then came back to hang out with me. He took treats gently and seem to be motivated by them. He’s obviously smart and very trainable. He needed some coaxing walking on the leash. The surrender form said he was raised with other dogs but not cats or children. I’m told he had to fight for his food so he has some scars on his head and his legs. If you have another dog, they will need to be fed separately. He really has so so much potential. He wants to be an inside dog this time around where we can chill out watching TV with his new family.

Story
Meet Juniper! She is an approximately six-year-old, 70+ pound Belgian Malinois/Shepherd mix. We adopted her in 2019 from Dallas Animal Services and were immediately drawn to her goofy smile and personality. She is full of energy (doggy parkour anyone?!) but loves nothing more than cuddling up with the people she loves on the couch for a long day of snuggles. She has no history of health problems (though she has been known to fake an injury or two when she isn't getting enough attention), and she is up to date with all medical care (vaccines, microchipping, check-ups, etc.). Juniper is incredibly playful and energetic. Her favorite game is chasing tennis balls around the house, and she adores chewing up toys until they are completely demolished. She needs a big backyard that she can run and play in, and she can never resist chasing squirrels and barking at birds. Her biggest nemesis is the mailman and the UPS man. She has a strong bark and takes protecting her house very seriously. Juniper is good with children and other animals, however, we believe that she would flourish in a household where all of the extra attention could be focused on her. She does have destructive tendencies when left home alone and not given proper exercise or attention beforehand (pillows beware), but she has undergone significant training and knows her basic commands. She is also leash reactive which can make walks challenging. Juniper is housebroken, however, she is not crate-trained. She gets nervous in a crate and does better with being out of the crate when you leave the house. Currently, Juniper lives with one other (older dog) who can't keep up with her playfulness, which has caused increasing tension between the dogs. Additionally, with her human family expanding, she has gotten less attention over the past year and is no longer thriving in her home situation. She is being rehomed in the hopes that she finds a family with the time to give her all of the attention and love that she deserves. Juniper has the sweetest heart of any dog we have ever known, and combined with her goofy, energetic personality, she is a wonderful dog. We hope to find her a family who loves her for exactly who she is and cherishes and appreciates the silly qualities that make her so special. Story
Please meet Remington aka Remi!! We think he is a Malinois mix. We know this sweet boy is approximately 10 months old and has had all his vaccines, been neutered, microchipped, and tested Negative for heartworms! All that, PLUS he's handsome, fun-loving, good on-leash, knows "sit" and "down," good with other dogs of all sizes, and he's learned to be cat-cautious! 😊 He's sweet with humans, and is particularly fond of his foster father. Remi is still a pup and has lots to learn -- like no counter-surfing, no digging in your water bowl, and try respecting other people's space! 😊 But, he's catching on quickly, as is common with his breed! His housetraining is coming along nicely. He will learn all these things and anything else someone wants to teach him! He's young and eager to learn and please. If you are interested in adopting Remi, please complete the online adoption application you will find near his pics on our website: www.BaytownHumaneSociety.org Remi is a Keeper!!
