Story
Meet Levi!! Levi is a 14 week old shepherd mix pup. Here's what his foster mom has to say: Hes kennel trained. Sleeps through the night. Has NEVER had an accident in his kennel. He will let you know when he's in there, that he has to go potty. House training is a work in progress. But he's doi g better. We do have to watch his water in take. Going to start bell training this weekend. He can be a bit nervous around new people but that doesn't last long. He would do great with another dog in the house that likes to play. Hes learning basic commands. We have been working on sit, down, wait, and nice. Levi is super smart and food motivated. Hes dog friendly and ready for adoption on contract to finish his vetting. #nonprofitanimalrescue #fosterbasedrescue #fosteringsaveslives #fosterpuppiesofinstagram #adoptable

Meet Jade!! Jade is an approx 6mo old shepherd mix. She was abandoned very young with her siblings and thankfully found her way to rescue. Jade is good with other dogs and cats. She is great with kids but still a bit shy of adults until she gets to know you. She will need a home with patience and understanding. Raised voices scare her and she does not do well with them. She is kennel trained and house trained. She will need some work with a leash but is doing really well learning. Shes a bright little girl! Jade is availabe for adoption on contract to finish her vetting.

Story
Meet Ritz!  Your Loyal, One-and-Only Companion Ritz is a 7-year-old Akita mix who’s had a bit of a rollercoaster lately. Recently returned to us through no fault of his own, he’s ready for a fresh start with a family who will cherish him forever. This big-hearted boy has so much love to give and wants nothing more than to play fetch with his people.  He thrives on attention, enjoys walks, and is always up for a good fetch session. Ritz prefers a calm environment where he can be the center of your world. He’s not a fan of sharing the spotlight, so he should be the only pet in the household. Ritz isn’t just handsome—he’s incredibly smart, too . He is fully potty trained, kennel trained, and listens well to commands. He loves having structure and knows what’s expected of him. Being the loyal Akita he is, Ritz would likely do well with kids and would adore “his” little people but he can be protective of his family, so he’ll do best with confident leadership and clear boundaries. Ritz is past the puppy stage but still full of life. He’s a smart, devoted boy with a lot of love to give. If you’re looking for a loyal friend who will bond deeply and love you unconditionally, Ritz is ready to fill that role in the most heartwarming way . Give Ritz the forever home he’s been waiting for...your couch, your heart, and your life will be better for it. The adoption fee is $250* + tax and covers age-appropriate vaccines, a microchip, and a spay/neuter.  *Part of Ritz' adoption fee has been sponsored by someone who loves him! His adoption is now $150 + tax. We're open from 12-4 PM Tuesday - Saturday! Did you know you don't need to have an appointment to visit our available cats and dogs***? Simply drop by and if you find a potential new furry friend, you can fill out an application on the day you visit. Go to townandcountryanimalrescue.org to fill out our digital application. Applications are typically processed in 3-5 business days.  Once you're approved, you can return on the date and time set up by your adoption counselor, with your family for a meet and greet. If it goes well, you can take your new best friend home on the meet and greet day!  If you have other dogs in your home, they must all meet the potential adoptee.   ***Please note that animals in foster homes cannot be viewed at our rescue, and appointments are still required to meet them.  Please be sure to follow us on Facebook to learn more about Town and Country Animal Rescue and our mission.  ##954796##

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.Meet Ollie (aka Ollie-Bear)! Ollie is a sweet and goofy 3-year-old German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix who’s ready to find his forever home! This big cuddle bug loves nothing more than snuggling up in bed with his foster mom, but he’s just as happy going for walks or enjoying a relaxing bath. Ollie has a playful, silly side too—he’ll lay right down in the pool on hot days to cool off, chew on squishy pillows like they’re the best toy in the world, and proudly show off his tricks like “shake” and “high-five.”  This lovable boy would do wonderfully in a home by himself (he loves the attention), or with other dogs to play with. If you’re looking for a loyal, mellow, and affectionate companion with a dash of goofiness, this lovely gentle giant just might be your perfect match. The adoption fee for Ollie is $275, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs.  We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped.  Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply. Like any of our dogs, Ollie would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that his breed needs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.May 2, 2026, 1:28 am

Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. Harrison came to us when his previous owners—who were in the service—found themselves without the time or experience needed to raise a young puppy. When they were reassigned, they made the thoughtful decision to seek help placing him in a home better suited to his needs. At just 7 months old, Harrison (aka Harry) is a handsome, sweet-natured boy with a playful spirit. He loves romping around with dogs his own size and brings an enthusiastic energy to every play session. In his foster home, he’s been thriving and continues to show what a loving, affectionate companion he can be. Harry can be a bit shy when meeting new people, so he would do best in a calmer home without a lot of unfamiliar visitors coming and going. He’ll truly flourish with an adopter who understands his breed and can provide the structure, routine, and guidance he needs as he grows. Continued walks, positive socialization, and consistency will help him build confidence and develop into a well-rounded adult dog. With the right home, Harry is sure to become a loyal and loving companion. Like all GSDs and other herding breeds that we have in rescue, Harry will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization, in order to be a well-balanced, well-behaved dog. This sweet boy would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, activity and mental stimulation that she needs. Because of that, Harry's ideal owner will have prior GSD, or similar breed experience. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills and manners. Harry's adoption fee is $395, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information.Lincoln is one of the puppies from our Nebraska litter, surrendered to HUGS so they could be safely rehomed after an unplanned litter between two German Shepherd parents. Lincoln is 3.5 months old and this handsome boy is everything you’d expect from a German Shepherd puppy: smart, curious, and full of heart. Lincoln is both people-oriented and dog-friendly. He loves to play with toys, explore, and be part of whatever you’re doing—whether that’s an outdoor adventure or just tackling chores around the house. Lincoln also loves to play with other dogs! Lincoln is eager to learn and happy to please. He’s already showing off his intelligence as he works on basic commands like sit, down, touch, spin, and come. He enjoys tug toys, chewing on bones, and is just as content relaxing on the couch with his favorite toy by your side. Confident and adventurous, Lincoln can be a little independent at times. But don’t worry, he absolutely adores his people and always wants to know where you are (and how he can “help”). With his strong nose and love of sniffing, he’d make a fantastic walking, running, or hiking companion. He’s off to a great start with kennel training and potty training, and he truly enjoys learning new things. Lincoln is a great puppy. With continued guidance, he’s going to grow into an incredible companion. Like all German Shepherds and herding breeds, Lincoln will thrive in a home that provides structure, consistency, training, and plenty of physical and mental activity. His ideal home will be active, committed, and experienced with GSDs or similar breeds. A playful canine companion would be a big bonus! Even with a fenced yard, daily walks and outings are essential to help Lincoln stay well-balanced, build good manners, and avoid boredom. Lincoln has a big heart, a bright mind, and a sweet, loving personality. He’s ready to find his forever family! Adoption Details Lincoln’s adoption fee is $450, which helps offset veterinary expenses and allows us to continue rescuing dogs in need. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization and rely on adoption fees and donations to save lives.
