Story
Demure. Mindful. Cutesy. Maddie. This big gal has a big heart for her human friends and photos do not do her justice. Just come in and see for yourself! It’s hard to tell what breed mix she has, as she has the extra-thick puff of fur around her neck like a chow, with the coloring and coat (including the back waves!) of a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. She has the round face of a Lab with the ears of a Shepherd. She has the bright amber eyes and the monochromatic look of them with her coat is utterly stunning. If ever a dog deserved a free DNA test, Maddie is your gal. Maddie’s temperament is quite in line with a standard Chessie, as she is focused and affectionate when she has some 1:1 time with the volunteers at MACC. She can have a mind of her own and be stubborn about going and doing what she wants, especially in the shelter environment where dogs don’t get a whole lot of choice about much. She is polite without being over the top.Maddie’s behavior with other dogs within our playgroup program is a 180 of the above. In her playgroup appearances, Maddie was not aggressive with the other dogs but she was very controlling. She did a lot of posturing and height seeking – both of which are antagonistic gestures – and when she would correct another dog for a behavior she didn’t like, her corrections were over the top/too much. Unless her new owner has a lot of dog handling experience – including with dogs who don’t particularly enjoy the company of other dogs – we feel Maddie would do best as the only dog (and pawsibly animal) in the home. Being able to soak up the time, attention, and training abilities of the humans in the household is a scenario where this gal will be set up to shine! Come in and meet this amber eyed beauty!MACC`s walk-in adoption hours are:Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday: 1-5pmThursday: 1-7pmSaturday: 11am-3pm

Story
Hi there! My name is Beni and I'm a big handsome boy! Let me tell you about myself.  I was adopted as a puppy but due to some family problems, with no fault of my own, I was returned to the rescue. My first week or so at my new foster home I was very confused and it was scary. I stayed in my kennel a lot, but I started warming up to my foster mom. We went on walks and I started feeling more comfortable. Then I started to get to know the resident dogs and made friends. Now, I am still nervous around new people but when I get to know you, I'll be your best friend.  I'm a silly boy who likes to play! I run around the backyard, I like to play in the kiddie pool, and even like to stick my head in the water bowl! I do like to play but I love my humans! I want to know where you are so I'll follow you around and I'll jump on the couch or bed to be with you. I wouldn't do well with small children because I'm a bigger guy. I also don't think I'd do well with cats because I want to chase them. I'm a good boy on walks and I ride in the car well! When I see my leash, I get really excited! I also do well in my kennel. When my foster parents leave the house, I go right into my kennel. I even did well at the vet recently.  Are you ready to meet me? I'm ready for my new, forever family! Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Distemper combo vaccines appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm and flea/tick preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $525.00  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 12:47 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee $350 plus taxMeet Pixie, she is being surrendered by her owner, who adopted her a year or so ago, due to lack of time and having human medical things going on.   They were honest in that they didn't do much with her and socializing her outside of the family.  Pixie is a typical shepherd that is looking for:   A leader to help her become the best she can be Someone who won't make her be in charge, she really doesn't like it nor does she know what to do with it. A German Shepherd savvy owner who wants to train her, socialize her,  so awkward when meeting new people She is house trained, well mannered for her family and really wants to be a social butterfly, but she needs focus and simple training to be able to do that.  She is good with other dogs.  Cats are unknown.  Small kids might be a bit too chaotic for her.A note from her surrendering ownerWe adopted Pixie in October of 2022 and we have loved having her in our home.  She is sweet and loving and very loyal to her people.  She is an excellent guard dog and lets us know when anyone is close by.  She loves to play fetch and she loves to run around in the yard.  She doesn’t like sudden movements or loud noises.  She is afraid of brooms, mops or anything that resembles a long stick.  Pixie received one-on-one training through Happy Tailz last summer and she proved to be a very good student.  She understands a lot of words and is extremely smart.  We are sad that our situation has changed and has made it difficult for us to take care of Pixie.  We hope Pixie can find her forever home where she can get all the time and love she deserves. If you love German Shepherds and really want to make a difference in one's life, she is your girl! If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest. It is with deep longing that we wish there was a breed called 'cute' as we believe all of our dogs would fall under this new breed classification! Completion of an Adoption Application via our website www.midwestanimalrescue.org is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is the first step in our adoption process.  *Animals who are not fully vaccinated and altered are not eligible for long distance adoption. We do not accept personal checks. Any issues that arise after adoption are the full responsibility of the adopter after the finalization of adoption. Adoption fees are only part of the expense of owning a pet, so we ask you to consider the costs for the life of the pet before adoption. We recommend pet insurance. //

Story
Meet Tulane! This charming mix of Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherd, and Australian Shepherd is not just a dog; he's a loving companion waiting to enrich your life. Though he may take a moment to warm up, once he does, you’ll discover a truly affectionate friend who is always eager to be by your side. Tulane is house trained, and crate trained, making him an easy addition to your family. While he enjoys the company of other dogs, he can show his herding instincts and annoy other dogs, so he may thrive best as the only pet, where his loyalty can shine even brighter. Tulane has a condition called patellar luxation that affects his kneecap, but with some simple lifestyle adjustments, he remains an active and joyful pup. The vet recommends avoiding long walks, particularly on pavement, but this doesn’t hold him back from enjoying life to the fullest and he's great at finding ways to entertain himself without putting stress on his knee. If you’re looking for a gentle, loving, and loyal companion who will fill your home with warmth and joy, Tulane is the perfect match for you! Embrace the opportunity to welcome this wonderful dog into your life and watch as he transforms your days with his sweet spirit. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, rabies vaccination if age appropriate, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Distemper combo vaccines appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm and flea/tick preventative while in rescue. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. //   Find our applications at www.midwestanimalrescue.orgAdoption Fee: $550 plus taxHi there, I'm Riley, but I have also been called Piper. I'm a young, bubbly pup with a zest for life. I love to explore and discover new things, my curiosity knows no bounds. My energy is infectious, I can turn any dull moment into a fun one. I'm learning how much fun a game of fetch can be, and I love to dig around a pile of puppy toys to find just the right one. I also love to run and play outside, finding sticks and chasing leaves. My friendly nature makes me a great companion. I'm playful, always ready to engage in a game or two. I LOVE to play with the other dogs at my foster home, and tend to leave the cats alone most of the time.   If you're looking for a loyal, loving, and lively friend, look no further. Adopting me means endless days filled with fun, laughter, and unconditional love.  * Puppies under 5 months should not be left alone for more than 4 hours at a time to help them with potty training and socialization.   If you have previously applied with us please email adoptionatmars@gmail.com to reactivate your application with new interest.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  or    *The pet you are viewing is a rescued pet which is most often from an animal control facility and does not come with a pedigree. The breed(s) listed are our best guess and are in no way guaranteed.
