Story
"There is a gentleness in her eyes that I see. I hate to see healthy, non-aggressive animals euthanized". That was the email we received about weeks ago in regards to Eleanor. She was on her last day and no other rescue had stepped up to take her. We were really her last chance. 1 week later, and here she is with us. We named her after the finest car in "Gone in 60 Seconds". And, truly, if she got off her leash, she would be gone in about 0.6 seconds! Eleanor is painfully shy and scared but lets us love on her and doesn't try to get away. She does well in a crate. She needs work..lots of it, but in her eyes, we see hope too. She is not currently for adoption but can be sent to an experienced foster home. Reach out to us via email if you are interested in fostering Eleanor. She is a diamond in the rough.

Story
Parker is a spunky, energetic and playful boy. He is incredibly smart and very fast. We think he is about 4.5 years old. Parker came to us from a shelter which was unable to provide any information about the first year of his life. Parker loves to be outside. He enjoys chasing a ball and also taking naps in the sun. He is crate and leash trained. Parker has enormous energy and requires daily exercise to channel his energy.  Parker doesn’t do well with children because of their high level of activity and noise.  He does have a very high prey drive, like a lot of shepherds.  Parker likes quiet, order and routine so an adult-only home is a must for him. Parker lived in a home with a cat for two years and though the two were not friendly, they lived together peacefully. Parker would prefer to be the king of his castle and an only dog.  He has interacted with many other dogs without incident.  However, he can become  uncomfortable meeting new dogs or people while on leash or otherwise restrained (in crate, behind gate, etc).  Parker will do best where he has space to enjoy outdoors and plenty of attention from his people. A secure fenced in yard is a must.  Parker needs an experienced handler to help guide him.  Parker would love a family of his own so he can give them love and loyalty.   Parker’s rabies vaccine is good through March 2025. He has had regular veterinary care and is neutered and microchipped.  If you are an experienced German shepherd home that wants a loyal and loving companion to share your life with, please contact BMSR1313@gmail.com for more information.  THIS IS A COURTESY POST.  Blue Moon Shepherd Rescue only adopts to applicants in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.  If you are interested in being considered to adopt this dog, please fill out an online application by clicking here.   October 27, 2024, 3:08 pm

Story
We have some exciting news to tell you about Indy Anna! Just a few short months after our original post on Indy's surgery, she is really coming into her own. The smart, sweet sensitive, happy-go-lucky girl we knew was waiting to emerge has blossomed into an outgoing young lady who loves everyone and everything with an amazing joy and enthusiasm! She never met a person or a dog that she didn't like. And, true to her name, she just wants to go...and go...and go! She's becoming the true working shepherd that was masked by the debilitating effects of her (formerly) bad hips.   Indy's native intelligence and drive are beginning to shine with a quick wit and unmatched focus and determination. We can already see that she would be great at scent work and tracking, perhaps even with some agility training thrown in for fun (not competition).   The challenge with the new Indy will be harnessing her boundless energy. She'll need to be engaged and exercised regularly to wear off that energy without undoing all of the hard work that's made her healthy. A gentle and tolerant (male) companion would be great! Indy loves to run and play, but rough housing is not in her future.   If you're an active family with an on-the-go lifestyle, Indy Anna may just be the perfect match for you. She'll love the activity, stimulation, and engagement that she's just beginning to be able to enjoy. And she'll reward you by being the best companion, partner and friend you could ever imagine.   Want to know more about Indy's story? Read on...   If Indy Anna (Jones) had a theme song, it would be “I will survive.”    First, she was abandoned on the backroads of rural North Carolina   . Then, just when it seemed that    fate was turning in her favor and that Indy could begin living the life she deserved, we discovered that she needed not one, but two    hip surgeries. Yet through it all, this incredible two-year-ol d pu p    proved true to her    German Shepherd background.    She was patient and loving  and enjoyed the attention her medical and   physical therapy  team   showered on her.     Not-so-fast forward six months, and Indy is ready to find a forever ho me.    Indy  is a loving, energetic girl who wants to play and chase and run with the best of them. Given h er surgeries, however, she’ doesn’t have quite the stamina but is getting stronger each day.      The perfect owner for Indy will understand the push and pull of Indy’s    life. She’s full of energy that needs to be directed and focused. She’ll want to run and needs to walk every day.   Indy is highly dog social and looks forward to her pack walk each day.   Fortunately,  Indy walks well on leash and loves to explore, she is always up for an adventure. She    loves other dogs, but she    can’t rough house as much as she would like. In fact, s he’s taught her foster siblings how to “play fight.”    She has helped exercise and train many foster puppies during her time in foster care.  Through it all, Indy    insists on being the diva and controlling the situation but has never shown any aggression, she is a benevolent diva.    She loves kids, but would do best with older children (over 16) who can understand her needs.     If you understand working dogs, you’ll appreciate Indy’s dilemma. She has the soul of a    working dog, but in a body that can’t support the working life.   An owner with breed experience would be the best fit for her.  She is a great companion, loving, sweet and super smart.  You can take her anywhere and she will be ready to meet people and enjoy new dog friends.  W ith Indy, you will get the best aspects of owning a German shepherd -- a    “wicked” smart dog that will be a loyal and devoted companion.     Indy has spent time with a trainer who has helped focus her and teach her how to channel her working energy.  She is very well trained, even with hand signals.  Indy would do well with a male companion or a non-dominant female dog who enjoys positive play but not rough play.  Indy has a high prey drive so no cats or small dogs.  A fenced in yard is a must.   Indy is spayed, up to date on vaccines, on monthly heart worm preventative.  She is also crate trained.  If you are interested in adopting Indy,  please contact Donna at    BMSR1313@gmail.com    or complete an application online at   Click to apply    Blue Moon Shepherd Rescue only adopts to applicants in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.  If you are interested in being considered to adopt this dog, please fill out an online application by clicking here.   October 27, 2024, 3:08 pm
