Story
Snapshot of Trooper: Size: Large, 75lbs Activity Level: High Noise Level: moderate barking but quiet in the house Good with Dogs: yes Good with Cats: unknown Good with Kids: No Good with Strangers: Skittish and slow introduction but warms up quickly. Potty Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Shedding: Yes Hi my name is Trooper: I think I'm pretty much a pure German Shepard but its tough to tell because nobody knows where I came from. I was found on the streets, severely underweight and in pretty bad shape, but finally got taken into rescue and was given some much-needed love and care. During this whole journey, they told me that I am likely almost 5 years old and although I was skinny at the time, they helped me get back to a normal weight of about 75lbs. Being on the streets made me pretty weary of new people, so I am not a huge fan of strangers and don't like being approached. Because of this, I don't think I would do the best around young kids; however, after you give me some time to check you out, I do warm up quick. I haven't been around many cats, but I do know that I am a fan of playing with the dog friends my family has introduced me to. Aside from some of my skittish behaviors and fear towards new people, I actually am very smart. My foster parents tell me that I am one of the smartest dogs they know and love making me do all these ridiculous things. I know the basic commands like sit, shake, stay, and lay down, but also know a few others like when to place on my mat and can go to my kennel when being told...usually. I also am big fan of play wrestling with my foster parents but am still working on calming myself down when they tell me they're done. I can get a little mouthy (I call them teeth kisses) but have learned that this is a bad trait to have, so I have been working hard to stop doing that as well. I can definitely keep up with an energetic lifestyle and love to play and go on walks. When I am not playing, I don't mind lounging around. I typically like staying near my people and making sure I know what is happening at all times, and definitely love some cuddles and belly scratches. Overall, I know there are some things I need to work on, but I am convinced that if someone can continue to work with me, I can make a great companion. I love being outside so would love a place where I can still explore the yard and have room to run around. I wouldn't mind sharing a house with another pup as long as they can manage playing rough sometimes. While I might not do great in a crazy home with kids and tons of new people, I would love to be someone's buddy for life. Trooper is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for his age. Adoption Fee: $100 + applicable tax (This adoption fee discount is sponsored by Twin Cities Pet Rescue to help Trooper find his well deserved forever home) Trooper is currently on medication for skin allergies. TCPR will send him to his adoptive home with 3 months of allergy meds for free! With his reactivity and anxiety he will need further training and possibly medication to help him. Story
Luna is a 6 to 7-year-old German Shepherd mix, weighing in at 100 pounds of pure love. She's the perfect blend of playful and chill, always ready for a walk or a cozy snuggle session. Luna's favorite pastime? Enjoying her squeaky toy, Poppy—a pop tart-shaped toy that she loves to gently squeak while relaxing.Luna is the epitome of a loyal, gentle, and protective companion. She forms deep bonds with her family, making her the perfect guardian. While she can be a bit wary of strangers, especially in her home, Luna is working with a professional trainer to manage her anxiety around new people. With continued training, she’ll keep growing and learning to be more comfortable with unfamiliar faces.Fully house-trained, Luna knows exactly when it’s time to go outside, signaling by lying down or heading to the back door. She’s also crate-trained, viewing her crate as a safe and relaxing haven.Luna enjoys the company of other dogs and gets along well with her foster family's resident pup. She’s friendly with neighbor dogs too, though her interactions are mainly through the fence. Currently, she lives with two teenage girls and does wonderfully with them. However, because of her cautious nature around strangers, Luna might be best suited to a home without small children. She’s also not compatible with cats.Even though Luna is alert to people outside, she's unbothered by typical house or neighborhood sounds, making her well-suited for homes with shared walls. A fenced yard is a must for Luna—she will need plenty of room to run safely! While she does need calming medication for vet visits, she’s otherwise healthy and ready to be someone’s perfect companion.Luna would thrive in a quieter home where visitors are infrequent. She’s a gentle soul who will give endless love and loyalty to her new family.Luna’s past might be a mystery, but her future is bright. If you’re looking for a devoted, loving companion, Luna could be the perfect fit for your home.If you are interested in Luna, fill out an application using the link below to get the ball rolling!https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Story
