Story
Meet Tulane! This charming Shepherd mix is the ultimate snuggle buddy, always ready to curl up in your arms and soak up the love. He’s incredibly tolerant, happily letting you carry him around, give him all the hugs, and shower him with affection—Tulane truly thrives on being close to his humans. If you ever need a bit more love in your day you can scoop him up and he'll snuggle in close and show you the kind of love that only a dog can.  While he may take a moment to warm up, once he does, you'll find an affectionate and loyal friend who’s always by your side. Tulane is house-trained and crate-trained, making him an easy fit for your family. Though he enjoys the company of other dogs, his herding instincts can sometimes make him a bit of a pest to other pups, so he would do best as an only dog or with other dogs that are able to be patient with him as he learns his boundaries.  Tulane has a condition called patellar luxation, affecting his kneecap, but with a few lifestyle adjustments, he’s still an active and joyful dog. The vet recommends avoiding long walks on pavement, but this doesn't keep him from living life to the fullest—he’s great at finding ways to entertain himself without putting stress on his knee. If you're looking for a gentle, snuggly, and endlessly loyal companion, Tulane is your perfect match. Bring him home, and let this sweet soul fill your life with warmth and joy! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, rabies vaccination if age appropriate, prepaid microchip, dental, dewormed, Distemper combo vaccines appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm and flea/tick preventative while in rescue. Meet Brodie, a spirited and lovable 1-year-old German Shepherd ready to steal your heart! This handsome boy is not only house-trained and kennel-trained but also a dream to walk on a leash. Brodie's favorite pastime is playing fetch, and his treat-motivated nature makes training a breeze. Like any playful pup, he’s curious about the world and loves to explore with his mouth, but he’s making fantastic progress with the "leave it" command.   Brodie is a social butterfly who thrives on playtime with other dogs and kids, making him a perfect fit for an active, family-oriented home. While he hasn’t met any cats yet, his friendly and eager-to-please demeanor suggests he’d be willing to learn the ropes. This sweet and smart pup is excited to find his forever family and share a lifetime of love, loyalty, and fun. Could it be you?   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, dental, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $550 plus taxWalton was welcomed into our home along with his Sister Anna.  The two are a playful and curious bunch, becoming quickly acclimated to a new environment with kids, dogs and a cat!  They are still unsure of the cat, but show curiosity and with time would do well in a home with other pets. Walton and Anna currently sleep together and sleep through the night (7+ hours) in their crate with only a little whining in the first couple of minutes. They also both are well on their way to being potty trained and signal to go outside to do their business.  Walton loves to play outside with his sister and the cold and snow don't bother him. He is learning to walk on a leash, although he doesn't seem to need it as he is always right by your side heeling. Walton is a sweet boy who loves nothing more than to cuddle up on a warm lap, making him the perfect lap dog. He also shows some submissive characteristics and likes to be held like a baby.  Walton is attentive and food motivated and we think he will do very well with training.  He is already great at recall and working on 'touch' and 'sit'. Walton will make the best companion as he is a very loyal pup.  * Puppies under 5 months should not be left alone for more than 4 hours at a time to help them with potty training and socialization.   If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest.Photo Credit Jay Ravichandran/@jaysviewfinderrVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $300 plus taxHI, my name is Beta (aka Bear or Buddy). I like going for walks, my foster mom says I’m really good on a leash but I can get distracted by woodland creatures and other humans so she’s trying to help me with that. Even though I’m not a puppy, I do like to play sometimes. My favorite is a bouncy ball or when my fosters throw a toy in the air, I love to jump up and grab it. My fosters work from home so I have someone with me all day. I never have accidents in the house, I’m taken outside about every 4 hours for a walk (we don’t have a fenced yard). I like to sleep in bed with my foster mom, and have the run of the house when they’re out. I do not chew on anything that isn’t mine, I don’t eat out of the garbage or tables/counters. I know basic commands like sit, shake and lay down. So my foster mom says I’m really chill most of the time, there are times where I get a bit riled up. I get really anxious around strangers, I’m not sure what to do so I bark because I’m a big dog with a big bark. I’m better with slow introductions to new people. Its actually best if you just ignore me at first, then I will come to you when I’m ready. I also get a bit riled up when I see people outside. I’m just trying to protect my foster family from strangers, but they are working with me on my barking and jumping/scratching on the windows. I do better with positive reinforcement (my favorites are ‘good boy treats’ when I do good with something we’ve been working on). I like that better than yelling, that scares me. Even though it may take me a bit longer to get comfortable in a new house, once I’m comfortable I’ll be your best friend! I love to cuddle and binge watch TV with my fosters. Story
