Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Abel is affectionate, playful, smart, and obedient. He's also house-trained and a loyal companion who loves to cuddle, especially with his head on your lap, and is always ready for belly rubs. Abel enjoys a solid 10 hours of sleep, as long as you’re right there sleeping, too. He settles beautifully after a 5-10 minute romp with a ball or frisbee, a game of hide-and-seek, or a nice walk filled with plenty of sniffing and marking. And while he might pull a bit (okay, maybe a lot) on his walks, he’s well-mannered in the home. He even knows a few tricks and performs with or without treats! You can trust Abel to be calm and content when left out of his kennel for several hours—his longest solo time was seven hours, and he simply rested and kept watch for any "dangerous" Amazon trucks. Abel would love a home without kids or other animals, where he can relax without being disturbed during meals. He’s independent about his space and prefers not to be poked or prodded. When grandkids or visitors are over, he happily hangs out in the bedroom if needed. Truly, Abel is an easygoing guy who’s ready to bring so much love to the right home. He has a few quirks, but don’t we all?   Abel does take an oral medication twice a day to help prevent seizures.    Abel is from an owner surrender. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Amara! Also known as Mama, Amara is a gorgeous and affectionate sweetheart who loves being near her people. She’s happiest by your side, keeping you company as she relaxes on the couch or curls up at your feet. While not a lapdog, she’s full of love, affection, and plenty of kisses to share! Amara thrives in a home where her humans spend lots of time with her and are ready to give her the exercise and mental stimulation she enjoys. This clever girl is a fetch champion (here is video proof) and has even mastered basic commands, proving she’s eager to please and quick to learn. Here is another video of her playing with a ball. She’s made great progress walking politely on a leash, sitting at intersections during walks, and responding well to redirection. Amara also loves running and exploring new sights and smells, making her an ideal companion for an active household. She’s motivated by praise and affection, with a playful, loving energy that makes her a joy to be around. Amara has lived with other dogs before and has shown she can co-exist with proper introductions and patience. She’s currently working on meeting new dogs and is already making strides in her foster home. While she’d love being the center of attention as the only pet, she could potentially live with another dog in the right environment. Amara isn’t a fan of cats and hasn’t yet met children, but her sweet and gentle nature suggests she’d do well with kiddos. Amara does have some separation anxiety and can be vocal if she knows her people are close but out of reach. However, she’s perfectly well-behaved when left to free roam while you’re out and doesn’t engage in any destructive behaviors. With regular exercise, clear boundaries, and lots of love, she’s sure to continue building her confidence and adjusting to new situations. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and active companion, Amara is ready to meet you and show off her endless charm and sweet personality! Amara is from Owner Surrender. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Puppernickel was found stray on a local reservation with a serious leg injury. It was later found he had severe nerve damage & was unable to use his leg at all. Despite all this, he is an absolute dream of a puppy. So loving & happy to see you even if he saw you 5 min ago! I think he has some sort of an abusive history as he does piddle when he is interacting with people. It is getting better with age & good experiences with people. It's just important to know that he needs some understanding as he improves. He loves plushy toys, food & head scratches. He is about 99% potty pad trained & when taken outside, knows to potty. He is getting his leg amputate soon, and I am so excited for him to feel more free to run & play. He is gentle with my children, good with cats/kittens & does well with dogs when in his kennel. He just lets out some warning growls that he doesn't want his special things taken away. I know this will go away the more he is shown consistency & that these new things in life won't be taken away from him.   Puppernickel is from a local reservation. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Dusty, a handsome GSD who is ready to live the pawsome life with YOU!  Dusty has no idea how he landed in MN, but luckily he was befriended by an amazing human and made his way into rescue. It’s clear he was loved in his former life and is desperate for that feeling again.    Dusty is a true snuggler and physical affection is his love language. When his foster human comes home, Dusty can’t wait to lay his head in her lap and would accept head and ear rubs for hours if given the chance. Rumor has it he even loves to spoon in bed if he’s invited in. When he’s not snuggling, he’s showing you his toy skills. There is no toy that he doesn’t like, and he especially loves a good squeaker or stuffed puzzle toy. Dusty is crate trained and can also be trusted for the most part to roam free. He also loves a long car ride and would happily accompany you to the great northwoods to romp in the forest, and would even stay by your side to experience the joy of living on acreage.    As one may assume, Dusty has many of the typical GSD traits such as loyal, wicked smart, curious, protective, the ever-so-common Velcro tendencies. That said, a breed-experienced handler would have no problems as he has an innate desire to please his humans.    Dusty came into rescue as Heartworm positive, which is a preventable disease transmitted by mosquitoes. He just finished treatment and is expected to test negative during his next test. Dusty recently started slow activity in late October, and has shown himself to be a great leash walker, sniffer extraordinaire, and has minimal prey drive. He walks past people nicely and can pass most dogs without big emotions as long as his small bubble is respected. He is still getting used to being in public after being in low activity during treatment. We are learning more and more about him each day!  Dusty is from a local impound.
