Story
Name: Beetle Breeds: German Shepherd/ Husky Mix Age: Young Adult Sex: Male Size: Large Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice! And here appears this handsome boy. Except you don't have to say his name 3 times...he's right there from the get go ready for the next adventure. Beetlejuice is a young German Shepherd/ Husky mix (best guess) who ended up in doggy jail after being found running as a stray and no one coming to claim him. He is excellent with other dogs and loves people. He is a BIG boy and needs some manners about not jumping up and being overzealous with his love so is best suited for a home with older kids and someone willing to put in some training to teach him good manners. Beetle loves to go for walks, loves to play fetch, and is happiest going on any adventure his human wants to take him on. He is housetrained and cratetrained. If you are an active home looking for a smart, energetic buddy, check out this boy! Requirements: Training sign up required. No young kids Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives. Story
Name: Mouse Breeds: German Shepherd Mix Age: Puppy Sex: Male Size: Large when fully grown Mouse is a very timid GSD (mix?) puppy who hasn’t had many life experiences and it’s left him unsure of everything—new people, new noises, wearing a collar/leash, etc. He is a shy guy that needs a home who will help bring his confidence out and give him the happy puppyhood he deserved to have. Mouse loves other dogs, especially those that will play with him, and really relies on having a confident dog around to follow to help show him new things are ok. Once he knows you, he is a loyal friend who wants to follow you everywhere, sit in your lap, and bring you all his toys for you to enjoy. Mouse is food motivated which helps his training immensely. The potential for him is there and a confident dog is right under the surface. In a patient, experienced home who will take the time and put in the work he will absolutely flourish! Requirements: Training sign up recommended Adoption Fee: $550 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives. Story
Name: Gibby Breeds: German Shepherd Age: Young Adult Sex: Male Size: ~75 lbs Gibby was found emaciated in a tiny crate covered in his own waste by a maintenance worker who went into an apartment to check on a repair. He came to a local shelter in terrible shape, covered in urine burns, and weighing 45 lbs-nearly 30 lbs underweight. Gibby had zero training, zero manners, and quite honestly zero chance of making it out alive. He was an 8 week old puppy in a year old dog’s body. A tiny puppy jumping up on people doesn’t take them clear to the ground and puppy mouthing someone in play doesn’t leave bruises and tooth marks. From a full grown large breed dog, it does. Gibby didn’t have a mean bone in his body. Scheduled for euthanasia the very next day, our director saw something in him. She saw the potential in him and took a chance. Gibby spent 10 weeks in an extensive board and train. He graduated a whole new dog! He no longer mouths in play and he no longer hits you like a football linebacker when he’s excited. He knows how to mind his manners, he knows basic commands, and he is relaxed, happy, and confident. Gibby cannot be placed in a home with cats or small animals. He loves to play with other large breed dogs. His one issue being worked on in regards to other dogs is that he resource guards high value items and food items. This is easily mitigated with feeding him in his crate and having him in his crate or in a down-stay away from the dinner table when humans are eating. He has never shown any resource guarding with people from even the highest value items. Gibby is housetrained on a schedule and crates well. He gets a bit nervous in the crate for longer periods of time so someone home more often than not or able to let him out midday to break up the workday would be ideal. He is getting more and more comfortable in there with continued training as well. He is so smart, so responsive, and absolutely one of the most fun dogs you’d ever want to meet. We are so glad our director took a risk on this guy…he was worth it 1000x over. Requirements: No cats. Adult-home willing to keep up consistent training. Adoption Fee: $500 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, deworming, and microchip Interested in adopting? Story
