We rescued Sidney from a horrific shelter in Memphis, TN. When we got him, he was skin and bones and had some barrier aggression issues (who knows what horrors he suffered there) It didn't take long for Sidney to realize he was now safe and could start letting down his guard. Sidney Poitier has filled out and is truly a stunning dog. Sidney is about 2 years old, and is at his healthy weight of 80 lbs. Sidney is a very intelligent fellow, he learns quicky and is anxious to please. He will do well with a job and/or a lot of stimulation, long walks and hikes. He will do well with an experienced dog person. Sidney loves meeting new people. He has done well with large dogs he has met, however he is would not be good with small dogs or cats. Sidney does show barrier reactivity, however, when the barrier is removed (whether it is a crate, fence or car window) he show absolutely no issues. Because Sidney likes a lot of activity, he will need a securely fenced yard (must be a physical fence, not an electric or invisible system) He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped and on monthly treatment for flea/ticks and heartworm prevention If you are interested in Sidney Poitier, email cox_ann@bellsouth.net for an application

Calista is a beautiful, crazy, playful, rambunctious 2 year old German Shepherd. Found out in the woods in Rio Grande Valley with her mom and sister fending for themselves and trying to survive the coyotes. She was very skittish when she arrived at the rescue, and at times can still be, but she has come a long way. She gets excited and does a crazy spin in her excitement. She loves playing with other dogs, loves treats and playing with her foster siblings. She really needs a patient person who knows the breed and is willing to work with her and have the dedication to wait until she shows her very silly side :) Her foster mom has learned her secret- treats and smelling like hot dogs/ peanut butter helps! Calista loves other dogs and gets along great with her foster homes pack. She is playful and energetic with them. Sometimes maybe too energetic as she can be an escape artist and find even the smallest of holes in the fence to see if she can fit and make a b-line to the neighbors house! Calista will need to stay local to Texas for the time being. Each day she is gaining confidence and understanding and realizing that people are not all mean and that there ares some out there that really do love dogs and want nothing but goodness for them. Sheeba is my name and I am quite the celebrity around here :) Let me tell you all about it... have a seat and grab some tea. I was living on the streets with a gang of friends... found by a rescuer we were being fed but there was no room to put all of us. Of course, I was pregnant and after I gave birth the rescuers were afraid with all the storms that my babies wouldn't survive out there. So the pound was called, and let me tell you....I WOULD HAVE PROTECTED MY PUPS WITH MY LIFE........ of course, that is deemed "aggressive" and after my two day stray hold I was going to be euthanized and my puppies sent to rescues to bottle feed and raise up :( But MY rescue said, UH UH... She comes with the pups.... and they MADE IT HAPPEN! Now, it wasn't easy but I settled in to the routine and learned my caregiver's names and soon enough I was eating out of their hands. And they learned some neat but sad things about me.... I belonged to someone who trained me....... it is sad because no one has any idea where that person is nor why I was living on the streets :( Also, I am a very smart girl so I am also very sensitive to change....but, with my pups grown and adopted, I am now a model citizen at the rescue. Look at my video....I had JUST met the trainer that day and she absolutely fell head over heels for me. Now I am ready for you, I will complete your family. I am still working on my other dog skills and would probably be best where I can be the only dog and give you all my love. I am a gorgeous girl, my coat resembles a Belgian Shepherd's and I have GSD face and mannerisms. So if you want to adopt me, you must love and understand the working breeds. We need an outlet for our drive and you have to provide that to give me a great balanced life. I am ready, I hope you are too!!
