Story
Do you have any tennis balls to play with? Lacy is a lovely 4 year old Shepherd/hound mix who loves people and loves to play ball! This 50 pound lady is a fan of head scratches and wants to be with you all the time. She is crate trained and great in the house. She has a low prey drive, and had previously lived with a cat. She would be very happy to be the only dog in the house as well. The adoption fee for this dog is $425 which includes routine vetting and spay/neuter. 🐾 Adoption Notice 🐾 Meet Max, a sweet and lovable German Shepherd looking for his forever home! Max is 3 years old and adores kids, dogs, and cats. He enjoys going for walks, hiking in nature, cuddling up, and playing with his favorite balls. Max is full of energy and requires an owner who can devote time to his exercise and care needs. As a German Shepherd, Max can be a bit anxious at times and may bark when he's scared or nervous, but don't let that fool you – he's a big sweetheart at heart! Max is seeking an understanding owner who can provide a supportive and patient environment. Max is also deeply bonded with his younger brother Milo, and we are open to rehoming them together for a perfect family match. We are heartbroken to have to rehome Max and Milo, but we want to ensure they find a loving and caring home. If you are ready to welcome this dynamic duo or give Max a loving home, please reach out to us.

Sweet 4yr old Farah is great with kids, cats and dogs. She's a medium/high energy but not crazy bouncing off the walls. A change in living arrangement is forcing her to look for a family to take her in and continue spoiling her. Story
Maui is almost 6 years old, dog friendly, calm, low energy, people pleaser, happy go lucky guy who wants nothing but to be loved. He is playful, up for anything and when excited he will twirl while vocalizing how happy he is :) He LOVES his walks, and is always ready to go. He learned how to go down the stairs and the foster is working with him on going up the stairs. The foster summarizes Maui as the best version of a dog, a dog can be! Sounds complicated, nope, this is a fancy way of saying he’s a really great dog, and a wonderful companion for any age adopter. He will get busy when you’re busy and will settle when nothing is going on! Whoever adopts him will not regret doing so! (Disclaimer he drools and sheds) At some point in his life Maui was struck by a car or a human (not distemper as the shelter thought) and the trauma caused some deficit in his front leg muscle strength. He has a noticeable limp, but take our word for it, it doesn’t slow him down a bit! But we’re not saying he will be our running partner. He was at the shelter for a year and a half before we tagged him for our rescue, that’s a freaking long time to be in a cage. Maui, while at the shelter, was being overlooked because he's not the perfect looking pup people are wanting to adopt, especially with a noticeable limp and some major drooling action. None of it steals his sunshine attitude away or slows him down at all as you can see in his video here https://youtu.be/A89-58ch27I?si=GJfRAE0WBkt_qhjW He didn’t seem to care about the cats in the cat area of the shelter nor on walks https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1BPwFGNhwg/ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1E729BF6gG/ He deserves his forever family and looking for a foster home in the meantime. To foster you must be within 30 miles maximum from zipcode 20906, and be able to bring your foster dog to our vet in Burtonsville or Silver Spring. Adoption radius 60 miles from zipcode 20906. We do not promote any of our dogs as house trained or allergy friendly. Our Application here: https://bit.ly/4d7XoKd

Story
Hi, it’s nice to meet you. I’m Charlie, a 60 lb., 2 year old, GSD x. I don’t remember much of my previous life other than I had a litter of puppies early on. The nice people at the shelter found me and then slowly nursed me back to a healthy weight since I was just skin and bones. However, my past doesn’t define me. This is what my foster mom has to say about me: Charlie is a super sweet girl who prefers spending time with her people! Charlie is very gentle with our almost 2-year-old daughter and would be great for a family with kids or another dog because she enjoys playing. She is a snuggler and gives kisses, knows how to sit, is treat-motivated, takes treats gently, and is housetrained. Charlie has spent time at doggy day care and does really well there. She loves hanging out and playing with her doggy friends. Charlie loves to go on walks and loves hiking. She does chase after squirrels and cats and sometimes barks at other dogs (especially if they start barking first).   Charlie had isolation/separation anxiety when we first got her, but has made wonderful progress and we are now able to leave her at home alone for a couple hours. We expect that once adopted, she will need her people to give her time to adjust to her new home. The change may cause some angst and she may regress, but we have no doubt that once she feels comfortable in her new home, she will regain her confidence and her anxiety will be minimal.  Charlie would do best with someone who is home the majority of the time and has the flexibility and patience to work with her to make her feel safe and comfortable when leaving the house. She can sometimes be skeptical of male visitors to the home, especially those with beards and hats, but generally avoids them and tolerates their presence.  Charlie will make a fabulous furry family member. As long as her forever family gives her unconditional love and support, she will bloom into an even more perfect version of herself!  ##2033441##

Story
Meet Millie – The Comeback Dog Who Sparked a Movement Millie is the dog who set our rescue wheels into motion! She’s not just a survivor; she’s the inspiration behind Second Start Rescue and the spark for a movement none of us saw coming. When Millie was found, she was locked behind a deadbolted gate, with a massive lump on her side, no hair, and looking as pitiful as could be. What we didn’t realize was that she was also critically anemic, just days away from death. At the time, our rescue hadn’t even been formed yet, but the community rallied together to get Millie the urgent veterinary care she needed. Thousands of dollars were raised, and a lifesaving blood transfusion saved her. Her resilience inspired everyone to jump back into rescue, and Second Start Rescue was born! Today, Millie looks like a completely new dog. Her coat has grown in beautifully, her energy is back, and she’s full of life. She’s thriving with her foster family in Delaware but is still working through some lingering health issues, including treatment for a stubborn UTI. Millie is a wonderful girl who gets along with everyone she meets. She’s a symbol of hope and second chances, and now she’s ready for her own.

Story
Delilah is one of those special dogs who has so much to offer but needs the right person to stop and take notice. She may not have the classic look that immediately draws people in, and at around middle age, she sometimes gets overlooked. But Delilah’s story and personality make her truly unforgettable. Rescued after living in the woods of South Texas, Delilah is no stranger to being unnoticed. She was found through a Facebook post where someone had been feeding her but couldn’t take her in due to owning too many dogs. The post described a pack of 10 dogs attacking Delilah, and the pictures showed the toll of neglect she had endured for so long. When we saw her story, we sent someone to get her immediately, and since then, Delilah has been the happiest dog! She was one of the lucky ones to find an amazing foster home in Texas, where she’s had plenty of doggy siblings to play with and began her incredible transformation. Unfortunately, her foster will need surgery soon, and Delilah must move on to the next chapter of her journey. 🌸 NEEDS A FOSTER OR ADOPTER 🌸 Delilah is house-trained, great with dogs, and good with kids. She’s about 90 lbs, curious about cats, and will need to be monitored around them. Her goofy, confident, and affectionate personality makes her a joy to be around. She’s a major talker and a social butterfly, always bringing smiles and laughter wherever she goes. Delilah has come such a long way since her days of living in the elements, fending off other dogs, and being overlooked. Her transformation is stunning—her new coat is predominantly blonde, and her side-eye is absolutely adorable! She loves morning snuggles and is ready to experience her first real Christmas in a loving and supportive home. Can you be the constant in Delilah’s life? She’s looking for someone to open their heart and home to give her the stability and love she deserves. She would be the perfect addition to any family looking for a fur companion to complete their home. Delilah is waiting for her chance to make your life brighter—please consider making her a part of your family!