Name: Rudolph (Rudy) Breeds: Shepherd/ Lab Mix Age: Young Adult Sex: Male Size: Large Rudolph (Rudy) the red haired puppy may not be leading any sleighs but he will for sure be leading his way right into your heart. He was reported to be found tied up to a street pole and no one claimed him or knew how he got there. Rudy was nervous at first to be on a leash with new people but once he realized the leash wasn’t stopping him from going and cuddling up with someone he beelined for the nearest lap for snuggles. Rudy loves other dogs and is thrilled to play with them. He met a cat in passing and didn’t show any interest in them but has not to our knowledge lived with them. Rudy is a young guy, about 10 months old. He is housetrained on a schedule but relies on being let outside rather than waiting for him to ask. He crates well for the workday and right now overnight as well. He is an awesome adolescent pooch and going to make some home so happy they chose him! Requirements: No special requirements Adoption Fee: $550 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, deworming, and microchip Interested in adopting? Story
ALL LUCA WANTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS IS A FOREVER LOVING HOME. LUCA WILL BE AT A MEET AND GREET SATAURDAY DECEMBER 21 AT PETCO IN ROSEVILLE 2775 NORTH FAIRVIEW 55113 12:30 -2:30. Luca is just such a rock star. He attended a meet and greet with lots of kids and parents. He couldn't have been more chill. Not only that, when there were no kids around he spent a lot of time lying on his back on a lap and giving kisses. If you like an occasional doggie kiss, Luca might be your guy. Luca and his siblings were born to a German Shepherd mommy (pictured) and daddy was a handsome stranger. He is the only one who looks even a little bit like mommy, but we were curious about just who daddy was so we had DNA testing done. The DNA confirmed mommy is a shepherd, but not all German. Puppy is part White Swiss Shepherd and part Australian Shepherd and is also part Shih Tzu, Pekingese, poodle and Chihuahua, 19 breeds total. Mommy was a family pet who had an unplanned pregnancy. The family surrendered the puppies as they felt they couldn’t find suitable homes for them. We believe Luca will be a mid-sized dog when he is full grown but that is best guess and his adopter should be prepared to love him if he is larger or smaller than predicted. Luca is well fed, happy and health. He is using newspapers in the house. He is occasionally going outside to play and he does get his business done when he is outside, but he has not really begun work on house breaking beyond using newspapers. Puppy loves his outdoor time playing with the other resident pup and foster pups. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Luca has been vet checked, vaccinated and de-wormed. He will need a rabies vaccination at the adopter’s expense in January. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the neuter is in place; we do not ship. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that he be altered at 6 months. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested. Story
Luna is a 6 to 7-year-old German Shepherd mix, weighing in at 100 pounds of pure love. She's the perfect blend of playful and chill, always ready for a walk or a cozy snuggle session. Luna's favorite pastime? Enjoying her squeaky toy, Poppy—a pop tart-shaped toy that she loves to gently squeak while relaxing.Luna is the epitome of a loyal, gentle, and protective companion. She forms deep bonds with her family, making her the perfect guardian. While she can be a bit wary of strangers, especially in her home, Luna is working with a professional trainer to manage her anxiety around new people. With continued training, she’ll keep growing and learning to be more comfortable with unfamiliar faces.Fully house-trained, Luna knows exactly when it’s time to go outside, signaling by lying down or heading to the back door. She’s also crate-trained, viewing her crate as a safe and relaxing haven.Luna enjoys the company of other dogs and gets along well with her foster family's resident pup. She’s friendly with neighbor dogs too, though her interactions are mainly through the fence. Currently, she lives with two teenage girls and does wonderfully with them. However, because of her cautious nature around strangers, Luna might be best suited to a home without small children. She’s also not compatible with cats.Even though Luna is alert to people outside, she's unbothered by typical house or neighborhood sounds, making her well-suited for homes with shared walls. A fenced yard is a must for Luna—she will need plenty of room to run safely! While she does need calming medication for vet visits, she’s otherwise healthy and ready to be someone’s perfect companion.Luna would thrive in a quieter home where visitors are infrequent. She’s a gentle soul who will give endless love and loyalty to her new family.Luna’s past might be a mystery, but her future is bright. If you’re looking for a devoted, loving companion, Luna could be the perfect fit for your home.If you are interested in Luna, fill out an application using the link below to get the ball rolling!https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%.Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.