Daphne is an adorable 9-month-old German Shepherd mix with a light brown, short coat and boundless energy. Currently weighing 45 pounds, she’s expected to be a medium-sized dog once fully grown (around 26–60 pounds). This playful pup is already house-trained and crate-trained, though she prefers not to spend extended periods in her crate.Daphne has a lively personality and thrives with regular exercise. She loves running, throwing her toys for herself, and spinning in circles when she gets excited—it’s impossible not to smile around her! While she’s shy at first, Daphne warms up quickly and will become your loyal shadow, following you everywhere. She’s still adjusting to new people, dogs, and environments. A confident resident dog in her new home is required to help her build confidence and continue learning. While she’s eager to meet other dogs, she likes to take her time to get comfortable and then she’s ready to play! She hasn’t been introduced to kids or cats, but her high prey drive may make her incompatible with feline friends.Daphne is happiest with an active family who can match her energy level and provide plenty of opportunities to play and explore. A home with a fenced yard is a must to let her stretch her legs safely. While she’s not particularly vocal, she may bark when unsure about something or whine if she misses out on a good squirrel chase! If you’re ready to give this sweet, spirited pup the love and patience she needs to thrive, Daphne will reward you with endless affection and entertainment. Story
This 1-year-old Shepherd mix is equal parts gentle giant and affectionate cuddle bug! At 52 pounds (and growing!), Brownie is a total sweetheart who's ready to lounge by your side, showering you with adoring looks and plenty of kisses. This boy is great with kids and shows no issues around them, making him an excellent addition to a family. He also interacts well with other dogs, barking only once to say hello before calmly moving along. While he hasn’t had experience with cats, his curious and gentle demeanor suggests he may be able to adjust with proper introductions. Brownie has adjusted well to his foster home and is learning more every day. He’s crate-trained and will settle when needed, but he much prefers snuggling on a cozy bed with you as your perfect Netflix buddy. He will need a little supervision while house-training is perfected—he’s great at signaling when he needs to go but might have occasional accidents. Brownie has a big bark and occasional whines, so he is not a match for homes with shared walls (apartments/condos). Despite his large size and deep bark, he’s still figuring out how to handle his growing body, often scratching awkwardly or accidentally bumping into things, which only adds to his goofy charm. Brownie loves a daily walk and a good play session with toys and bones (destruction included!), but he’s happiest when he’s close to his people. He would do best in a house with a fenced yard where he can safely stretch his legs and enjoy the outdoors. If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion who will make your home his whole world, Brownie is ready to meet you! Story
ALL LUCA WANTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS IS A FOREVER LOVING HOME. COME AND MEET HIM AT A MEET AND GREET AT Arbeiter Brewing Company 3038 Minnehaha in in Minneapolis DECEMBER 20, 6:00-8:00 . Luca is just such a rock star. He attended a meet and greet with lots of kids and parents. He couldn't have been more chill. Not only that, when there were no kids around he spent a lot of time lying on his back on a lap and giving kisses. If you like an occasional doggie kiss, Luca might be your guy. Luca and his siblings were born to a German Shepherd mommy (pictured) and daddy was a handsome stranger. He is the only one who looks even a little bit like mommy, but we were curious about just who daddy was so we had DNA testing done. The DNA confirmed mommy is a shepherd, but not all German. Puppy is part White Swiss Shepherd and part Australian Shepherd and is also part Shih Tzu, Pekingese, poodle and Chihuahua, 19 breeds total. Mommy was a family pet who had an unplanned pregnancy. The family surrendered the puppies as they felt they couldn’t find suitable homes for them. We believe Luca will be a mid-sized dog when he is full grown but that is best guess and his adopter should be prepared to love him if he is larger or smaller than predicted. Luca is well fed, happy and health. He is using newspapers in the house. He is occasionally going outside to play and he does get his business done when he is outside, but he has not really begun work on house breaking beyond using newspapers. Puppy loves his outdoor time playing with the other resident pup and foster pups. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Luca has been vet checked, vaccinated and de-wormed. He will need a rabies vaccination at the adopter’s expense in January. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the neuter is in place; we do not ship. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that he be altered at 6 months. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested. Story
Name: Beetle Breeds: German Shepherd/ Husky Mix Age: Young Adult Sex: Male Size: Large Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice! And here appears this handsome boy. Except you don't have to say his name 3 times...he's right there from the get go ready for the next adventure. Beetlejuice is a young German Shepherd/ Husky mix (best guess) who ended up in doggy jail after being found running as a stray and no one coming to claim him. He is excellent with other dogs and loves people. He is a BIG boy and needs some manners about not jumping up and being overzealous with his love so is best suited for a home with older kids and someone willing to put in some training to teach him good manners. Beetle loves to go for walks, loves to play fetch, and is happiest going on any adventure his human wants to take him on. He is housetrained and cratetrained. If you are an active home looking for a smart, energetic buddy, check out this boy! Requirements: Training sign up required. No young kids Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives.
