Story
Don't let the soft grey muzzle on this beautiful sweet girl fool you! Valentine is young at heart and eager to please. She knows how to sit and loves treats. She adores humans but would need to be the only dog in the home. Valentine is a curious girl and loves to explore her environment, but will return to you every few minutes to rest her head in your lap to let you know how much she appreciates the time you are spending with her. Come and meet her! A team member adds, "I spent time with this unusually handsome girl in her room. She is REALLY friendly -- she came right up to me. She is calm with a nice energy level. She enjoyed getting scratches and rubs. She knows shake and will perform it for you as soon as she sees a treat. Another team member says, "Valentine is such a good girl. She's easy to harness and leash, and she's a great walking buddy. We went to the park, and she enjoyed getting a few zoomies out and was brave enough to try the agility ramp all on her own. She checked back in with me frequently for pets and sat like a perfect lady for treats."

This friendly girl is full of zest! Chel is a sweet, friendly terrier mix who weighs an easy 40 pounds. With some TLC and basic training, she would love daily walks with you and your older kiddos (aged 12 years and up). Past the puppy stage but still a youthful 2 years old, Chel is already spayed and ready to settle in with her new family. Chel is a bit stressed after two months in the shelter but always ready to invite a pat and a cuddle. Can you give her the love and security she deserves?

Story
Hello, I`m Becky, your potential new best friend. I may be a senior, but my spirit is young. I`m as sweet as honey, friendly as a summer day, and curious as a cat. My gentle and mellow nature makes me the perfect companion for quiet evenings and evening strolls. I love cuddles and petting, they make my tail wag uncontrollably. I`m also housetrained, so no worries there. I enjoy a daily walk to keep my figure, but I`m not high maintenance. Adopting me means gaining a loyal friend who`ll always be by your side, eager to give love and warmth. I`m ready to make your house a home.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. How to Adopt Sadie is a 10 yr old female shepherd/terrier mix who weighs 52lbs. She is strong-willed and does best with male dogs. She will do best with a dog companion in her new home. She is very athletic and enjoys attention from people. Because she is athletic, she needs daily walks and a very secure yard. She can jump a 6ft fence, so she will need a minimum fence height of 6-7ft preferably a no-climb fence or a concrete wall/fence. She is a really smart girl and will respond well to training, as long as she’s given time. Sadie will make an amazing companion for any family and will probably do well with children.  For more information on Sadie, please complete the online adoption application and call Shirley at 575-491-9577.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 12:23 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. How to Adopt Kai came to us with four other dogs. He came from a property where him and 35+ other dogs lived outside. Kai is about 3-4 years old, based on behavior. They all had absolutely no socialization with people. Although the foster home is working with him, he is unsocialized and will need lots of patience and love in any new home. Kai recently lost his bonded pair – Luna.  He is now learning how to be part of a larger pack. He is currently in a foster home where he is getting some training and rehabilitation.  He is still leery of “the humans” but will allow pets and offerings of treats.  He is learning how to use his voice and has started singing with the other huskies in the house.  He is gentle and kind and needs a ton of love and patience.  But he is so worth the effort.   If you are interested in a fostering or adopting this handsome boy, please fill out our adoption application. You can get to the Adoption Application by clicking 'How to Adopt' and then click 'Complete the adoption application' If you would like to learn more about Kai, you can contact Shirley at (575)491-9577  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 12:23 pm

Story
Available Very Eager To Please German Shepherd mix Approximate DOB 7/14/2024 – About 50 lbs Goose was showing poorly at the shelter due to fear aggression. She was severely under socialized and reactive on leash. She has been with us about 2 weeks and has made remarkable progress. She is an absolutely amazing young girl but will need someone who can continue her work and is knowledgeable about dog behavior and training or willing to hire a trainer.   Goose loves to play with other dogs but is still learning how to greet new dogs appropriately. It seems as though her old owners did not take her out in public so she was only around one person and her small dog so it will take time but she is a fast learner. She would do wonderful in a home with a loving, active person she can follow around and cuddle on the couch with, maybe go on adventures with and learn about the world to combat some of that stress and anxiety around strangers. Goose is an amazing young girl who learns quickly and is very treat motivated. She is still learning what toys are so but seems to love learning about fetch. She ignores the cats and is the type of girl who stays right next to her loved one.  Goose is leash trained, crate trained, house trained, dog door trained, and eager to please.   Neutered, microchipped, and current on all vaccinations - Fee $200 We do welcome out-of-state adoptions. Send an email to request the application or you can download it from the main site www.almosthomenm.org and email it to adopt@almosthomenm.org Dogs are seen by appointment only after an application has been submitted and approved. Story
If it’s a new start you’re thinking about, I have just the answer: Me! I am an especially beautiful, sweet girl with enough personality and smarts for us both. If it is walking and hiking you enjoy, I’ll be your willing partner. And if you enjoy snuggling and spending lots of time with a dog, great news - that's one of my favorite things, too! I'm an intelligent girl with lots to offer - I have experience with crate training, I know "sit," "shake," and "down," and I have excellent leash manners. Everyone I meet is my new best friend. I'm a very agreeable girl, and I get along well with other dogs, and I'm gentle with young kiddos. My absolute favorite thing is just to spend time by your side. Come meet me to see if we’re a fit. I can't wait! A team member says, "Bambi is just the sweetest. She's a dream to walk, and she's never met a person she couldn't charm into snuggling. She knows basic commands, enjoys a good game of fetch, and will frequently lean into you for affection and cuddles." Another team member says, "Bambi is the best girl. She enjoys the simple things, mostly being near you. She's super-affectionate and will always make her rounds on her walks, going up to every person she sees so they can pet her and give her some love. She's very agreeable and is happy to follow your lead, whether that's going to the park to play or walk around or just sit and hang out together."
