Story
Handsome Axel is from a litter of Shepherd/Pyrenees puppies we rescued from a Kansas shelter in June 2023. We have watched him grow so much and he is so ready for his furever home! High energy Axel really needs an active owner. He would love to be your jogging companion or go with you to the dog park or any body of water. Fun loving Axel loves all kind of toys and playing with other dogs. He would love to have a canine friend to play with in his furever home. Axel is ok with cats, but sometimes will chase them in play. Happy and sweet, Axel enjoys attention from people. He is great with children and would do well with ages 8 and up- due to his energy level and size he might knock littles over on accident. Axel is potty trained and tells his foster mom when he needs to go out. He does ok on a leash and knows some basic commands. 1 year old Axel weighs about 100 lbs. He is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, microchipped, and up to date on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. Being fostered in Robertsville, MO Adoption Requirements: *A 6 ft fence *A home check *A vet check which includes having at least a two year vet history Adopters can be located in Missouri and surrounding states: Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois.

Story
We adopted Millie in 4/2021 from a young couple who had an infant. She had just turned 1 yo. Millie instantly took to my husband w/ an anxious attachment. She completed 3 weeks of obedience training with Sorrenson Kennels - very helpful for all of us. She learned "place, leave it, sit, stay, off, heel, and down"; she could improve w/ following today. Millie sees me as a hinderance to the attachment she has with my husband. It is not uncommon to hear her harrumphs when I give her a command or when my husband and I are talking, for example. The most important factor currently, is that we became grandparents this past year. We are very busy with our grandbaby; he stays with us often. With my husband being a very engaged grandpa, the jealousy Millie displays is overwhelming for all. Millie is highly intelligent and can catch a frisbee in mid-air like a champ. Millie would do well with someone/couple that can provide her the undivided patience and attention she longs for and deserves.

Story
Halo is a beautiful ~7yo white German Shepherd dog. He is great with kids and other animals! We have had him for approximately 5 years and he has been a great dog in that time. He loves hiking and long walks and I trust him off leash. I am rehoming him because of a medical issue with his owner. Please note that he is an active dog that requires daily exercise and a home with a backyard. A sedentary lifestyle or living in a small space is not okay for him. He behaves well and listens great, but will act out if he does not get daily activity.

It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! Story
Meet Abbott, a 5-month-old German Shepherd mix pup who`s looking for his forever family ?? On 1/2/25, Wentzville received a call about Abbott running loose in a subdivision. Every neighbor was feeding him, but no one knew where he came from. He was very timid and semi-feral, but he loved other dogs, so he was running into homes with resident dogs but did not want to be touched. He was not aggressive, just avoidant. He still had baby teeth and was very thin.Abbott is a sweet pup who might be a little shy at first, but once he warms up to you, he`ll be your loyal companion. He was terrified in the shelter and lacked socialization, but he`s making great progress in his foster home. Abbott is currently learning how to walk on a leash and go potty outside. Since he`s still a puppy and hasn`t quite realized his size, he`d do best in a home with older children. Abbott would love a yard to play in and would thrive in a home with a confident dog sibling to run around with! ???? #AdoptDontShop #GermanShepherdMix #ForeverHomeNeeded
