Story
I got my dog, Rita a female German Shepherd, in 2020 when I was in the beginning of college. My plans for her was to train her to be a therapy dog and take her to hospitals and nursing homes. I have done extensive training with her and she is an amazing dog. Unfortunately for Rita, my life has gone in a different direction to where I cannot train with her as much and give her what would fulfill her potential. Furthermore we are starting a family do not have the time to take care of her. After over a year of thinking about this, I believe it would be best to find her a home that could give her a job and purpose. She has just turned 5, and she is very healthy.

He loves attention and is always happy to lean in for pets or sit beside you just to be close. Despite his size, he has a sweet, friendly nature that wins people over instantly. Smokey enjoys his walks, exploring the world at an easy pace, and he’s just as content spending time relaxing and hanging out with his favorite humans. A true gentle giant, Smokey brings steady companionship and a warm, loyal presence wherever he goes.

Story
Murphy was known as Sean at the shelter at San Antonio. He had been injured by a car and was taken to the shelter where he was placed on the euthanasia list after a few short days. He didn’t have much hope left and had given up. After seeing the sadness in his eyes, we knew we had to help. He was transported to Ohio and was seen by our orthopedic surgeon who determined he had to lose his long beautiful tail, but there was also a good chance he would need a femoral head ostectomy to correct his hip and leg. Because a small amount of healing was noted, he was given 3 weeks to determine if his body would heal enough on its own and we could spare him the pain of surgery. That turned out to be the case, so this sweet guy only lost his tail. Murphy is doing wonderfully and continues to heal and gain strength. He has been cleared for adoption and is hoping to find a very loving family to give him the life he deserves. Murphy is a shepherd mix. Best guess by the vet is a mix with Chow Chow because of his tiny, flopped over ears, but we aren’t sure. Thor is a 1 yr old (born April 24, 2024) German Shepherd/Border Collie mix. He is currently around 50 lbs. He is social, good with other dogs and has been around cats. He lived his entire short life outdoors so he will require obedience training, house training and learn how to live inside.   Our hope is that we can send him to the prison for training once we have an opening.  He arrived here with several other dogs from the same property.   If you are interested in Thor or one of his companions/siblings please contact the shelter OR stop in during regular business hours.
