Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.1/6/25 Athena is currently enrolled at Paws in Prison learning all the things! She works daily with inmates on the basics and even a few tricks! Each week the inmates meet with a certified dog trainer. After 8 weeks she will graduate with her Canine Good Citizen Certificate. She started in December and will graduate in February. Here's what Paws in Prison has to say about her- 'When Athena is finally getting the spoiling she deserves, she won’t say a word about it. But there will be signs. She is a very happy dog these days. Athena is a mix of German shepherd and Husky, and she has one blue eye and two pointy ears to prove it. She’s about 1 year old and weighs about 50-60 pounds. Athena is a full-fledged beauty. Very nice girl with an upbeat disposition. She engages easily and wants to be included. She’s also very smart and pays attention to everything. Love her and she’ll love you back ten times more.'  Her backstory- Athena is a survivor. She was an owned dog, and her mom really loved her. However, the home was not a happy one for mom, because she was suffering through domestic violence. Things escalates, and Athena's mom had to take her kids and get out quickly. Unfortunately, the place she was going to did not allow pets, so she had to leave Athena behind. The abuser then chained Athena to a tree. There she sat, for about 6 weeks or so, with no shelter. Sometimes, he threw a little food out to her, but most days, he didn't. She was hungry thirsty, cold, and most of all...lonely. But she's safe now and lonely no more.  Athena is a very good girl. She minds very well and is eager to learn. She is very receptive to affection and training as well. Athena was already spayed when we got her in rescue, but sadly, she did test positive for heartworms. While she is at Paws in Prison, she will start her 30 days of doxycycline pre-treatment, then will be treated for heartworms after she graduates the program. She will be available for adoption after she is treated. Athena is only about a year old and in good health otherwise, so we don't expect any complications, and she should make a full recovery. She is reportedly 1/2 German Shepherd, 1/2 Husky. About 50-60 pounds. She is good with other dogs. Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.2/2/25 Behr is now about 12 weeks old (estimated DOB 11/20/24).  He and his siblings are very smart pups! They are really amazing for such young pups. They will be fairly big boys once full grown.  His foster mom says he is a very chonky, very playful boy!  Mama is a mixed breed, maybe Lab mix? But her babies look very much like Shepherd mixes.  She about 40 pounds. We do not know who/what dad was. Mama, Autumn, and her pups are in a wonderful foster home where they are getting lots of love and attention! Behr is up to date on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, neutered, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. It's quite a story of how Behr and his siblings came into rescue. Our amazing rescue director, Kelley, was out running errands about a month ago. She was traveling a very busy highway when she saw a dog on the side of the road who had clearly had puppies recently. She tried to get the dog to come to her with no luck. She went and bought dog food and went back to the area where she'd seen the Mama dog and left it for her. In the meantime, Kelley had posted about seeing the Mama. Later on, someone reported they'd seen the mama on the side of the road, deceased. Long story short, that turned out not to be true (maybe it was a deer deceased on the side of the road?). Someone alerted us where they thought mama lived. It was cold out that night and Kelley was so worried wondering where the mama and her pups were, if they had shelter etc. So, Kelley did what she always does and headed out late Saturday night with a friend to go find mama and pups. She went to the area she was told she might live. It was not a very safe area, but Kelley went anyway. There were several campers all parked in this area. Kelley knocked on a few doors and nobody knew the dog. So she went searching through the woods, nothing. The food she'd left hadn't been touched. After searching for awhile, she went back to the campers and ended up finding the owner of the mama. There she with 7 pups in a dog house. Thankfully the owner let Kelley take mama and all the pups. One of our wonderful foster families took them in and the rest is history. Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. (These pictures were taken 2 weeks ago, we'll get some new ones soon). Story
Meet Leon, your new best friend, a 3-year-old German Sheperd Husky mix with eyes that will melt your heart and a goofy nature that will make you fall in love from the first kiss! He definitely likes attention and will let you know if he is feeling ignored. He will be vocal if he needs to go out, is hungry, or just wants you to pet him or give him a belly rub. He likes car rides and walks but can pull hard on the leash especially until he gets out some of his energy. He does have experience with kids and living with another dog, but he would do best in a home without young kids and other pets. He is a huge love bug and doesnt realize his size. He can be protective of his family in the home, but when he is out, he is very good at meeting strangers and wants to give lots of kisses. He is crate and house trained. He has also been trained to stay off the furniture and out of bedrooms. He knows some commands including sit, lay down, come, no, and stop. Leon is microchipped and up to date on all shots. All that's lacking is a dose of love from you to fill the empty space in his heart! No dog loves like a rescue dog and words are not adequate enough to describe that feeling! It is pure joy that you have to experience for yourself to be able to understand it! So, what are you waiting for? Allow Leon to fill that void in your life that you may not know you have! Please complete an application on our website if you would like to meet Leon: www.crcpa.org

