Story
Meeka is a gorgeous German Shepherd girl with a big heart! Like many German Shepherds, she can be a little reserved when meeting new people, but don't let that fool you! A few tasty treats and gentle words of encouragement will quickly melt her nervousness, revealing the sweet and affectionate companion within. German Shepherds are known for their intelligence and loyalty, and Meeka is no exception. She's seems to know the commands like "sit" and "shake," and with her eagerness to please, she'll be a quick study for any further training you might have in mind 📚 While she loves to strut her stuff on leisurely walks, remember that German Shepherds are an active breed. Providing her with plenty of physical exercise and mental stimulation will be key to her happiness. A playful game of fetch in the yard or an engaging puzzle toy will keep her tail wagging. Meeka is hoping to find a patient and understanding family who will give her the space and time she needs to settle in. Experience with the breed would be wonderful, as German Shepherds often thrive with owners who understand their unique needs and characteristics 🧬 With the right family, Meeka will blossom into the loyal and loving companion she's meant to be. Offer her a safe and comfortable environment, and she'll reward you with a lifetime of unconditional love and devotion.🐾💓 Primary Color: Tan Secondary Color: Black Weight: 66 Age: 3yrs 1mths 3wks

Story
Hello there! My name is Camper and I am looking for my forever family! I am a spry young man with lots of energy and love to give! My friends here at Heartland say I am very smart, and pick up on training quickly. I am a little shy around strangers, but give me snacks and I am your new best friend! I have met other dogs here at the shelter and I love to play, but I should meet any potential siblings before I go home, to make sure they can handle my energy. If I sound like a good fit, ask to meet me, Camper today!

Story
Bram, our 56 pound 8 month old sheppy puppy, is open to making a toy out of anything. Flexibility is an admirable trait, so we appreciate that about Bram. Although, like most puppies, he enjoys stuffies and squeakers, Bram's just as happy to play with the empty box they came in. So don't worry about spending a ton of money on toys when you take Bram home; just check your recycling bin. Bram came to us from the shelter after he was found stray and injured; he was likely hit by a car. Thanks to the @1510Foundation for covering Bram's care in it's entirety, we were able to get Bram the surgery he needed for his broken leg and pelvis. Bram is finally healed and can do all the same things any other puppy can do. His back leg did heal a bit crooked, so he has a slightly penguin-like gait, but is comfortable and happy. Described by his foster family and sweet and gentle, Bram has been a delightful house guest. He is very friendly and is great with the other dogs in his foster home. Although we have not seen him with cats, we suspect he would do fine with proper introductions. Bram should also do fine with kids over 6. Bram doesn't love being in a crate but has been working on being left alone and is coming a long way. He is good on a leash and likes to meet other people on walks. Although potty-trained and eager to please, like all puppies, Bram would benefit from ongoing training. Since he's so smart and food motivated, this should be a breeze. When Bram isn't playing, he's all about cuddling, so his home should be prepared to snuggle up at night. Bram is heartworm negative and current on his flea and heartworm preventatives. Been wondering what to do with that paper bag? Bram can help you with that. Apply to adopt at www.stumptownstrays.org

Story
Jensen is a 3-year-old German Shepherd who is a bit of a mystery. He's quite nervous at the shelter but loves to explore his surroundings with his nose. While hesitant with people, he'll curiously approach to within a couple of feet before retreating, showing a conflict between his desire to connect and his fear. Jensen needs a patient and understanding family who can give him the space and time he needs to build trust. He's motivated by treats, which will be a valuable tool for building a bond and working on confidence-building exercises. A quiet home with a predictable routine will help him feel safe, and a family who can read his subtle cues and respect his boundaries will be key to helping him blossom. If you're experienced with fearful dogs and ready to provide a loving and supportive home for Jensen, please come meet him today to see if it would be a good fit. With the right family, this diamond in the rough will shine! Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Brown Weight: 65.8125 Age: 3yrs 0mths 0wks