Luci was rescued by a kind soul that found her by the river super skinny. She called us and we picked her up. We believe she is a purebred GSD. She is on the smaller side at just 40lbs so if you love the breed but can't handle a very large dog, Luci would be perfect. She is spayed, UTD on all required vaccines, HW tested negative and microchipped. Typical to the breed, Luci does have a prey drive so no cats or small dogs or other small pets. She loves people and gets along well with a large group of dogs here. Also, Luci is reliably housetrained. If you would like to make this beautiful and sweet girl your new family member, please email omlc7@hotmail.com or dogs4mylife@gmail.com and we will send our info and application. Story
Mindy is precious to us. We adopted her 5 years ago in Michigan, and she has been a part of our family since then. She is a 7 year old German Shepard-Lab mix. She is high energy, fun, and intensely loyal. She loves to fetch, cuddle, and go on long walks. She does not do well with other dogs, but is amazing with people and kids. She will kiss you in the face is you let her, but learns boundaries quickly. She is extremely healthy, with only minor indigestion problems when she eats too much people food. She has calmed down considerably in her adult years and now will nap for 3-4 hours during the day. We are looking to re-home Mindy as we prepare for our second child. As mentioned, Mindy is amazing with kids, but deserves more attention then we are able to give her. She would do amazing in a home with a fenced backyard where she could be taken on multiple walks a day. She loves hard, and thrives when people are firm but loving in return.

Story
Nala is a 7 month old spayed and microchipped GSD mix (I suspect Anatolian shepherd). She can be timid at first but when she warms up she is a spunky, independent, curious girl! She loves playing in the snow and hanging out while chewing a stick. She also loves a good belly rub. Nala and her litter and mother were found abandoned in a field in Texas, severely malnourished. Nala has some intense resource guarding around food & space. Nala needs a house where she is the only dog (or a large farm with space). She is being rehomed as being in a multi dog household has been very stressful for her.

Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    ********* Please apply online to schedule a one-on-one meeting with me - https://underdogrescuemn.com/canine-adoption-application/ DOB: Approximately 5/23/16 Requires another dog in home: Yes, needs another large social dog Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: Unknown weigh: 63 pounds Requires a fenced yard: Yes Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area Hello, my name is Ellen. I am a gorgeous, sweet, and very kind albeit shy adult female German Shepherd. Truth be told, I am afraid of pretty much everything in this enormous world from commotion to loud noises like thunderstorms so a fenced yard is a must. Additionally, I am looking for a VERY special fur-ever family who is lovingly patient and will NEVER give up on me! I have not met any cats or kids, but I am good with other dogs and will need another large dog who will help me feel comfortable and secure! I don’t play much but I’m a smart girl who knows what “go potty” means and I’m potty & leash trained. As for the kennel/crate, foster mom doesn’t put me in that cave because I am an amazingly good girl who simply lays in her bedroom, she can even shut the door if she wants to because I feel safe in there. I am very slowly learning what it’s like to feel safe and loved. In fact, I have become comfortable enough with foster mom that I greet her in the morning by putting my head right next to hers while I patiently await lovingly gentle head scratches! Hint, hint! By the way, I also love butt scratches and ear rubs! Just sayin’! Hee, hee!! Anyway, I really am an incredibly sweet girl who tries SO hard to be brave. All I need now is a calm fur-ever home. Sure, I may not ever be that girl that greets you at the door or gives you kisses but I assure you that I have an enormous heart that is brimming with unconditional love and I long to share with YOU!! All I ask is that you give unconditional love in return and allow me the time, space, and patience I need to become comfortable and learn to trust in my own time! I promise that I’m worth it and in time, I will love you more than all the pebbles of sand on the planet! Love, Ellen *Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Hi there! My name is Sunny, and I’m a 2-year-old