Story
Age: 3 months Size: 15 lbs Estimated breed: Shepherd/Pit bull mix   Introducing our Gilmore Girls litter! Rory had a rough start to life. Her mama was a german shepherd who lived in a outdoor kennel and became pregnant by a stray pit bull. When Rory was only a few weeks old, her mama got loose from the kennel and was unfortunately struck and killed by a car, leaving Rory and her siblings orphaned. Her human owners kept them fed and as warm as they could outside, but Rory deserves more than that. We agreed to take her into rescue so she can find a forever home!    Rory is 3 months old and weighs around 15 lbs. She is a german shepherd/pit bull mix, so we anticipate she will be a large dog when full-grown. She loves playing with her siblings, meeting new people, and learning everything a young dog needs to know. She's in foster care with children and a cat and does great with them both. Rory is looking for a forever home with the time, patience, and love to train her into the best girl she can be!    To adopt Rory, please apply on our website! https://www.nirvanaanimalrescue.org/adoption-application   Please note we cannot guarantee the age or breed of any of our dogs. All of our dogs are working on their crate and house training.   PA Kennel License #18366February 3, 2025, 12:47 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. 2nd Chance 4 Life Rescue is primarily a sanctuary for senior and medically needy dogs.  Every once in awhile you will see younger dogs but for the most part our dogs live out their life at the ranch at the request of their previous owners or their owners families.  We have many sponsorship dogs.  Our sponsors love to keep in touch and know how their sponsored fur buddy is doing :)When we have foster families we are thrilled to be able to take adoptable younger dogs :)  So if you have ever thought about becoming fosters please feel free to go to our foster/volunteer page and fill out an application. The Ranch located at 737 Taylor Rd., Windsor, PA is always looking for dedicated volunteers that will commit to at least a 2 hour shift per week at the rescue.  Volunteers work in play yards, help with laundry and feeding.  Some enjoy landscaping or carpentry projects and some like to bake for the healing center visitors :)Thank you for supporting our mission of caring for the elderly and medically needy souls that need us!UPDATE 3/5/2024:  Buddy is having some issues being 'stiff' but as long as you don't have stairs he does great.  He does guard his toys but if you do a trade with a snack he will give them up :)  Looking for a GS experienced ownerUPDATE:  Buddy is looking fantastic!!  He is a little 'stiff' in his old age but I told him its OK so am I!  He LOVES attention, he likes his toys and he is great with the dogs although I think he would be just as happy as an only dog he does fine with all the dogs here at the ranch :)I can only imagine how Buddy must have felt...  Like no one cared, defeated, ready to give up, a banquet for fleas and tics :(  It took us quite a while to get him back to health and still he deals with ear infections from repeated ones not being treated :(  No worries now big man you are loved and valued!Buddy you have your 2nd Chance and we are going to give you an amazing life!!REQUIRES FENCED YARD!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please fill out an adoption application: Adoption application (Dog) Adoption Application (Cat)   Please understand we do not adopt out dogs to families with children under the age of 5. We do not adopt dogs to renters. Some dogs will have fence requirements while others may not.   A pet is a lifetime commitment. The dogs and cats in our system find themselves there, for the most part, because their humans did not have the same loyalty to them as they did to their owners. We do not take the adoption process lightly, and will do everything in our power to make sure the animal is placed correctly the first time around for your sake and theirs. Thank you for choosing to adopt not shop!October 14, 2024, 6:08 pm

Story
Hi there! My name’s Athos, and I’m a big, playful boy with a huge heart ready to share with my forever family. I’m super smart, always eager to learn, and I love being active, especially outdoors—no matter the weather! I’m also a champion cuddler and will nudge you for pets and snuggles because I adore affection. I’ll admit, I’m still figuring out all the house rules, but I’ve made great progress and love showing off when I get things right. I thrive with people who are patient, active, and ready to help me continue learning and growing. I dream of a home where I’m the only pet so I can give you all my love and focus. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s ready to be your best friend, I can’t wait to meet you!

These pups are in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania too!

Story
PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.12/14/24 STILL AVAILABLE 10/21 Zora, Maud, Klaus, Lars,  Edda, and Petra were born to a stray dog who has been staying in the same area for several years. This is her 4th litter. People in the neighborhood feed her, but no one can seem to catch her to have her spayed. We didn't find out about this situation until last week, when we were contacted by an 86 year old lady who is the one taking care of these pups. The mama dog brought these pups up to her house when they were only a few weeks old, and Ms. Fontaine has been trying to find a rescue to help with them since then. Unfortunately, all rescues in our area are overwhelmed and no one was able to help her. I went over to meet and vaccinate the pups last week. They are 5 months old. They are very scared and timid. Ms. Fontaine is able to pet all of them and even allows them in her house. They love her, and she loves them, but we are all afraid with her age, these pups are creating a fall risk for her. They do not jump on her, but wec are worried about her tripping over them. We would love to move them to other rescues if anyone knows a rescue who could take 1 or 2. They are also available for adoption, but adopters will need to be aware that they will definitely be a project. They will take a long time to gain confidence and build trust. They are NOT aggressive at all. I was able to give them all shots with not even a growl from any of them. They just hide and tremble. I do believe they have potential to be good pets, but it is going to require a lot of patience and work.  If anyone is interested in giving one of these pups a  let us know. We are working on getting them all fixed so they wont continue adding to the population. We will also continue efforts to trap the mama dog so we can stop the steady flow of pups.  We are all so overwhelmed. And it is next to impossible to find homes for dogs like these. Spayed/neutered UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and started on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.  Please consider giving one of these babies a good home. They will be so loyal and loving. Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations.