Story
Meet Milo Milo is a handsome, 7-month-old German Shepherd with a heart full of love and a playful spirit. During his time living with a trainer, Milo has been working hard on his leash manners and basic obedience commands like “sit” “down”, and "place." He’s a smart, eager-to-please pup who’s ready to keep learning and growing with his forever family. Milo is crate-trained and does well with potty training when kept on a consistent schedule. He gets along great with other dogs, though his enthusiastic energy means slow introductions are best. Having lived with kids, Milo is a true sweetheart who absolutely loves cuddles—his snuggles are second to none! This amazing boy thrives on mental and physical stimulation and would do best with a family who can keep him active and engaged daily. Milo is a loyal, loving companion just waiting for the perfect home to share his heart with. Could Milo be the perfect addition to your family? Apply at www.hopeshavenfriends.org

Story
If love an independent natured dog, Pearl is your girl! This a low-maintenance girl who doesn’t want to be your shadow but will make you feel loved just the same. Not being the attention seeking type doesn’t mean she lacks charm though- from her looks to her easy-company, she has plenty of charm for someone who appreciates her low-key style. You were surely drawn in by her eyes, one sparkles blue and one is warm brown. She is really striking and stands proud which makes her a gorgeous scene. Plus, she has the cutest fluffy tail. In the same way people can be described as introverts and extroverts, it is very similar for dogs. If we were going to define her as one or the other, Pearl is an introvert. A self-confident introvert with great social skills who prefers to take things slow basically. With dogs, she enjoys a good romp. Her foster has shared that the dog she enjoys most is an especially big male who enjoys playing rough-and-tumble but takes breaks and is just as happy to wander around with her in the yard. Pearls ideal home would include a yard and I would even call her a yard explorer, she loves nothing more than just putzing around the yard checking out the garden, watching the birds, and occasionally making a bid for someone to play with her. She knows how to keep the peace but has motherly energy in larger groups of dogs, almost like she is sets the tone of keeping it light-hearted. No cats for Pearl though, she has the idea that cats don’t like her so she decided the feeling is mutual. She would definitely try to chase a cat if the occasion arises and cats sure do hate that. Pearl is estimated to be about 3 years old and weighs 64 lbs. She is in the phase of life where dogs settle into themselves which is overall marked with the easy-days. She is crate-trained, loves car rides, and is equally motivated by treats and a good “attagirl” amount of praise. Pearl will likely give her new family a touch of her introverted personality as she warms up to a new home but a little patience is all it takes for her. Before you know it that quirky personality of hers will start to shine. We would love to see Pearl in a home with a yard given how much she loves her outside time. She has basic leash skills but walks on leash are not her love language like some dogs. That independent confident nature of hers will be satisfied with the occasional zoomies and solo “adventures” in the yard. If you like your girls independent, the type that will happily spend their life with you without smothering you, and will come when you call, Pearl is your perfect match. If Pearl sound like your kind of companion, apply today! https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/64fe4d945b1d5552210f3db4 Questions? You can join along on our private Facebook event page to follow their adventure, connecting you with other adopters and providing updates throughout their transport journey! You will get to meet your new pup over a video call before signing paperwork, creating a fun and personalized adoption experience!  The adoption fee is $750 and includes all vetting (DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad spectrum deworming treatments, spay/neuter, flea prevention, a 12 month heartworm preventative injectible, heartworm test and treatment if needed, a microchip with free lifetime registration, a high quality nylon Martingale collar, a health certificate deeming the pup healthy for travel, cost of transport*, and priceless years of love and loyal companionship!  We have over 15,000 successful adoptions so far and have excellent Google Reviews: https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.  Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!  Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond. Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs. It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS: Extensive behavioral testing and information from trainers on our staff to ensure the perfect fit for your family  Discounts on Embark DNA test kit- $30 off of Breed ID test & $50 off of Breed ID plus Health test 30 day trial of pet insurance with Trupanion A free private online dog training session with GoodPup, plus low pricing for future sessions  70% off of your first order of Fetch, a delicious PNW based fresh dog meatballs subscription Coupons for a fun visit to Petco 20% off of Dr. Cuddles pet first aid and hygiene solutions Discounted heartworm, flea prevention, and monthly dewormer  Access to our exclusive FB Adopters page, where you can network for play dates, resources, and connect with other adopters that share their passion for their adopted pup! Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