Shepard Mix weighing 65 pounds. Despite having some old fractures in my back left leg from being hit by a car, I’m a cheerful and loving girl. I take medication (Galiprant) for pain and inflammation, and I have some arthritis developing in that area so my forever family will need to make sure I stay slim and fit. I absolutely love being around my people and can be a bit of a velcro dog, always wanting to be right by your side. I do have severe separation anxiety, but with the right kind of crate, medications (trazodone, clonidine, and gabapentin), and distractions like toys, talk radio, and treats like Kongs, I've been doing much better. I’m incredibly smart, which means I learn commands and tricks easily, but it also means I can figure out how to open crates, doors, trash cans, and even toilets unless measures are taken to prevent it. Told ya I'm smart! Ha ha! I’m super playful and love toys, especially crinkly and squeaky ones, and I adore chasing balls. Sometimes, I get a bit hyper and playful-aggressive, especially if I’ve been crated for a while or am greeting someone who has been away. I use my mouth a lot when I’m happy and excited, snapping my jaws and mouthing at people. I’m known as the "sweet shark" around my foster home because of it! Normally, my mouthing isn’t a big deal, and I can be redirected, but sometimes I bite a bit hard out of excitement. Because of this, I might not be the best fit for homes with young kids or people who are hesitant around dogs. Also, I have high prey drive, so it would be best if there are no cats, small dogs or little critters in my forever home.  I’m doing great with potty training and am fantastic on a routine, and I do well with a special crate. I broke out of traditional wire and plastic crates, but I sleep in a plastic crate at night without breaking out since I can see my humans. I do require a fenced yard in my forever home. We occasionally go for leash walks, but I prefer the fenced yard.  I know commands like 'Sit,' 'Kennel/Crate,' 'Wait,' 'Go Potty,' and 'Lay Down.' I get along well with dogs of all sizes, though I’ve never lived with another dog. Given my separation anxiety, having another dog might help me, but I’m not sure since I’ve been doing better with my medications and special crate. I’m a sweet, goofy girl who’s been through a lot and deserves all the love. I’m super loyal and loving, and I’ll reciprocate all the affection I receive. I love doing happy dances when I win at playing tug with my toys, and I make my humans laugh every day with my silly smiles and joyful exuberance. I can’t wait to find a family that will recognize what a gem I am. Could you be my forever home? Love, Sunny *Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Your donation will help us buy dog food and pay for medical costs. Visit this link  www.underdogrescuemn.com/donate   to donate.  (Please note: A Paypal account is not necessary to use Paypal. When you get to the Paypal page, just use the link to the left of their login to make your donation via Paypal without an account.) January 14, 2025, 10:26 pm

Story
Gunner is an adorable sable male GSD. Gunner lost his mom suddenly and needed a place to go, so we took him in. Gunner had a knee surgery previously, so he does walk a little funny, but that does not stop him from playing with his jolly balls! Gunner should be the only dog in the home at this point in his life. He is crate trained, neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Experience needed for Gunnar, he’s a great dog, but needs a strong handler. If you are interested in learning more about Gunner, you can apply on our website www.skylarsscholarships.org (the application is listed under the “more” tab).

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $400 plus taxArtie is a beautiful Belgian Shepherd Malinois that needs someone patient to slowly warm up to. He is great with dogs when introduced correctly to and is a typical shepherd that’s vocal in play and likes to slap with his paws! He takes time to warm up to people and enjoys his safe place in a kennel. He has been in a ruffland kennel! He is still slowly putting weight on but is doing great! Arty will require somone who has had previous breed experience If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed. Sometimes the pets appear to be a particular breed(s) in the pictures we receive from our rescue partners and when they arrive we are surprised to see an entirely different breed(s) in person!  If you choose to DNA test your adopted pet, test results may vary from company to company and our breed guess may not be reflected in those results as it is just that, our best guess. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. When you adopt a pet from Midwest Animal Rescue and Services, your adoption fee covers: Microchip and registration, Core Vaccines including Rabies, Distemper and bordetella, age appropriate heartworm testing or FeLV-FIV testing, sterilization, heartworm/flea-tick prevention and deworming while in foster care.  Adoption fees are non-negotiable and can be paid by cashier's check, money order or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //
